A crystal ball

¤ ¤ ¤

From Sunday to Thursday Janna tried to speak to Professor Potter, but he kept disappearing with Janna being unable to track him, every time she looked on the map for him he was usually on the other side of the castle. Finally on Friday Janna was alone, she stalked the hallways under the cover of the invisibility cloak, guided by the Marauder's map and Sirius.

"Have you checked his office?" Janna asked as the black dog came back from running around, panting he trotted by Janna's side.

"Yes, he disappeared, I'm not sure how he did it but Harry was there and gone the next moment." Sirius said lowly as Janna turned a corner "Harry isn't like this, all cloak and dagger. I feel he might jump out at any moment to catch us"

"Catch me, Sirius, then try and keep you away from me" Janna looked at Snuffles as she lifted the cloak so he could see her "Harry must have been a joy when he was younger but now he's... well, been through a war and had lost nearly everyone he knew. That must do some awful things to a person"

The black dog stared at Janna "Harry could not have changed, he must be hiding his real self to keep everyone else safe"

Dropping the cloak over herself again Janna carried on, the both of them moved with Sirius being guided by her footsteps "I couldn't imagine hiding my real self" the two went around a dark corner.

"Don't you hide some of yourself, though?"

"No, this is who I am, I'm human, I'm... me not that thing. This is how people should see me, Julianna Black, Sirius Black's niece and closely aquatinted with Teddy Lupin, who crashes into breakfast to visit his girlfriend." Janna smiled to herself "I am the one who gets to say who I am, nobody else can bloody do so"

A barking laugh came from Snuffles "Amazing, you're more like your mother"

"Didn't my father try break away from the family?"

Snuffles snorted "No," he lowered his voice and spoke under his breathe "he was the one my parents wanted, I... wasn't"

"Well, Sirius, I want you" Janna saw the dog's ears lift, his tail wagged slightly "Don't let that take you over, Sirius," Janna advised as she looked forward again "Loads of people didn't want me, but here I am, in a better place trying to help someone else... That's what I want to do, help others"

   "And others helping you?"

"I... I like doing things alone, I don't agree with it but I use it to my advantage, even though I do go overboard—" Suddenly the cloak was ripped from over Janna's head, she swung around and saw Potter holding the cloak, his beard far more prominent now "Hello Harry... I was looking for you"

"Under the invisibility cloak?" Potter questioned, holding the cloak a little higher, his voice was sterner as well as  angrier than usual.

"Well, you didn't stay in one place when I tried to talk to you so I just thought that I could sneak up on you and tell you something..." Janna tried to take back the cloak by putting out her hand for the silvery material  "It seems, though, you found me first"

Potter swayed the cloak away from Janna "what do you want to tell me?"

"I...I want to...er...show—" Janna saw his eyes squint through his glasses "um...show...you something I found in the forest when I ran away from the Shack the last full moon"

"You want to take me there now?"

Janna looked to her left to see Snuffles nodding his head, she quickly looked back at Potter "Yes, that's perfect"

The teacher followed the student down the green of the castle, she had to remember the way to the clearing so she took a deep breathe of air to find any familiarity with the area "follow me, we aren't far from it"

So Potter followed Janna, she moved through trees with a strange gait, she was hunched over a bit and with her head lifted, as though to smell something. "Janna, what are you doing?"

"I'm looking for anyone who'll be watching us" Janna felt a breeze brush through her, she breathed in the air, smelling nothing human or animal like "last time I was out here... I was...er...lead by scent to where we're going. I don't want to put you in danger"

Potter smiled as he was lead by Janna as she watched the shadows of the forest "Greyback isn't near, I wasn't here for the past days because I helped in a confidential case to capture Greyback, but we lost him in Mayfair. We suspect he has a hide there, although his pack is possibly in Germany at the moment"

Janna pursed her lips "Are you still looking for him?"

"We're cornering him, last report I received said we have him in an area of half a mile or so" Potter said, following Janna through a thick wall of snow covering a bramble bush. What came from Janna next shocked Potter.

"I can maybe help catch him..." Janna paused in her tracks under a heavy fir tree "Since Greyback is hellbent on taking me, I can lure him—"

"No, absolutely not" Potter came to Janna but she turned around, her face hard and stern, her eyes narrowed at Potter.

"I don't want to feel the way I felt that night ever again! You don't understand what I felt, what I feel when he's watching me!  I fought for my life when he tried to take me!" Janna's eyes were hit with tears, she wiped her eyes with the back of her sleeve. Soon her voice lowered "I nearly died, I was alone, scared, weak... I was... I thought I was going to be taken, Greyback, he knew what he was doing, he was confident in his movements, I was terrified to a point of succumbing to him." Janna turned away from Potter, walking far more slowly "I didn't have freewill, I was utterly dependant on Greyback's commands," She walked in a hast, her hands landing deeply in her pockets as a small ray of sunlight hit her skin "I wouldn't want anyone to go through that"

"Janna, you shouldn't try to lure him in," Potter walked at Janna's side, seeing her face was shadowed "he will use this to his advantage"

"I want him to feel what I felt, I want him to feel controlled, trapped, I want to see the guilt in his eyes" Janna looked at Potter, she ran her hand through her hair, shaking her head as she looked down, distracted by her thoughts "wouldn't you?" Slowly her eyes rose to Harry's gaze "seeing the guilt in your condemner's eyes?"

"Not exactly" Potter stared at Janna's tired eyes, seeing the peak of the new scar on her face, he only had one scar, Janna's outnumbered his, all the torture they had both endured "I see what you want, but I wouldn't want you to pursue the idea" Potter put a hand on Janna's shoulder, she put her  hand on it, the scars on her pale skin were more prevalent on his hand, he saw why she wouldn't use her right arm as often.

"I hate him, Harry... Greyback's probably going to enjoy this comment but... I wish he never made me into this monster—"

"You're not a monster, Janna. You understand?"

"If you saw me that night..." Janna shook her head "You would make me the complete definition of a monster"

"Well then, monsters are very kind creatures, by definition" Potter laughed, Janna felt a ball rise in her throat "You're not anything bad, since it doesn't matter what people make you, it matters what you make yourself"

"Where did you get that from, a crystal ball?"
