The Frosty Air of Leana Gasto

¤ ¤ ¤

The three reached the castle, Janna walked on her own as Albus attempted to shoo Goldfeather away but the massive golden bird followed them, rubbing his face into Janna's hip and hand. As they passed through the Great Hall the two students got strange looks from the few students. At the Slytherin table five fourth years eyed Albus as he sat with Janna at the Gryffindor table, Janna saw a few Hufflepuffs attempt to feed Goldfeather a morsel or two while three Ravenclaws stared at Janna suspiciously, specifically an older girl with a head of frizzy hair and sun kissed skin, the girl's true blue eyes reminded Janna of Mrs. Winslow.

"Do you think they're staring at us because of me being a Potter and you being a Black?" Albus asked as he leaned to Janna as they watched the Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs opposite their table, Janna nodded feeling Goldfeather's head brush her knees as he settled at their feet under the table.

"Yeah, it must be very strange seeing a Black as a Gryffindor and a Potter as a Slytherin interacting with one another" Janna murmured as she picked up a few pieces of bacon and toast.

The breakfast was rather silent, Goldfeather would show his face on Janna's lap chirping at her and clicking his beak, she would give him a strip of bacon or a cheese griller after which he would disappear. Albus and Janna asked each other questions, like how school was before Hogwarts or discuss how they passed time in winter, Goldfeather left after they finished, clicking his beak as they patted his head before he had left. The giant bird hobbled out the Great Hall happily purring to himself as his nails clicked on the flagstones.

Sadly a Gryffindor Prefect came to Janna, he put a hand on her shoulder telling her to go to Professor Potter's office; afterwards he sneered at Albus darkly telling him Slytherins didn't belong with Gryffindors. "That isn't a nice thing to say" Janna muttered at the prefect who shot a glance at her from his glare at Albus "No, it's fine Janna," Albus stood up leaving Janna alone "I'm used to this"

Janna felt horrible when walking around a bend of a corridor to the Defence Against the Dark Arts  classroom, she couldn't let go of the thought of Albus always being bullied and made fun of; maybe they were more similar in that sense, always outcasts because of what they were. A rush of warm blood shot into her stomach, she wondered if he would understand if she told him... she couldn't keep this from him.

"Julianna Black, right?" Inquired a frosty voice from behind Janna, she stopped to look over her shoulder to see the Ravenclaw who stared at her maliciously with her lapis  blue eyes.

"Yes" Janna responded wary of the student who, she subconsciously shrugged her shoulders to lift her collar, move her scarf over her neck and let her sleeves cover her thumbs.

Suddenly the student took Janna by the shoulders and pushed her into a short corridor where the taller student held her forearm over Janna's collarbone "I hope you don't cause any more trouble, Black"

Janna attempted to shift her feet to get the heavier girl's weight off her chest "who's talking?"

"I am Leana Gasto, and I know what your agenda is, therefore I don't trust you" Leana hissed, her voice thick with disgust "your family wiped out half of mine! I don't care if Sirius Black was your father you are still dark like your family"

"He isn't my father," Janna felt Leana lean onto her neck with more vigour "and I was never raised by my family so I can't be like them—"

"Really? Then what are these?" Leana pulled Janna's left sleeve to her elbow, baring pink scars on pale skin "your skin never recovered... Dark Magic"

Pulling back her arm Janna, with considerable force, elbowed Leana's ribs causing the taller girl to lean over her stomach and hold her ribs, Janna ran out the corridor feeling colder than ever, Leana must have been giving off her own frosty air. Janna skidded to the next corridor to the classroom, she felt like running away into the forest to hide until the full moon to run further—

No, I need to rescue Mr. Winslow Janna told herself as she stopped in the middle of the corridor, her legs were shaking still effected by the Boggart. The door to her far right opened, out popped Potter's head, Janna was breathing heavily as she watched him "I'm here"

"Come inside," Potter moved to one side so Janna could stumble in "would you like a cup of tea?" Janna nodded, her mouth was surprisingly dry since she felt nervous, her limbs were trembling as they ached with blood "are you alright, Janna? You look like you were chased by somebody"

Janna pressed her hands together and pursed her lips, stopping between a front desk and the teacher's desk "Leana, a Ravenclaw... She just shoved me into a corridor and told me she didn't trust me because I was a Black, as if Sirius Black was my father, she even pulled down my sleeve and said they were there because of dark magic"

Potter nodded as he climbed up the staircase to his office "Sirius isn't your father, though, which means Leana didn't know what she was talking about" Potter stopped to look at Janna from the landing.

"But she knew where my scars were... And she knew which arm had the least," Janna came to the first step of the staircase, putting her hand on the stone railing to help her up the steps "I don't think she had to stomach to see my other arm"

Potter spoke from inside his office "Is your other arm that bad?"

"It's not bad, the scars are terrible." Janna leaned on the frame of the door, her right arm itched "I remember the healer at St. Mungo's having to ask his assistant to cover my arm in a charm to hide the scars"

"Why don't you use the charm next time? Maybe prove Leana wrong" Potter smirked as he came to his desk "that does quite a lot of damage to a Ravenclaw"

"I prefer to only use it during summer, but even then the scars take energy to cover, I don't usually have the power to do something as complicated as that charm in winter" Janna dropped herself into a squishy armchair opposite Potter's desk where a kettle was boiling on a turquoise tile.

"Who taught you this spell?" Potter asked as he brought two mismatched cups, a greenish grey cup and a white cup with luminous orange paisley designs.

Janna leaned her cheek on her fist as her elbow rested on the arm of the chair "Mr. Winslow". Potter stopped at his desk, carefully placing the cups, his eyes flickering under his glass lenses.
