CHAPTER 1
'I never gave up on you, even after death I lingered on waiting for the moment when you'd finally die.'
Perhaps it was a bit too early, Jason was quite sure he had woken up a tad earlier than before.
He almost succumbed to the urge to fall back on his soft cushiony pillow but he was quite sure he'd oversleep instantly and he'd never forgive himself if he missed him.
Slowly he removed his bedsheet and crept to the door, he quickly put on his shoes and grabbed his mini-torchlight. He really hoped Aunt Iris was fast asleep and not watching some Telenovela show like last Friday or he'd undoubtedly be unable to sneak away.
That woman had ears as sharp as a meerkat, Jason often referred her as that animal.
He zipped up his black hoodie and took extra precaution not to make noise as he slowly crept down the stairs. He could hear a show playing and his heart sank, Aunt Iris was watching the tv but there was a chance she was asleep or at least close to dozing off.
Jason took a gulp and stepped into the forbidden place after bedtime, he hated it when he was constantly reminded how young and inexperienced he was, nine years wasn't too young in his opinion, one more year and he'd finally be in the double digits.
''Maria, I love you, I can't breathe without you.'' came a deep voice originating from the tv in the living room.
''I love Henry, don't make me choose Charles.'' came a whimpering voice Jason knew to be Maria, the woman he had been hearing of ever since Aunt Iris learned of the show.
''Make your choice Maria, if you choose him I will leave.''
''No, why are you doing this?''
Jason peered his brunet hair from the corner of the wall and inched closer till he was looking at a large peach couch and occupying it was a middle aged woman in a shawl and an empty glass on her left hand. Tissue papers decorated the whole area, Aunt Iris had been crying again, possibly visualizing herself as the beautiful Maria who had men head over heels for her.
Not to say Aunt Iris was ugly but her character would easily make one forget, she was always hot-headed, barking orders here and there, no wonder she wasn't married.
Jason smiled as she snored loudly and he was certain now that she was long gone in her limbo of broken love affairs and dates.
Quickly he made his way out of the house but made sure not to make too much noise as he shut the main door but once he was out he yelped a bit and ran to the shed to fetch his bicycle.
The neighbourhood was quiet at this time, Jason wished it'd stay that way but he knew better than that, come morning the place would be noisy with all forms of sounds and chatter.
He rode his bicycle to the main street and whistled as the cold refreshing breeze passed his face. People always said that he was too smart for his age but as Jason headed out he couldn't help but feel less than smart for attempting what he was going to do.
He looked up at the moon, round and glowing beautifully, the night's own light. Almost as if the moon itself was providing him with support.
He began to paddle faster after glancing at his watch.
It was time.
He rode on and on, looking at the houses lined up till he was only looking at trees on either side of the road, after a while he parked his bike next to a pine tree and ran deep into the woods without hesitation.
He wasn't lost, he knew perfectly where he was headed and after a minute he finally reached his destination. He reached a clearing in the forest, the grass had stopped growing here and in the middle was a white jaded rock glistening under the gaze of the moonlight.
Jason breathed heavily forgetting that he had run half a mile, it always felt different around this time of night. he could hear the rustling of leaves and the owls hooting but he wasn't afraid.
He slowly approached the rock and looking around once more he took out an object from his pocket, it was a small rectangular-like object of the same material as the rock before him. He felt as if the forest itself was looking at him even though he could still hear the hooting of owls and flapping of bats.
There was a hole in the rock and the object Jason held fit perfectly inside the rectangular hole, once he placed it in he smiled eagerly. A suddenly strong gale blew past and the sound of hissing filled the forest as bats flapped furiously away.
For a while nothing happened but then suddenly fire exploded around the boy in waves but he didn't flinch, the fire was bright white with blue at the ends.
''Jason.'' came a rasped voice.
Jason looked around as the fires fully formed a circle around him, the heat from them was odd, it wasn't the feeling of fire but ice. The boy braved it all, even as a bony hand suddenly sprouted from the white rock, even as out of the white flames slithered snakes, pale with green glowing slits.
The snakes, fourteen in all crawled past the boy but not without hissing at him before they converged on the rock. The snakes wrapped themselves around the rock till the rock was barely visible, only the scales of the snakes.
Jason held in his breath as the white fire that had been billowing about due to the fierce wind suddenly followed the same path of the snakes till they ignited the rock and snakes in one huge fiery ball.
The fire burned for a full two minutes before dying down and sitting on the rock was another boy, completely naked and facing the opposite direction as he gazed at the moon.
His skin was white and scaly and his blue hair fell to his waist, his mere presence sent chills down Jason's spine.
Nothing was said as Jason watched the back of this strange boy ''Jason...'' came the rasped voice again ''Is that you?"
Jason nodded slowly "Hi V."
''It's been a while.''
Jason smiled ''Had lots of homework.''
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
CONFUSED?
DON'T WORRY, YOU'LL UNDERSTAND THE PLOT SOON ENOUGH. HAHA* IN EVIL VOICE.
