CHAPTER TWO

ATHENA PLAYED WITH her jacket as she looked at herself in the mirror.

The back-to-School semiformal was about to begin and Athena was still debating whether she should go or not.

Her phone lit up as a message notification appeared.

You better be on your way to the semiformal Athena Scott ;) - Kevin xx.

She groaned checking herself in the mirror once more before exiting her room.

Downstairs her brothers yells and laughs were heard as she emerged into the living room.

Her brothers were playing on the Xbox screaming every time they did something wrong.

"Next time hit the building so it will fall on the zombie Anthony" Athena claimed patting her younger brother shoulder as he got once again angry.

"I told you , big sister knows best" Athena teased as Anthony looked up at her with a glare.

"You're just two years older than me Athena you know that right" Anthony pointed out annoyingly.

Athena said nothing but chuckle watching as they continued to play. "Well I'm heading out brothers , see you two tomorrow"

Athena turned but was stopped by Nathan who jumped over the couch he was sitting on standing in front of her.

"Nate really?! I was finally going to kill that son of bit-"

They ignored their younger brother as Nathan hovered his sister. "And where are you heading too?"

Athena rolled her eyes raising an eyebrow. "Seriously?"

When her brother didn't respond she sighed giving up. "I'm going to the Back-to-School semiformal , happy?"

Nathan nodded "Okay wait let me grab my coat"

Athena's mouth opened shaking her head. "Im going by myself Nate"

"Chill Athena I haven't been to one for at least three years." He joked picking up his coat.

"Nathan , I've been out of this house alone before. Why are you acting all protective out of the sudden?"

Nathan massage his neck shrugging. "What if I just some brother-sister bonding time."

Athena scoffed "Yeah right"

"I'm serious"

"What about Anthony? He can't stay alone , he'll do something and we both know that" Athena said pointing at her brother who was now looking at them standing up.

"I'm fourteen , I can take care of myself." He said with a grin , clearly wanting to be alone in the house.

Nathan shrugged. "I'll just lock him in his room"

"Hey!"

Athena crossed her arms looking at Nathan.

They turned to a sudden noise , they see a broken vase with flower shattered on the floor next to where Anthony was standing.

"It wasn't me" Anthony declared holding his hands up making Nathan sigh holding his face.

Athena gives him the 'I told you so' look.

"Yeah I'm going to stay with him"

LOUD MUSIC FILLS THE ROOM as Athena entered the gym of the school.

She instantly feels like she needed something , she was headed to the drinking section when she stopped.

There was Ms.Grundy holding a drink . Athena clenched her fist holding a breath.

The teacher looks over to see Athena , they hold eye contact before Athena spins walking away to the snack section instead.

There Athena stood next to the sitting section rubbing her face lightly. 'why did I come here?' she thought bitterly.

She spotted Cheryl by the stage so Athena decided to go to her.

"Hey Cheryl"

Cheryl turned to her and once she saw Athena her eyes watered. "Thea"

Athena nodded hugging Cheryl tightly as she holding onto her.

"Oh Thea , I missed you"

Athena smiled sadly wiping Cheryl's eyes. "I'm here now cher"

Cheryl laughed hearing her nickname. "Promise me we're hang out more"

Athena holds out her pinkie "Promise"

The girls giggle talking until Cheryl was called for leaving Athena.

"Hey Thea!" She turned to see Reggie walking towards her with a smirk.

She gave him a sarcastic smile turning back to the dance floor. "I heard there's weed here selling" he said with a joking voice.

Athena looked at him unimpressed making him let out a laugh. "I'm joking , lighten up Athena"

She rolled her eyes just as Reggie let out a chuckle. "Will if you look at that"

Her eyes follow his before her eyes widen in surprise.

There was Archie with Betty and some girl , probably the new girl on each arms of him.

Wow.

Why are they here together?

"Hey thea , um" She looks at him as he grabs her hand. "I'm sorry .... for Jason. I know how much he meant to you"

His smirk was long gone replaced with a real smile , his eyes filled with mugging.

She nodded gulping with a small smile. "Thank you" she whispered , Reggie hugging her softly hearing upon this.

He let's her go as she gave him a last smile walking away.

She walked towards Betty once she saw Archie leaving. "Hey betts!" Athena exclaimed who was pulled in a tight hug.

"Thea!" Betty laughed releasing her looking at with a big smile.

"Don't think I didn't notice who you came with" Athena whispered in her ear teasingly.

Betty laughed shaking her head opening her mouth to say something but the dark haired girl beside her interrupted her.

"Betty who's this?"

"Right sorry , Athena this is Veronica , Veronica this is Athena"

Athena shook Veronica's hand with a smile. "Thank god , I need more friends who aren't total fake bitches"

Athena looked at her raising an eyebrow "Um thanks?"

