We're In Screaming Colour {AU}
Summary: You can see colour only when you meet and kiss your soulmate, but before then, you can only see black and white. Unfortunately, if your soulmate dies or falls out of love with you, you go back to seeing black and white and can never see colour again.
WARNINGS: Sadness I guess.
Colour wasn't a normal thing in the world that Caspar lived in. For some people, the world is only black and white. For some people, it will stay that way forever. But for some people, things are different.
The only way you can see colour is if you had met and kissed your soulmate. From that point onwards, you can see colour. However, there's a catch. If your soulmate dies or falls out of love with you, the world will immediately go back to black and white. If your world goes back to black and white after your soulmate falls out of love with you or dies, you can never see colour again.
Not even if they happen to fall back in love with you. It's completely ruined.
Caspar knew people who's soulmate had died or fallen out of love, and they said that as soon as their lover passed or left them, everything suddenly turned black and white again. It was the worst feeling.
Actually, his mother told him a story once of a woman who cheated on her soulmate. Once he found out, they broke up, and the man fell out of love. He told her he could never love someone who hurt him so much. They were both made to see black and white as a constant reminder.
It was a week later and the man unexpectedly died. It was rumoured that the woman became blind as soon as he died. Mother told him never to do your lover wrong, or one day you'll be gazing into their eyes, the next all you'll see is darkness.
It was almost like the 'Adam and Eve' story, but for love.
But luckily it would never happen to Caspar. That story scared him so much that he promised to himself that as soon as he found his soulmate he would be the best he could be.
He remembers the day when he walked into that corner shop, and he saw the most beautiful person he'd ever led eyes on.
He asked him out on a date, and then at the end they kissed. When they pulled apart and opened their eyes, Caspar remembers looking around and seeing colour.
He remembers thinking that the most beautiful colour he'd seen so far, was Joe's eyes. That was his name. The name of his soulmate, the name of the man he'd love forever.
Joe.
And he remembers Joe smiling and whispering to him, "We're in screaming colour."
-
"Caspar, Caspar!" Joe shouted as he ran into their house. "I got the promotion!" He'd been working hard just so he could get this promotion, and now that he finally got it he couldn't explain the happiness he felt.
Caspar immediately stood up once he heard the news and ran to Joe, "Oh my! That's so exciting, what happened? How?"
"Okay, so I was sat at my desk. My boss wanted to see me, but I thought it was bad news, so I went to hide in the coffee room!" He paused to laugh, making Caspar laugh too. "And then he found me, and he was all like 'don't be here'." He explained.
"'Don't be here?'" Caspar asked, interrupting him. "What does he mean by that?"
Joe looked up to him with a black expression, "I was getting to that before you interrupted me." He told him.
"Sorry," Caspar mumbled quietly. "Carry on."
"So he was like 'don't be here, be at your new job. I'm giving you a promotion, you've been working so hard. I see great things for you, Joe.'" Joe said excitedly, grinning from ear to ear.
Caspar smiled, "When do you start?" He questioned eagerly since he knew how much Joe wanted this promotion. It was such a good promotion, that he had to go to another building with different people.
Joe smiled back, "Tomorrow!"
It was now the next day, and Joe was getting ready for his new job. He was excited, yet nervous.
"Be careful, okay?" Caspar told him. "It's a new job, well, kind of new. It's gonna be scary. Just take a deep breath."
It had been a few hours since Joe left for his new job. Caspar was walking to the shops to get some celebratory things for Joe once he came home to celebrate his promotion.
He was walking into the shop.
Everything happened so fast.
The room started spinning.
He regained his balance but when he looked up...everything was in black and white.
"No," He whispered to himself as immediately he started to cry. "This can't be happening. Please no." He tried blinking a couple times just to see if it was his imagination and something with Joe hadn't happened, but everything stayed the same.
Everything was still in black and white.
Joe had either died or fallen out of love with him. And he didn't know which one was worse.
