Words That Hurt Like Fire

Summary: Joe is Caspar's bully and hates Caspar, and then there's a fire at school and Caspar ge- READ TO FIND OUT...
WARNINGS: Homophobia.

Caspar's POV:
Joe had always hated me from the start. All through secondary school he would tease me, make fun of me, and sometimes beat me up. We were in collage now, and sadly he goes to my college, and to make things worse he's in my Science and English class.

He still makes my life hell, but recently it's gotten worse. He has gotten his friend Marcus to start bullying me as well, as Marcus is in all my classes. So I would have the tormenting all day long, people said just to ignore it.

And I try to, I really do.
But it still hurts.

But I knew why he did all of this though, it was because in secondary school I came out as gay.

I have no idea what Joe has against homosexuals, but he hates them with a passion. But what I don't get is that that whenever I asked him why he did it, he would never answer.

-

I was stood by my Science classroom, talking to my friend Charlie when out of nowhere Joe appeared in front of me and knocked all of my books out of my hands.

"What the hell mate? Go away." Charlie shouted at him, clenching his fists.

Charlie had always had my back and helped me stand up to Joe, although it never worked, I was still grateful anyways.

Joe glared at Charlie and gave him a sarcastic smile, "I'll go away when I care about this faggots feelings." Joe spit, pointing at me.

Marcus laughed and Joe turned around and high fived him. And then they walked to the other side of the hallway, and stood there until we got let inside. I clenched my teeth together in anger, yet had to hold back tears.

"He's not worth it, mate." Charlie said, running a hand through his hair.

I know he isn't.
But it still hurts.

After five minutes, the teacher finally opened the door and let us in. I breathed a sigh of relief and stepped inside.

3rd Person POV:

Caspar stepped inside the classroom and made his way to his seat at the back of the class.

He took a deep breath as he sat down, Science was always his worst lesson. He had Joe and Marcus to deal with, and literally only one friend in this class.

Which was Charlie, who sat at the other side of the classroom.

"Welcome class, today we will be using Bunsen Burners, so everybody needs to be careful." Mr Howell-Lester said, looking at Joe. "Grab your partners and get to work, and the instructions are on the yellow sheet." Mr Howell-Lester explained, holding up the yellow sheet. "Everybody got it?" He asked, and when he saw that everybody was nodding their heads he allowed them to get to work.

Everybody liked Mr Howell-Lester. His name is Dan, and he has a lovely husband called Phil. He's probably one of the best teachers here and somehow made science a little better.

Charlie was too busy talking to Mr Howell-Lester, so Caspar and Charlie were quite behind. Everybody had their Bunsen burners on, and you could smell the faint smell of gas.

Finally Charlie walked away from Mr Howell-Lester, and Caspar got out of his chair and began to walk over to Charlie as they already knew they would be working together. He smiled at Charlie until he tripped and fell on his back and leg.

He looked up to see what he might of tripped over, and groaned when he saw Joe's laughing face hovering above him. Joe had tripped him up, the whole class was laughing. And Caspar's ankle was throbbing.

"Everybody stop laughing now." Mr Howell-Lester ordered, though he hadn't seen what had happened. "He just fell, it's not a big deal." Mr Howell-Lester shouted.

Caspar knew it wasn't,
But it still hurt.

"Aw Caspar, did you fall?" Joe asked in a mocking tone, still laughing. Caspar couldn't take this anymore, and smirked and grabbed Joe's ankles attempting to make him fall over too.

A gasp left his lips as he fell back onto his bum. The classes laughter got louder and louder, until the laugher began to turn into silence, and then screams.

Joe had knocked over a Bunsen burner onto a wooden table.

Who puts wooden tables in a Science Lab? His stupid school does.

The table went up in huge flames, and the fire bell began to ring.

"EVERYBODY GET OUT NOW!" Mr Howell-Lester screamed.

Everybody ran, covering their mouths and grabbing whatever things of their possessions they could grab.

Caspar couldn't move. His ankle hurt too much, he needed help. And fast.

"Hello?" Caspar called out into the classroom, tears starting to fall down his cheeks. "Help me please!" Caspar shouted. Nobody came, everybody was outside and safe. He was sure he had broken or at least twisted his ankle.

Whatever it was, even if it was just bruised, he couldn't move.

His eyes were stinging from the smoke, and he couldn't see a thing.

He couldn't breathe, either, as the smoke was slowly suffocating him. With all his effort, Caspar attempted to open his eyes. He could make out that the fire was all around the room, and it was definitely blocking his exit.

Caspar attempted to stand up, but started to scream loudly as he felt a burning pain on his leg. It wasn't just his ankle, he leg caught caught in the fire. He used his hands to shuffle him away, and he cradled himself into a corner, silently crying.

He heard fire engines in the background, but then soon everything turned fuzzy, and then soon everything turned black.
----

Everybody was out on the field as fire engines drove into the school. Mr Howell-Lester was doing the register to see if everybody was here.

Most people in the class were hugging each other, smiling how they are alive. But Joe was frowning, he couldn't see Caspar at all.

"Olivia Liddings?" Mr Howell-Lester called out.

"Yes sir." A perky voice came from the back.

"Caspar Lee?" There was silence, until a tiny voice could be heard from the back.

"I last saw him, and he was too late. The flames blocked the exit and Caspar couldn't get out in time. He's still in there." It was Charlie. He was crying into his hands, mumbling about how Caspar's dead.

His breath could've stopped. Joe looked around him, no Caspar. This wasn't some kind of prank, this was real. Joe ran up to Charlie.

"He got out, surely." He said to Charlie, anger flooding his veins for making such a horrible thing up. But it drained when he realised that Caspar wasn't here. "He's probably just got lost in another class." Joe said, trying to convince himself.

Charlie stopped, and then looked Joe in the eyes, "Why would you care? You made his life hell, why would you do that to a person? You shouldn't be crying, you never cared and you never did." Charlie bitterly told Joe.

"I thought being gay was wrong, I'm so sorry." He apologised. "I followed my Grandfather, even though I'm bisexual."

Charlie opened his mouth in shock, and went to say something, but he didn't get to say anything as he was interrupted by screaming that nearly burst their eardrums.

Screaming could be heard from everybody in their class, and people from the other classes too. Firemen came out, the fire was gone, but they were holding a lifeless body in their hands.

"Oh my god." Mr Howell-Lester said, swallowing back a gulp.

Joe couldn't stop himself, he ran to the firemen. And he wasn't prepared for the sight he was about to see.
