Cinder

I was awaiting news from my mistress with Emerald, Mercury and Neo. She must have heard about the portals and probably already has plans in store.

"So when is Salem going to announce this so called mission?" Mercury said which earned him a smack from Emerald.

"Don't make fun of this. If she decides to send us on this mission, then there is a high chance that we can use this to gain an advantage against that old wizard." Emerald stated. 

"At least one of you understands the importance of this." I said while glaring at Mercury. He just huffed and turned his head away...honestly, why does he act like this? I asked myself before we were messaged by my mistress.

"Cinder, I wish to speak to you about those portals that have been going around." Salem said.

"Of course. They lead to an unknown dimension and Ozma...." I started to say before Salem cut me off.

"We already know what my husband plans to do and are preparing to travel into one of these ourselves." Salem said.

"I see.." I said.

"However, I want some eyes and ears on the teams chosen to go into one of those portals. Which is why....I want you and the others to tail them. Make sure not to get them out of your sight and report what goes on." Salem said.

"What's the point of that when you're going to..." Mercury was saying before Emerald hit him on the back of his head.

"I'm sorry for the words that he has said." Emerald stated while forcing Mercury's head down.

"Learn to control your subordinates, Cinder or does your mission will end up as another failure." Salem said before ending the message. Sighing...I wonder if this mission was going to end smoothly. Since there was no telling what or who is on the other side of those portals.

I slowly gathered my things as I started to think about this latest mission. We needed this. After all, wallowing in guilt won't do anyone any good. Especially since we drove the man that I love away from us for eternity. 

"Nora. Are you finished gathering your things?" She heard Ren say behind her. I hoped that this will help the both of them start to move on. Even though...I knew that it would take a long time for each of them to do so. 

I was barely able to go to her classes and preform like before. After all, I drove Jaune away and it ended up costing him his life. It hurt. It hurt knowing that I had a hand in his death. I wasn't the only one who felt this way though given...how his family felt when they learned what happened. 

I could still hear his mother sobbing while blaming herself and her husband for leading his to his death. Shaking my head, I finished and started to lay down...

I wasn't that hungry and I wished that things will get better during this mission. However, I should've known that fate had different plans for us.
