The Why

Professor Potter lead Janna over the sloping green of the school, he had his wand lit at the tip to show what was ahead of them although Janna could see just fine without the light "Janna, I've been meaning to give you something since last week" Potter pulled out a folded parchment, the yellowing material was a bit worn to becoming soft in folded areas, obviously well used "this is the Marauder's Map it was created by my father, Sirius, Lupin and Peter Pettigrew"

Professor Potter opened the blank parchment "I don't see a map at all. Respectively, I think you took the wrong parchment, sir" Potter snickered while pulling out his wand "You think so?"" Tapping the page he said "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good" the two of them stopped walking as the tip of the wand had ink marks swirling from under it on the page where writing began to occur, two dots appeared one labelled Julianna S. Black and the other was labelled Harry J. Potter.

"What on earth" Janna murmured, watching  the Whomping Willow appear and then the front doors of castle carrying on beyond the Great Hall "how did they do this? How are our names here," Janna then moved her eyes to the folds and dog ears "this thing must be ancient"

"They put the homoculus charm on it, it's a pretty good one too, you can see everyone, no matter what they are using to hide with" Potter watched Janna stare at the map "just watch out for people on it, make sure James doesn't get this, he tried to take it from my desk once; do not show this to your friends, I wouldn't trust them with this at the moment"

"Thank you, sir. You know... I feel odd, I never really thought... I would find more family than I had two months ago" Janna smiled, looking up at Potter who was smiling back at her, but he noted the sun was disappearing "We better get moving, the moon's rising in a few minutes" Harry brought his wand back to the parchment "when you need to hide the map you just say Mischief Managed"

Janna nodded, memorising the passwords, Potter handed her the folded Map "just be careful with it, use it well, the passages will help you get to classes quicker" Janna put the parchment in her pocket "yes sir, can I walk to the tree by myself now? I think I'll be fine" Mr Potter nodded, allowing Janna to move up to the Whomping Willow a few feet away "see you tomorrow morning" Janna began walking away  "Good night, Janna" The Professor watched the young girl move towards the tree pick up a stone and chuck it at the knot, she hit the knot on the first try, she gratified herself by giggling happily.

In the Shrieking Shack Ash woke up, the ferret hopped onto the  pillow on the old four poster bed, as Janna shook off her robes and wrapped herself in a blanket she wondered if McGonagall was right to say that Janna shouldn't  bring back Mr Winslow.  Maybe being without him would be better for Janna, if she could maybe live with with someone who had a forest to run in... Maybe she could live in the Shrieking Shack, the insulation was a problem but Janna could deal with that; who would make the Wolfsbane, though—she would have to go without it on the full moon—Janna felt her spine shiver she wrapped her arms around herself wanting to forget the pain she felt when she was younger when she didn't have Wolfsbane, how painful the shift was... The way her mind would slip away, waking up the next morning covered in knotted ropes and torn skin.

Mr Winslow would make it better... Mrs Winslow didn't deserve him, Mrs Winslow just abandoned me Janna felt a pit in her stomach fill with fire, she should choose what happened to her, she can trust the boys, nobody can tell her what to do! She could bring Mr Winslow back, she could find Snuffles, even if he didn't want to be found, an anger boiled in her stomach as the sky turned lilac, she felt angry at everyone, why didn't they care for her when she was younger, why didn't they do more?

"Why--why-why-why-why?" Janna muttered as she stared at the sky, Snuffles lifted his head, he was watching from the portrait on the bedside table (where he had heard of Janna's conversation in one of the portraits in McGonagall's classroom nearby) "WHY!" Janna shrieked causing a leg at the end of the bed to SNAP the bed groaned and leaned onto its broken leg, sloping down slightly on the broken leg. Ash screeched like a disturbed barn owl, his head had shot up to stare at Janna who had her hands covering her face as her body shivered.

Sirius wanted to leap out the portrait, through the glass and comfort Janna, he wanted to get the plan into action now but he had to be patient. Much of which he didn't have. On the green shiny couch he laid on was bathed in moonlight, he looked at Janna to see her transformation, she closed her eyes and let the shift of her body happen, her hands curled, her teeth elongated, to make her mouth more accustom to the feeling of the teeth again she snapped her jaws then licked her gums.

The wolf sat up from the blanket, letting the cover fall off her shoulders to show her black fur which was thicker than last time, small thick hairs still indicated her as a young wolf, she stretched her head sinking down as her hips rose up with her stubby tail swishing, she pawed the floor as she stretched back up again. The wolf growled at the sky where the moon hung in a mottled group of clouds, she suddenly moved downstairs.

After jumping off the green couch Snuffles appeared in a wonky portrait with a lopsided lamp on a writing desk, the wolf stomping down to the fireplace her hackles raised before lunging at a pillow, her teeth were bared while her claws ripped at the material which gave way and let many feathers fly around, the wolf shook her head with the pillow in her mouth, making noises of irritation. The wolf moved onto a dilapidated piano, she grabbed the one leg under the keys and pulled, CRASH! the piano fell, ebony and ivory flew into the air while a vile din of mixed keys echoed through the house causing the wolf to jump back in fright.

Snuffles watched as the wolf chewed on the wooden leg for a while, her paws wrapped around the wood as she tilted her head to gnaw at the wood with her teeth, her green amber eyes were shining in the darkness as she moved, her teeth made vicious holes in the wood showing the brown wood under the black flaking paint. The wolf soon got tired of chewing on a stick so she nudged a gap in the wall, she wrapped her jaw around the wooden panel and pulled, her back arching under her and using her long legs to pull, her claws dug into the wooden floorboards, dust erupted from the wall as she yanked the plank.

KENK! The wolf tumbled back as the wooden plank sway on a single nail, she sat up and moved to the plank, using her short snout to move the plank to the one side, outside was over looking the Hogsmeade village below, there was barbed wire and trinkets tinkling in a sharp cold breathe which caused the wolf to let her coat puff to keep her warm. Her head came out first, smelling the frosty air, smelling humans down below but she didn't want to eat humans, she wanted to find a rabbit or a squirrel in the woods. Slowly her shoulders came out one at a time, first her left paw felt the dewy grass under her paw then her other.

Suddenly a glowing creature emerged from the tree line, the wolf backed away feeling threatened by the new creature, the bird swooped down at the black wolf who desperately tried to push herself back into the house, her claws digging into the ground, she bared her teeth and snarling, snapping at times while the peacock tailed bird came swooping down even faster, the bird was one she had seen before on the Knight Bus when Mister Mustel accidentally let Ash free.

Finally as the bird was a few feet from dropping onto the black wolf she pulled her one arm in and swung her head in with her other shoulder which got caught on the loose nail on the floorboards she had loosened. The wolf growled at the gap as the plank swung over the passage out, the glow disappeared leaving the wolf to inspect her wounds, her neck had been stretched as she pulled her head in, on the other side she had a line of raw muscle and blood on her shoulder. The wolf refrained from licking her wound, knowing it would get infected and not heal too well. Eventually the wolf settled on the sofa, where the pillow was that was ripped by her in her anguish and madness, the wolf settled her head on the arm of the chair, her front kegs curled up to her chest, her heartbeat was quick and unsteady, her back legs hung off the couch as she began to succumb to sleep, letting her eyes flutter close.
