Novocaine

Description: Sometimes Jason sings on patrol.

This based off of a headcanon and the fact that the song Novocaine by Fall Out Boy reminds me of Jason.

Red Robin ran across one of the many Gotham rooftops.

He kept his pace steady so that he was just behind the other vigilante he was patrolling with. Batman.

The city lights shone brightly in contrast to the dark sky that always seemed to loom over the city. Tim felt the rush of adrenaline run through him as the wind whipped past his ears. It was enough to drown out the fatigue he had long since gotten used to.

Tim had gotten about two hours of sleep, which seemed to be becoming his average. However, the cool night air mixed with the heavily caffeinated beverage he had drank before patrol seemed to be doing the trick.

He moved in sync with The Dark Night as they launched themselves off of one roof and landed soundlessly onto another. Overall it had been an uneventful patrol. A few thugs here, a drug dealer there, nothing the two vigilantes couldn't handle with ease.

The duo stopped on one of the taller building to survey the area. Red Robin froze as he heard a voice echo through the night. Whoever it belonged to,was singing.

"They took our love and they filled it up. Filled it up with novocaine and now I'm just numb."

Then Tim saw who it was.

It was Jason, currently donning his Red Hood persona. He was moving across the rooftops a ways away.

"Don't mind me, I'm just a son of a gun
So don't stop, don't stop 'till your heart goes numb."

He too appeared to be on his own patrol. The two vigilantes crouched down and watched him.

Jason didn't noticed them, or if he did he didn't reacted in any way. He simply continued singing as he ran across the buildings. Red Robin listened intently trying to place the song. He vaguely remembered hearing it on the radio once. It was called Novocaine.

"I'm just a problem that doesn't wanna be solved, so could you please hold your applause." He sang, staying surprisingly on key.

Despite what most people might think, the brutal vigilante actually had a very nice singing voice. Tim had watched several recorded hours of some of Jason's old patrols. In his former days as Robin, Jason used to sometimes sing on patrol.

"Take this sideshow and all its freaks, and turn it into the silver screen dream." He continued as he ran.

Though the songs he sang then were a lot different than the ones he sang on patrol now. Tim could never figure out if he sang them because he liked them, or to freak out criminals.

"Singing I am your worst, I am your worst nightmare. I am your worst, I am your worst nightmare." His voiced continued to resonate through the air. It was slowly becoming distant.

It was a bit of both Tim supposed.

Red Robin glanced over at the Dark Knight, and saw a small smile ghost across Bruce's face. However, he quickly hid it, seeing as Batman always seemed to attempt to have as much personality as tree.

Batman gestured for Red Robin to follow him, as they soundlessly shadowed the Red Hood.

Bruce had made the excuse that it was simply to make sure Jason didn't need help, or that he wasn't starting unnecessary trouble.

To which Tim had replied with a skeptical, "Sure."

Tim wasn't an idiot, far from it actually. He knew Bruce well enough to know he liked to hear Jason singing, even if it was an obnoxious rock song. It reminded him of the old days, the days before crowbars and Lasuras Pits.

Jason was currently on mostly good terms with the family. Yes, there were still the occasional yelling and fists fights, but honestly at this point that could be considered bat family bonding.

Still they kept out of sight as they followed, in hopes of avoiding confrontation. Jason was still a grouch at times, and Bruce still didn't agree with his methods. Even if he would deny it, Bruce still missed him.

"If you knew, knew what the bluebirds sing at you, You would never sing along. Cast them out 'cause this is our culture. These new flocks are nothing but vultures." Jason continued.

They followed silently, Bruce seeming quite content.

"Because they took our love and they filled it up. Filled it up with novocaine and now I'm just numb."

Several minutes later, the song ended as did the performance. Jason stopped moving, and looked at the city , eyes scanning the streets below as well.

"So, are you guys gonna keep stalking me like couple of creeps, or are you gonna come help me intercept one of Black Mask's weapon shipment?" Jason spoke, nonchalantly.

Tim's eyes widened as he looked over at Batman. He too seemed shocked, well, as shocked as the Dark Knight could appear.

After a moment Tim cracked a smile and glanced over at Batman questioningly. Bruce nodded and they stood from where they had been crouched.

"Why not, I would never miss a chance to see you get your ass kicked." Tim smirked as they stepped out of the shadows.

They could all but see Jason roll his eyes beneath his crimson helmet. Tim couldn't sworn he heard Bruce mutter "language."

"Just be happy I don't kick your scrawny ass, Timbers." Jason countered.

"Just try and keep up." He said almost playfully as he began to walk away.

"You too old man." He called over his shoulder.

He fired his grappling gun and leapt off the edge of the building, Batman and Red Robin close behind.
