CHAPTER FIVE

IT HAS BEEN ONE WEEK since Jason's body was found and all week Athena and Jughead haven't really talked.

Jughead was really busy and worried about The Drive-In closing. Athena wanted to help him but didn't know how.

Walking down the stairs Athena heard her brothers fighting making her roll her eyes.

She coked on her laugh as she saw what was happening in front of her.

Both her brothers were trying to dancing sexy. Key word trying.

They froze as they see Athena. "Um..." Nathan rubs the back of his neck awkwardly.

Athena busts out laughing holding her stomach as both boys blush.

"Why are y'all dancing?" She asked wiping her cheeks that ached from all the laughing.

"Well Nathan was teaching me how to dance" Athena shook her head laughing. "You two are so weird"

They shrugged as Athena rolled her eyes sitting on the couch.

Nathan flops down beside her pulling her closer by placing his arm around her shoulders.

"So little sister Anthony here wants to be a football player for varsity next year" Nathan said looking at her with a smirk as she groaned.

She looks at Anthony pointing at him. "Don't turn like your big brother and become a player if you make the team"

Nathan chuckled as Anthony looked at her with confusion.

Nathan held his hands up "Those days are in the past. I have Elena now"

Athena smiled about to answer but her phone lit up.

Kevin- come to pops now , whole gang - archie are here xx.

Athena got up with a smile. "Well bros I have to go , I'll see you later"

Nathan was to speak but they heard a crash that a "I'm okay" followed from Anthony.

They shook their heads laughing as Nathan went to help his brother.

AT POPS ATHENA entered looking for her friends. When she spotted them she headed over to them.

She gulped as she saw Veronica sitting by Jughead but smiled anyways.

"There she is" Betty spoke up once she saw Athena walking towards them.

Veronica shifted sightly in her seat as Athena looked at shortly before looking at Jughead.

She looked away when they make eye contact. "Hey guys" She replies smiling.

They greet her as she stood. "Come sit" Kevin said getting up. "Oh no its okay , I'll stand"

"Nonsense here take my place" Jughead said getting up. Athena watched as he sat up on top of the seat.

Athena laughed lightly looking at Veronica who got up letting Athena sit where Jughead was sitting.

She felt his legs lightly against hers as he lend over beside her.

" The Drive-In closing is just one more nail in the coffin that is Riverdale No, forget Riverdale, in the coffin of the American dream." Jughead said continuing the original conversation that was going on before Athena got there.

"As the godfather of indie cinema, Quentin Tarantino, likes to say"

"Please, God, no more Quentin Tarantino references." Kevin interrupted Jughead.

" What? I'm pissed." Jughead explained making Athena let out a small smile.

" And not just about losing my job. The Twilight Drive-In should mean something to us. People should be trying to save it." Jughead continued.

" In this age of Netflix and VOD, do people really want to watch a movie in a car? I mean, who even goes there? People who-" Athena zoned out as Veronica added to the conversation.

Athena stayed quiet as she thought back to the memories she had of the drive-in.

She remembered once when he was younger , about 6 she had watched a horror movie with Jughead and she had screamed "Bloody Hell" so loud that teased her for weeks about it.

Athena was in lala land when Kevin waved a arm in front of her. "Huh?" She asked confused.

She heard Jughead release a chuckle but no one answered her question.

" Here you go, kids." They look up to see Veronica's mom , Mrs. Lodge handing them some checks

" Thanks, Mom." Veronica answered with a smile as they rest thank her as well.

" Do they? Be sure to put all that cash in the register. You are a Lodge, after all, and Lodges are known to have sticky fingers. " Veronica got up walking over to her mom who was at Cheryl's table.

"Cheryl-" Veronica warned but her mother interrupted her.

"Honey, I got this." She turned to Cheryl . " Cheryl, I went to school with your mother. She didn't know the difference between having money and having class, either."

Veronica returned with a smile to he table.

The door bell rang catching Kevin's attention. Archie and his dad entered along Mrs. Grundy.

Athena held in a gasp as Kevin spoke up.

"Now, that's an odd combo of people."

Betty got up not looking away from Archie. "I'll be right back"

"No, Betty. " Jughead tried saying but Betty ignored.

" No. Don't Wait, what's happening?" Kevin asked looking at Jughead but he ignored him.

They watched as Betty and Archie exited pops making Veronica speak to Jughead.

"What's happening out there? Do we know? Is it about me?"

Jughead wasn't paying attention at first but then caught on. "Ihave a strong inkling, and no. Also, I'd let it go."

Veronica smiled getting up. " Yes, but you're you, and I'm me. You do you, girl, I'll be back."

" What was it like before she got here? I honestly cannot remember." Kevin asked.

Athena rolled her eyes scooting over so Jughead could sit down. Once he did she smiled at him.

They watched as they what seemed fighting.

Kevin tried asking what was happening but kept his eyes on them.

They watched as Betty got in her mothers car leaving Veronica and Archie alone.

Kevin snaps his finger making Jughead and Athena look at him.

"Do you two want to go to the Drive In movie tomorrow?"

Athena nodded with a smile as Jughead said 'can't'

They look at Jughead who shrugs. "I don't want to go knowing that'll be the last time I go"

Athena nodded understanding but felt disappointed.

