"Ground control to major Tom!" Carolyn called across the table.

Jamie's head snapped up. "Sorry," She muttered. She had been thinking about Conrad. Again. Goddammit, why can't I get him out of my head?

Carolyn and Bill looked at her worriedly, before Carolyn  repeated herself. "How was school today, dear?"

Jamie smiled. "It was fine. It was nice to see Alex again."

"Oh yes, wasn't she in New York?" Bill asked. That was one great thing about her dad, he always remembered stuff like that. Not like most dads. Hell, Jamie knew mothers who remembered less than Bill did.

"Yeah, she was. You should have seen Kelsey light up when she arrived," Jamie laughed.

"Uh, James, it was impossible not to see that giant grab her girlfriend. And no, I don't mean "a friend that's a girl."" Roxane sneered.

Carolyn laughed as if it were a laughing matter. Bill gave Jamie a sympathetic smile as if to say "don't let her get to you." Again with the memory thing, he knew Kelsey had a boyfriend.

That was Roxane's latest, calling her James, instead of Jamie. It really bugged her, but there was no way in hell Jamie was going to let her know that, or she would never stop. Seriously, like never.

Suddenly Jamie started stuffing her face, because she realized that she really wanted to go text Conrad.

"Whoa, James, that is so unattractive," Roxane said with disgust.

"I'm done mom, I'm going to go do some homework, okay? I love you," she said as she went up the stairs as quickly as she could without actually going overly fast.

First, Jamie went to the bathroom to brush her teeth, then she changed into some pyjamas and pulled her hair down from it's pony-tail.

She sat down for a few moments, unsure of what to actually say to him. Eventually, she settled with something pretty straightforward.

"Hey, it's the gal from chemistry"

He was also in her geography class, but she wasn't sure if he had noticed her there. So she left that out.

She decided to actually do some homework while she waited for him to reply. Haha, that was a good one, she played flappy bird while she waited.

It wasn't too long before he replied.

"Hiya, I was wondering if you would text me"

"well, you do still owe me a tea"

"two lumps, wasn't it?"

"good memory"

"don't read too much into it. wait, actually, do. do read into it"

"you're kinda confusing, you know that?" Jamie dared. She wasn't so good at the flirting, so she usually just tried to be sly.

"i have a feeling you can keep up"

Jamie was slightly surprised as, when she was about to reply, Conrad called.

"Hi," was all he said.

"Hi," I said back.

A moment of silence ensued. In a moment of desperation, afraid it was going to get awkward, Jamie tried something she had seen Roxane do a thousand times. Yes, you can feel free to cringe now.

"What's your last name again? So I can put it into my contacts," Jamie knew full freaking well that it was Mason, but apparently it was like, hard to get or something.

"Sure, it's Finnegan," he said nonchalantly. 

In surprise, Jamie had to stop herself from saying "no, it's Mason." And Alex had told her that too, and she never slipped up on something like that. she was way too thorough. So instead she went with it.

"Okay," she said.

At the other end of the phone, Conrad sounded disappointed, like he wanted me to say something about it. "Oh, ah, I was kidding. It's actually-"

"Mason. I know. Now I'm the confusing one, right?"

Conrad laughed. And then he said something. And then Jamie replied with something. Then he said something else. See, the next morning, she didn't remember most of what they had talked about. She just remembered the casual feeling they already had. She did, however, remember waking up and finding out that she never hung up. Which meant she had fallen asleep talking to Conrad.

cautiously, Jamie tested if Conrad had fallen asleep also.

"Conrad?" She whispered into the phone.

She heard an incoherent reply. Jamie nearly gasped and quickly hung up. 

It took everything within her not to giggle and wake the house.
