Chapter One, Unexpected Surprises

Chapter One, Unexpected Surprises

After seeing the amount of pain Imogen was in, Carlisle's heart bled for her and for the last two days he spent trying to push through the funding faster, and even donated a significant amount to the Hospital just to do it; and he was happy to say he'd been successful. Taking his lunch break he left the hospital and took the five minute car ride to the police station.
"Dr Cullen, what are you doing here? Is everything alright?" Charlie asked, he'd just come out of his office to go pick Imogen up from her Ballet practice.
"Everything is fine thank you Chief. Could I talk to you for a minute?" Carlisle asked politely.
"I was just about to go pick my daughter Imogen up from her Ballet lesson.." Charlie hesitated.
"It's about Imogen and it won't take long." Carlisle assured.

"Okay." Charlie agreed, quickly texting Imogen that he'd be a little late as he led the way back into his office, holding the door for Carlisle.
"Thank you." Carlisle said, entering the office and sitting in one of the chairs in front of Charlie's desk. "I wanted to let you know personally that the funding for Imogen's AJovy injections have gone through." Carlisle stated. He didn't need Jasper's gift to see the shock, happiness and disbelief that showed and mixed together in Charlie's face.
"How -? What-?" Charlie took a deep breath and tried again. "They said they doubted they'd be able to get them." He said confused.
"Yesterday I went to the school with my children to register them when we bumped into Imogen and her friend. Imogen came over with a bad migraine and nearly fell if my son Jasper hadn't caught her.

We caught wind of the conversation between Imogen and her friend and I couldn't stand to see someone in that much pain. My son Jasper was especially taken with Imogen and was very concerned for her and begged me all yesterday evening to help, which I had been planning to. It took a few arguments but I was able to confirm the funding for her." Carlisle explained to the stunned and thankful father.
"I don't know what to say." Charlie said emotionally. "Thank you. Thank you so much Dr Cullen." Charlie said gratefully, shaking the man's hand.
"You're welcome. I'd also like to run some tests to figure out why Imogen has these fits I saw in her file." Carlisle stated.
"Dr Quinn had pretty much given up trying to find a source or a reason, so if you can help my little girl I'd forever be in your debt."

"Nonsense. I love helping people. It's why I became a doctor and as I said I can't stand seeing someone, especially someone Imogen's age suffer." Carlisle disagreed.
"Thank you again Dr Cullen. I'll make an appointment for her soon but I'll let you settle into town first. I really need to go collect her." Charlie thanked once again, pausing to look at the time and saw he was ten minutes late.
"Of course, please call me Carlisle." Carlisle replied. "See you soon Chief." Carlisle said, taking his leave as they both headed for their cars and parted ways. Charlie, still a little stunned at all the new doctor has done for his daughter already, though he would keep an eye on Jasper. Charlie Swan was nothing if not overprotective of his little sunshine.

Charlie pulled into the car park of Miss Antoinette's Performing Arts Studio to see Imogen just exiting the building in her black floral leotard underneath her coat with her trainers on, her hair in a tight bun and her black Quidditch gym bag over her shoulder. As soon as she spotted her Dad's police car she smiled brightly and waved at him causing Charlie to chuckle and wave back as she ran towards the car, climbing in the front passenger seat.
"Hi Daddy." Imogen greeted, kissing Charlie's cheek.
"Hi Sunshine. How was ballet practice? I'm still always amazed at how much you do and how much energy you have." Charlie mused. "Not only did you just finish ballet practice but now you're going surfing with the kids on the Rez, but you're also on the Cheerleading team now." Charlie mused, shaking his head as he pulled out of the car park and headed to Billy's where Imogen was meeting Paul, Jared, Jacob, Embry, Quil, Leah and Seth.

"I like to read and watch baseball with you too, Dad." Imogen teased, making Charlie laugh. "And ballet was good. I got the lead part in Swan Lake." Imogen replied, squealing slightly as a wide grin appeared on her face
"You did? Well done Sunshine! I am so proud of you! My little ball of Sunshine! I knew you could do it with all the work you've put in." Charlie replied happily, an equally wide grin on his face.
"Thanks Dad. Tickets go on sale soon, I think. I know Billy, Harry, Sue, Tiffany, Peter, Joy and Old Quil want some. I wonder if Uncle Billy will let Jake come surfing today? Jake texted me earlier saying he got grounded for not completing his homework because he worked on the truck." Imogen mused.

"That boy." Charlie chuckled ruefully, shaking his head. "Of course they all want some. They love you Sunshine, you've grown up there with their kids. Oh, before I forget. I was late because Dr Cullen came to see me, he's somehow got you funding for those AJovy injections and wants to look further into why you have those fit episodes." Charlie explained.
"That's great." Imogen muttered, happy no, thrilled about the injections as they could possibly help with the migraines but not thrilled at the idea of more tests.
"I know you don't like having those tests, Sunshine. I don't like you having them but I also don't like you having those episodes more. And, Dr Cullen mentioned that his son, Jasper was pretty taken with you. I'll be keeping my eye on him." Charlie grumbled.
"Dad!!" Imogen protested half-heartedly, as she knew how overprotective her father was.

After a twenty minute drive to the Rez that had been filled with companionable silence where thoughts of earlier years filled the minds of father and daughter. As Charlie was best friends with most if not all of the Council members and Imogen was friends with all of their kids, the Council members had filled Charlie and Imogen in on all of the Legends of the Tribe and Imogen had loved them. Six year old Imogen came up with a rather unique way to announce to her friends when she had arrived; 'the call of the wolf'. It quickly stuck and soon all of the children were using it to announce their presence to their friends. From the moment that Imogen and the kids from the Rez could walk and talk they had been pretty much inseparable and were often up to mischief.

Imogen, Jake, Embry and Quil dubbed themselves as the new Marauders, while others knew them as the Troublesome Foursome. Paul, Imogen and Jared were the Terrible Threesome. Leah and Imogen were the Terror Twins and sweet little Seth often followed Imogen around like a little puppy as Seth idolised her. Imogen didn't mind him following her as she doted on him. It wasn't like the kids got into trouble they were often pulling pranks on each other which is how they earned their names, but if there was one thing the Council members realised is that Imogen is what tied the next generation of their tribe together. She was at the centre and kept them all together where in other times when Imogen was absent they didn't speak to each other. (That being the best case scenario).

Charlie switching off the engine pulled Imogen from her thoughts as a wide smile spread across her face.
"Thanks Dad. I'll see you tonight, be safe at work." Imogen said, leaning over to kiss her father's cheek.
"Have fun but be safe Sunshine, and I always am." Charlie returned, smiling as he watched his youngest daughter climb from the car, her bag over her shoulder and a wide grin on her face as she let out three loud wolf calls. A moment later the front door of the Black house was thrown open and out poured Jacob Black, Embry Call, Quil Ateara, Paul Lahote, Jared Cameron and Seth and Leah Clearwater. All of whom enveloped his daughter in tight hugs and cheered at the news that she got the lead and made the Cheerleading team with Ella.

Nodding to Billy through the windscreen, Charlie pulled out with a smile on his face; so glad that he had put up a fight against Renee all those years ago, and that he still had his Sunshine with him. He knew that she often felt sad and angry over her mother completely ignoring her existence but that just made him and all those who cared for her love her more. But he will never forgive his ex-wife for as long as he lives. He may now despise her for how she's treated Imogen (and hates how Bella treats her sister as she copies her mother) but she gave him his precious Sunshine and nothing and no one can take her away from him. He will make damn sure that Imogen knew how much she was loved; if it was the last thing he did.