"Well I guess I'll see yall tomorrow?" Athena said getting up.

The boys nodded as she got up leaving pops.

ATHENA FROWNED AS ARCHIE sat next to her with a loud sigh.

"What's wrong Archie?" She asked as he faced her. "Betty and Veronica know about Grundy"

Athena nodded with a small smile. "Yeah I figured since she kept asking me questions about y'all two this morning"

He let out a other groaned looking at Athena. "I feel like she's going to do something , if you know anything you would tell me right?"

Athena nodded with a smile. "Of course I would Archie , but if we're being honest here Betty would never do anything to hurt you. "

Archie nodded rubbing his face. "Jughead told me the same thing" Athena's heart fluttered at the mentions of Jughead's name.

"I'm with you Archie okay?"

He smiled putting his hands on top of hers. "Thank you Athena"

Athena redirected her eyes frowning
when she saw Betty and Veronica storming over to where her and Archie were talking.

"Talking about Betty , here she comes"

Archie stood turning around as Betty shoved a paper to Archie.

"Jennifer Gibson"? Who the hell is Jennifer Gibson?" Archie asked as he read the paper."

" That's not the only thing." Betty added.

" Oh, God. Please don't tell me you're still on this crazy witch hunt." Archie asked clearly annoyed.

" It's not a witch hunt, and it's not crazy. We were just in Grundy's car-"

" What? You were in her car?" Archie interrupted Betty.

"Yeah, and thank God we were." Veronica said.

"We found a gun."

"What?" Athena was shocked as she stayed quiet.

" And an ID with the name Jennifer Gibson. This is proof Ms. Grundy is not who she says she is. Then who is she? Obviously some sketch-queen named Jennifer Gibson. "

Betty looked at Archie with worrisome. " Archie, what if she had something to do with Jason's murder? " When Archie scoffed she continued to explain.

" She taught him, she made you lie about him, we know she was at the river, she has a gun. So does Dilton Doiley, but you never thought he killed Jason."

She took a second to continued. " Open your eyes, Archie. Jason was her student last year. Everything about her is a huge, boldfaced question mark."

Archie had enough and spoke. " Okay, whatever her name is, she's not a killer."

" You didn't ask her, did you? About her name? And why there's no record of her before last year?" Betty asked seriously.

Archie sighed making Athena decided it was time for her to leave.

She walked away from rubbing Archie's shoulder and giving a smile to Veronica and Betty.

She was walking home when she saw Archie's dads construction company. She smiled lightly deciding to go visit him .

She haven't talked to him in a while Fred had been a father to her since she grew up without a dad.

She would go to Archie's house a lot with Jughead growing up , also he went to high school with her parents.

She opened the door to the trailer "Surprise"

Fred looked surprised greeting her. "Hey Athena! I haven't seen you in a while. Come in"

Athena smiled as he pulled her into a hug. "What has you here?"

Athena shrugged sitting on one of his work tables. "I just wanted to come by and see have you've been"

Fred chuckled sitting in his chair. "I've been good , how about you? How's sophomore year going?"

She sighed with a half smile "Well its okay I guess"

"How come you haven't been around to the house lately?" He asked

"Well I'll be honest , I was mad at Archie for a while but now I promise that I'll come around more often" She promised.

He nodded agreeing. He open his mouth to say something but Jughead entered the trailer looking angry.

He ignored Athena who was standing on her feet wondering why Jughead was there.

"Mr. Andrews I need to speak with you"

Fred nodded slowly as Athena moved so Jughead was with Fred.

"Why are you destroying the drive-in?" Jughead asked straight away.

"I can't say anything about the subject Jug" Mr. Andrews replied.

"Why not" Jughead asked. He continued on speaking to Mr. Andrews.

"Mayor McCoy says you won the contract to tear down the drive-in."

" I did." Mr. Andrews confirmed.

Look, I'm sorry, Jughead. I know how much you love the Twilight, and so do I-"

Mr. Andrews tried to speak but Jughead interrupted.

" Mr. Andrews, just give me one week to track down the person who bought the land, and convince them not to demolish a holy house of cinema." He tried convening him but Mr. Andrews shook his head.

" It's a big contract for me, Jug, and for my guys." Andrews said sadly.

"Whatever they build in the place of the drive-in could mean more jobs." Mr. Andrew added.

"Yeah, in what? Some hypothetical future? You put one Jones out of work, why don't you put out another, huh?" Jughead replied sarcastically.

" Jug, your dad was taking materials from one of our job sites had to let him go." Andrews answered.

" Right. You did what you had to do, like you're doing here now." Jughead replied before exiting the trailer.

" Later Jug." Mr. Andrews said as Jughead slammed the door.

Athena turned to Mr. Andrews embarrassed to have watched the whole scene. "Sorry but I have to go"

He shook his head with a light smile. "Everything's alright sweetie it was great talking to you again, now go after him"

Athena smiled at him before leaving the trailer as well.

"Jughead!" She called out to him when she saw him ahead of her.

"Juggie!" She called again when he ignored her.

He turned away angrily responding to her. "What the fuck do you want Athena?"

She flinched stepping back. "I-i"

He rolled his eyes walking away again. "Just leave me alone"

Athena stared after Jughead who disappeared into the darkness.
