Ripped to shreds

¤ ¤ ¤

The full moon was a couple of nights later, the night before she had gone to Slughorn to drink the Wolfsbane to ease her pain from the full moon, Janna had to excuse herself from the boys, who were attempting to figure out how to get the Marauder's Map without being caught by Professor Potter again or using the invisibility cloak, to go to the extra lesson with McGonagall, Janna pursed her lips while she went down the steps she practised the wand muttering Immobulus under her breath.

The corridors were lit with the dimming light of the sun, there were about four hours before the moon would rise so Janna had enough time to walk to McGonagall's classroom with her limping leg, she had to stop a few times to regain feeling in her knee,  rubbing the knee cap to make sure the bone hadn't moved. Janna pushed through the door of McGonagall's classroom, the Professor was perched on the desk as a tabby cat, she purred as Janna entered while her tail swished at her paws. The cat's chin and chest was a bit flea bitten with white hairs, her whiskers were a silvery white; when she stretched she was slow and careful.

"Good evening, Professor" Janna said to the cat who looked over her shoulder at Janna as the young girl sat on the second chair at the desk, the cat leapt off the table sprouting into a human again, McGonagall came around Janna who gawked at the smooth transformation "that was quite graceful, ma'am"

"Thank you, Miss Black, I enjoy letting students give their opinion when I sit on my desk as a cat, I use the reactions of the students as a good judge of character" McGonagall sat down by Janna in her own desk chair "I forgot to thank you, Miss Black, when you lifted me onto the wall of the Winslow residence, I had misjudged my landing"

Janna thought about the tabby cat "You're welcome ma'am," Janna watched as McGonagall turned the pages of the book they were learning from the previous month "I think cats don't like me all that much. Although I did accidentally cause a cat to shed all its fur and once I pulled one into the boiler room on a full moon to play with when I was small" Janna smiled stupidly as she leaned to the textbook, McGonagall looked at Janna with raised eyebrows, imagining a cat racing around the room with a puppy-like werewolf cub running after it "I guess I was lonely. But at least I have Ash now"

"Ash? Your ferret? Did he come with you last time?" McGonagall asked stopping her page turning, Janna nodded "he's in my bag, sleeping, I think that is all he does but at least he doesn't mind me as a wolf"

As the lesson carried on, McGonagall taught Janna a new spell, Episkey, this was a spell that could heal small wounds like a broken lip or a scuffed knee, McGonagall decided it would be useful for Janna incase the young girl hurt herself in the old Shack. Janna thought about the Resurrection stone, maybe McGonagall knew of it since the Professor was at Hogwarts during Dumbledore's Headmaster years.

"Professor..." Janna said as McGonagall brought out another book on the theory of Episkey "I... I want to ask you about something I read about in the History of Magic textbook called the Resurrection Stone"

McGonagall stopped as she let the book hover over the desk, her hands shook before letting the book drop to the table "The Deathly Hallow..." McGonagall whispered, her voice thick "when did you learn this? The Stone is not in the curriculum," McGonagall looked at Janna with a stern face "where did you hear of that, other than the Tale of The Three Brothers"

Janna pursed her lips, she curled her fingers into a ball "I... I learnt about it from an old painting of Dumbledore, he told me of a theory he had that you can bring back the dead to be alive again."

"This is Dark Magic, Miss Black, that portrait you are speaking of is deranged, the younger version of Professor Dumbledore is not to be trusted" McGonagall shook Janna's shoulders, her hands quivering.

"Ma'am... The boys and I have attempted to figure out the method" Janna pursed her lips as she saw McGonagall's worrying eyes "I was told on the day that Mr. Winslow died, I can bring him back—"

"Certainly not!" McGonagall yelped, "Bringing back the dead is forbidden," McGonagall shook her head as she saw Janna's eyes stay determined "do you understand what  an Inferi is, Miss Black?"

"Yes ma'am, they are creatures of darkness, my...my father was killed by them" Janna stared at McGonagall, unbroken "Ma'am... I know that whoever I resurrect will lose something and something from myself will be lost."

"You will be ripped to shreds!" Ululated McGonagall "Miss Black, stay away from the Deathly Hallows, you must stay away from those boys and these ideas" Janna squinted her eyes "you know something else, ma'am, tell me, you know I can do this"

McGonagall shook her head looking at Janna as though she had slapped the Professor in the face "Miss Black... I will not encourage you to proceed with your attempt of Dark Magic"

    "But Dumbledore—"

"Dumbledore... Dumbledore is not the man you met in that painting" McGonagall shook her head at Janna who stared at the Professor with hopeful eyes.

"Ma'am, it's my fault Winslow died" Janna broke her stare from McGonagall "if I tear myself apart bringing him back, so be it, I will have my guardian back and I will be able to go home on the holidays"

McGonagall pursed her lips, she saw Janna's scars peeping from the collar of her Oxford "I understand Mr Winslow was especially kind to you, Miss Black, but you cannot hang onto someone after they have died, you can remember them but do not dwell on their life, mind that Mr. Winslow would possibly want you to be happy, he would want you to thrive and do your best in your life, he helped you, Miss Black, now he is gone and you have to live on with his memory and advice, take your life with both hands look at it to see when Mr Winslow had helped you. Use those events, those lessons to help you in similar situations"

Janna shook her head, letting her hair fall over her face "I want him back, I want to stay with him, we can be a family by ourselves again" McGonagall realised there was no way of getting the idea out of Janna's stubborn head, she had to take action elsewhere.

McGonagall looked at the windows of her classroom, seeing the sun was setting "Have you had your Wolfsbane?" Janna lifted her head, she nodded slowly before sitting upstraight "the sun is setting, Miss Black, we can continue this conversation some other time."

At the door was Professor Potter, he offered Janna to walk with him to the Whomping Willow, just in case Greyback would try to attack her, she promised her that she would be safe since he was an Auror of course, before they left McGonagall had asked Harry to come to her office to discuss something after dropping off Janna.