Veronica laughed and smiled when Archie appeared behind them.

"Hey Athena" he said making her nod but didn't say anything. Betty noticed looking at them confused.

Athena smiled when Kevin entered the room and once he spotted his friends he headed towards them.

"Kevin!" Both Veronica and Athena said making them look at each other.

Veronica looked away saying nothing but smile as Kevin pass them walking to Betty first.

He hugged her whispering something to her , Athena smirked knowing exactly what he said. The same thing she had told her.

He kissed Veronica's cheek as she half hugged him.

Finally he stopped opening his arms as Athena left out a laugh. "Come to daddy"

He ended up walking to Athena hugging her kissing her cheek.

They all talked stopping when they heard one of Betty's favorite songs. She watched with a smile as Archie and Betty walked to the dance floor and started dancing

She knew Betty liked Archie. More like love.

"They're cute aren't they"

She looked at Veronica nodding at her words. "Yeah they are"

Athena glanced at Veronica and saw she was staring at Archie making her scoff silently.

Once she saw Cheryl walking up the stage she turned about to leave.

"Tell Betty I had to leave , I'll see her tomorrow. Bye Kevin" She hugged him heading t as Cheryl's voice fills the room.

"Good evening, friends. Are you all having a good time? "

THE DOOR CLOSED behind Athena as she entered pops.

She sat on a stool smiling when Pops goes to her. "Hey sweetie , you want the usual?"

She nods with a smile. "Please"

He hands her oreo milkshake with extra fudge. Once she digs her pocket to pay pops shakes his head with a laugh. "Its on the house"

Athena tilt her head with a smile. "Only this once since I forgot my money" She said with a half smile , half frown before letting out a laugh.

"You want anything else Jug?"

Her heart stops as she turns to see behind her. There was Jughead sitting with his Laptop .

How did she not see him.

"Not right now thanks pops" His huskily voice replied.

She moves uncomfortably on the stool slipping on her straw.

Moments later Jughead spoke up. "Coming from the Semiformal?"

Athena faced him once more surprised that he was talking to her. She cleared her throat once she saw he was waiting for an answer.

"Um yeah" She played with her fingers feeling weird.

Jughead said nothing but pointed to the sit in front of him mentioning her to sit with him.

She gulped grabbing her drink sitting with him.

Silence filled between them as Athena decided to break it. "What are you writing about?"

"A case" He replied shrugging .

She played with her fingers again feeling nervous and awkward. She haven't talked to Jughead in almost a year.

"Right , um what case?"

He didn't respond closing his Laptop "Athena you don't have to talk to me , you're too nice"

Truth was , she wanted to talk to him , but didn't know what to talk about no more.

She stayed quiet looking at him with determination. "Well I am"

He let out a chuckle sitting back crossing his arms.

She took a moment to check him out , he had grown more. His face seems more matured. He still wore that beanie of his.

And at the seems , he still wrote .

She remember how much he loved writing.

She then realized something , he mostly wrote when something happened in town , he would write a whole project until everything was cleared.

'Was he writing about Jason?'

'No he can't. ' she thought at her thoughts.

She needed to ask. "Um Jughead" He looked at her waiting.

"Are you, um. " She took a sigh "Are you writing about Jason?"

Jughead didn't look surprised and open his mouth to say something but closed his mouth when he looked up.

She also turned to see Archie.

He walked to them with troubled eyes.

He looked confused then looked angry once he saw Athena. "You don't want to even look at me yet you forgive Jughead"

Athena froze for a second. She hasn't forgiven Jughead , what was she going. Why was she even talking to Jughead after everything , acting as if nothing happened.

"Archie , something wrong?" Jughead said interrupting our conversation.

"Yeah , have y'all seen Betty?"

Athena quickly got up "What did you do to her"

Archie looked down "Archie"

"Me and Veronica kissed after she confessed her feeling to me"

Without thinking Athena slapped Archie "You're a dick" She gave Jughead one last glance before leaving pops.

"IM HERE BETTY" Athena said stroking her hair.

"Why Thea? I told him I wanted something more with him and all he did was kiss Veronica."

"Screw him Betts , you deserve better"

Wanting to lighten the mood she added. "Should we make a has tag , #bettydeservesbetter "

Betty let out a laugh wiping her tears. "Thank you Athena for being here with me"

Athena smiled "Anything for you Betty"

It was past midnight so Athena stood up "I should get going or Nathan will come hunt me down"

Betty nodded hugging her. "Thank you"

Once outside she saw Archie standing in front of the gate. She rolled her eyes walking pass him when he tried saying something.

"Oh and Archie , next time you hurt Betty a slap isn't the only thing you'll be getting" She said before walking off to her house.
