Did he say "crush"?

Jamie walked out of English, slightly put out from all the homework she just got. Her mood however, was peachy keen again when she saw Conrad waving her over to  his lunch table.

Jamie looked over to Alex and Kelsey, who gestured for her to go.

Jamie sat down next to Conrad, who had a pizza.

"Did you get that pizza before school?" Jamie asked, seeing as their stupid private school didn't serve pizza.

"Yeah, it's just pepperoni, nothing special."

"It's the thought that counts," Jamie said smiling, as she picked the pepperoni off.

"You don't like pepperoni?" Conrad asked.

"I'm a vegetarian, but like I said, it's the thought that counts."

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize that."

a voice suddenly came from behind Conrad. Jamie hadn't even realize someone was there until she said "I think there's quite a lot that you haven't realized about my sister," Roxane said.

Conrad looked up at her, "care to indulge?"

"I don't need to, she's not worth it, trust me. If you wanted to get to know me, you could have just said so from the beginning."

"Excuse me?" Conrad asked, obviously surprised.

"That's why you're doing it, right? That's why you've befriended my sister, to get to know me," Roxanne said in a tone that suggested there was no other possibility.

"This might come as a shock to you, Roxanne, but I have friends, a life, that has nothing to do with you," Jamie said, trying not to let on how upset she was. Mostly because she had a sneaking fear that it was the truth.

"That's easy for you to say, you don't have to look at yourself all the time," She said in the most rude, condescending tone.

"Look, I think you've got the wrong impression, I'm friends with Jamie, because I have a crush on her. Which has nothing to do with you, bye," Conrad said, while make gestures for her to leave.

"Okay," she said smiling, " but I know something about her I'm certain she hasn't told you."

That was it. Jamie burst into tears of anger, sadness, but most of all, guilt.

Jamie stood up and started speed walking out of the cafeteria.

"Jamie, wait up. It's not true, I'm friends with you not her."

Oh no, please don't let him see me like this, Jamie thought.

Jamie ran into the girls bathroom. To her surprise, Conrad followed her in.

Conrad grabbed her shoulders gently, but firmly, and looked her in the eyes. "There is quite an obvious reason that I am friends with you and not your sister. I wouldn't be friends with someone who would put anybody else down that badly. Never mind their own sister. And on the contrary to what Roxane said, I happen to find you very beautiful. Much prettier than your sister, for sure," He said, then hugged her.

The school bell started to ring. "We'd better go." Jamie said, wiping her eyes.

As they were walking to chemistry, Jamie suddenly realized something Conrad had said. "I'm friends with Jamie because I have a crush on her."

Jamie was aware that she was probably grinning like an idiot, but she didn't care.

~~~
Jamie quickly stuck her keys into the ignition and dialled Alex's number. She had to turn down the volume before she answered though, as she knew she had been listening to music on the way to school.
"Sup girl?" Said Kelsey. This didn't surprise Jamie, she knew that Kelsey would have probably been with her anyway. And Kelsey sucked at picking up her -own- phone.
"You wanna meet up now?" Jamie asked as she headed toward their favourite cafe. Knowing ahead of time that's where they would go.
"Is that a trick question? We want to hear the grizzly details!" She said with perhaps too much enthusiasm.
"Okay, I'm heading over to Osner's. Meet up there?"
"Sounds good."
One of the reasons we always meet at Osner's is because it's so close. So only a few minutes went by before Jamie arrived at the small coffee house/café.
Jamie was there after the other two, so her mocha was already waiting for her. And just as she had boon excepting, as soon as she got there Alex and Kelsey turned to her and got right to the point.
"So... Tell us everything. Every last detail," Alex grinned.
Jamie picked up her drink and inspected it, taking a sip from it and taking her time swallowing. She rarely had the chance to talk about cute boys for herself, so she wanted it to be dramatic.
"Well... Where to start, where to start," she said mischievously.
"Oh my god, woman. Just tell us the damn story!" Kelsey said, looking exasperated.
"Okay, okay," Jamie giggled. "So as you know he beckoned me over, and then he offered me pizza. We weren't that long into the conversation before Roxane came over."
The both of them groaned in unison. "Did she tell him?" Alex asked.
"No, but she did say that I wasn't telling him something. Oh, by the way, before I continue with this, I have to tell you what happened last night."
Alex and Kelsey perked up at this. "Pray tell," Kelsey said.
"Well, he had given me his number in class. So after dinner I texted him. He then called me and I'm fairly certain that we both fell asleep talking to each other, because when I woke up, I was still on the phone with him!"
The three friends continued to gossip for a very long time. Details were pressed, and more than a few giggles escaped. And by the time Jamie got home, it was much later than she usually got back.
Jamie sighed. For the first time in a long while, life felt good again.
