Breathing In The Fumes (2)

Summary: PART TWO FOR WORDS THAT HURT LIKE FIRE SO IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THAT, READ IT FIRST OR YOU WILL BE CONFUSED.
WARNINGS: Homophobia.

Caspar now had burn marks all down him, and his clothes were burnt too.

And the worst part was, Caspar wasn't breathing.

Joe sniffled as the ambulance pulled up. He climbed on board, and nobody argued. It wasn't allowed, but they had no time to worry about that now, there was a boy's life at risk.

On the way to the hospital the paramedics were performing lots of different techniques to try and get him to start breathing.

None of them worked.

They told Joe that Caspar would be okay,
But it still hurt.

They pulled up at the hospital and rushed inside, Joe was told to wait behind, but he completely ignored them.

He didn't care that he had just ditched school, or gone against orders from the hospital.

He only cared about Caspar. And he didn't know how to feel about that.

----

Five minutes later, a lady burst through the door. Joe had been ordered to go and wait outside, apparently they said they would arrest him if he didn't. He didn't put up a fight, he was already in enough trouble.

"He's okay," She confirmed with a smile, balancing the papers on her right arm. "He sprained his ankle before hand, so he couldn't walk and couldn't get out. You can see him now though he hasn't woken up yet."

Joe started to walk, and then paused in his tracks. Caspar didn't have a sprained ankle before, so Joe must of sprained his ankle when he tripped him up. Joe could have killed Caspar.

As he stepped into Caspars hospital room, his heart melted at the sight.

Caspar was asleep with the covers pulled up to his nose. He wasn't awake and wasn't doing anything cute, it was just that Caspar looked so beautiful.

----

It had now been four days since the fire. School was cancelled for the last three days, and now he had just finished his first day back. It was busy, and hard because they literally didn't have part of the science block but it was okay overall.

Not many people knew it was Joe who started the fire, or it was Joe that nearly killed Caspar. But then again, not many people cared who did it. Charlie had been begging Joe to tell him all the details of, well, everything.

Joe hesitated at first, but them explained everything.

Also he came to the terms that he liked Caspar in these few days.

No, he didn't bully him because he liked him. He bullied Caspar because he needed people to think that he wasn't gay.

His grandad thought that homosexuality was disgusting, so he tried to make himself believe that, and everybody around him.

Truth is, everybody in the collage didn't mind gay people. They were just boys who liked boys, or girls who liked girls. It didn't matter what was between their legs.

Sure there were a few assholes who didn't approve, but they never did or said anything.

So it was the end of the day, and Joe was on his way to visit Caspar. He had visited him everyday, but Caspar hadn't woken up.

But he just got a call from the hospital saying that Caspar was awake, which Joe couldn't be happier about. He wanted to apologise to Caspar, and he also had built up the courage over these past few days to ask him out. Or at least - be is friend.

Hopefully, Caspar would say yes. But firstly he had to get Caspar to forgive him.

Screw his grandad, Joe deserves to be happy.

And he wanted to make Caspar happy too.

Joe walked into the hospital with a grin on his face, and travelled to the little shop in the corner and bought a big bunch of flowers for Caspar.

He literally ran up the stairs, knowing that the elevator would take too long. After a while, Joe finally got to Caspar's room. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, and entered.

There sat Caspar, with his bright blue eyes shining while playing on his phone. Joe closed the door and Caspar's eyes shot up to see who was there, and a immense amount of fear washed over Caspar when he saw it was Joe, but all his worries were gone when he saw Joe was holding flowers.

"Hello." Joe started, his voice trembling with nerves. Caspar had never seen Joe nervous before and decided to go easy on him.

"Hi." Caspar said bluntly, even though he was going to go easy on him doesn't mean that he can't be rude. Joe had made his life hell, he deserves it!

No he didn't,
But he was still hurt.

Joe sat down on Caspar's bed and handed him the flowers. Caspar blushed, they were daisies, they were his favourite.

He wouldn't let Joe know that, of course.

"Thanks," Caspar mumbled, cracking a fake smile. But Caspar had now had enough, and his bomb exploded. The bomb, being his mouth. "But why are you here? Wouldn't you be celebrating that I nearly died?" Caspar finally snapped, his expression twisting into anger.

That's when Joe lost it.

"I'm sorry okay Caspar?" Joe whimpered, tears forming in his eyes. "I didn't mean to hurt you, I just couldn't stop it I'm sorry. You can do whatever you want to me, you can even hit me if you want." Joe shouted.

Caspar's expressions softened, and he almost forgave him.

Almost.

"I was told that being gay was wrong, so I believed it. I thought my grandad was right, but he was so wrong because I am gay." Joe admitted, and Caspar searched his face for any signs of him lying, but there were none. "I thought it would be funny to trip you up but how was I supposed to know that it would basically nearly kill you?" Joe questioned, tears leaking from his eyes.

"Your words kill me enough." Caspar whispered with a pained expression, and Joe wasn't supposed to hear it, but he did.

"You don't get it, do you?" Joe said wiping his eyes. Caspar scrunched his face up in confusion.

"No I don't get it, but if this some kind of joke I swea-"

"I like you." Joe interrupted, gulping. Caspar's eyes flickered up to Joes eyes, and took a deep breath.

"I don't know why you think it's funny, but it's not. Just leave." Caspar snapped, sighing.

"No," Joe replied. "I'm not leaving because I like you, will you give me a chance to explain?" Joe asked, and Caspar nodded his head.

So Joe explained everything, from his grandad to the fire.

Caspar forgave Joe, but he would have to gain his trust. Joe bought up the loving thing, but Caspar only wanted to be friends

It hurt Joe,
but it was a start.

--

So for months, Joe and Caspar were friends. They had become close, and the whole thing with the bullying was behind them. Of course everybody was suprised, but nobody thought much about it.

Apart from when Mr Howell-Lester and his husband Phil saw them out in town, and Mr Howell-Lester whispered to Caspar "get some" which was quite disturbing and surprising, but Caspar nodded and smirked which was more surprising.

But it was hard for Caspar to move on, like when ever Joe raised his hand Caspar would flinch, or whenever Joe playfully insulted him Caspar would take it seriously.

But everything was okay now.

Joe still liked Caspar though, and Caspar now liked Joe.

And one day, as they were sat on the swings in the park, Joe built up all his courage and leaned over and kissed Caspar.

They felt fireworks, and were both madly in love.

And little did they know, that they would be madly in love forever.

"I love you, Caspar." Joe whispered. And Caspar felt okay. He may be burned, inside and out, but he had found love.

And it felt great.

Words can break people apart to a million pieces, but they can also put them back together. I hope you use your words for good, because the words you'll regret aren't the ones being left unsaid, they are the ones you used to purposely hurt someone.
