A look into the life of a poor little rich girl
*Beep beep beep*
"Ugh," grumbled Jamie. "I really hate Mr. Norris." She thought.
Mr. Norris was Jamie's history, and least favourite teacher, and ever since her sister, Roxane told him that Jamie had bad mouthed him, she had been his least favourite student. This time Mr. Norris had piled far more homework on Jamie then any other student, and she had procrastinated on doing it, which caused her to stay up late studying.
Jamie threw on some clothes before slumbering down the stairs to breakfast.
"Look what the cat dragged in," said Roxane. "Really though, is that the best you can do?"
Jamie elected to ignore her sisters comment. Instead she pretended she was actually excited for the day. "Mom, what did Hugo pack for lunch?" She asked. "Cause I have PE today."
Hugo was their chef. When Jamie was little, she would go into the kitchens and "help" Hugo. But Hugo was a very patient person, and actually enjoyed the company, despite the mess afterwards. "I think he packed some tofu dogs," she said. "I don't see why you don't eat the meat Hugo makes, he's an amazing chef you know, we pay good money for him, you're wasting a great opportunity every meal."
"Lay off her, if she wants to make an independent choice, all the power to her," Jamie's father said. Carolyn curled her lip, but said nothing.
Jamie was glad that her father supported her, but she had a sneaking suspicion that he was only saying it to get on her mothers nerves, after their argument the prior night.
"So Roxy. how's Daniel doing lately?" Bill asked.
Roxane burst into tears. "He broke up with me!" she wailed as if in accusation for simply bringing up his name.
"Oh honey, it's his loss. Oh sweetie, it's okay, he's just a loser-ly jerk," Carolyn comforted Roxane.
Jamie wished she could just swat the drama out of the air as if it were some bothersome bug. Then she checked her watch.
"Oh, mom, I'm gonna be late. Can I take the Chevrolet?" she asked.
"Are you serious? I was just about to ask that," Roxane budded in.
"Jamie, you take the Mini Cooper, Roxy, you can take the Chevrolet," Carolyn settled, as if it were completely fair. Not that it mattered, Jamie wanted to take the Mini Cooper anyway, but if she had said that, then Roxane would have taken it.
The girls jumped up to get the keys. Roxane was quicker. She picked up both sets, and dropped the Mini Cooper set. "Oops." She smirked as she walked out the door.
Jamie wasn't bothered, if she let her sister take energy from her every time she felt like it, Jamie would be dead. Besides, she had just played her sister, which she wasn't very good at, so she focused on that.
"Jamie!" Bill called. Jamie turned around.
"Yeah?"
"did you take your pills?"
"No dad, I'll do it now." Jamie sighed, she hated taking pills.
Jamie quickly swallowed the tablets, and checked her watch again.
"Dammit." she said under her breath, she really did not want to be late for the first day of school.
Jamie jumped into the drivers seat of her favourite blue Mini Cooper. She hadn't been a driver for very long, but she was a natural. She didn't even have her full license yet, so she can't drive at night, or on highways without a listened adult next to her, but she was fine with that.
Jamie looked back at her house for a moment, she remembered the first time she had brought Kelsey to her house, Kelsey looked at it wide eyed, and said "you live in a mansion?" That was the first time she realized that her family was rich.
All the money we have, and yet I still can't have the one thing I truly want. Jamie thought, as she pulled out of the driveway.
Jamie rushed to school, she was glad the traffic was okay, considering it was rush hour. She made it with a few minutes to spare. That was good, she could talk to Alex a little before class starts.
Jamie looked up and down the hallways she hated, Alex and Kelsey were the only thing that made her nightmarish school worth it.
Yeah, you might think that public school would be worse than a private school. Think again. You have the same type of cliché jocks and cheerleaders, but throw in a thousand dollar allowance and a maid to do your homework. Not exactly a stroll in the park to co-exist with.
Jamie took her seat next to Alex in history.
"Alex! How was New York?" Jamie asked.
"It was okay, I don't see why we had to spend three weeks there, though."
"Well, you're back now, no need to dwell over the past."
Alex looked at Jamie a moment.
"What?" She asked.
"You sound like my mom, then again, you always did." Alex giggled.
Jamie was glad that Alex was back.
"Alright class, has everyone turned in their homework from the summer? good. Today we're going to learn about architectural anomalies." Mr. Norris started. Most of the teachers usually asked if we had a good summer, and at least pretended to care. There's classic Mr. Norris for you.
Jamie didn't see her other friend, Kelsey, until lunch. Which, in school time was about five days, and eight nights. When Jamie did finally get to lunch, it wasn't hard to spot Kelsey. For one, Kelsey was only two inches short of six feet, for another she was wearing a florissant pink shirt.
When Jamie got to her usual table, Kelsey was already catching up with Alex.
"It could be worse, I mean your father doesn't really have a choice in the matter." Jamie heard Kelsey saying.
"Jamie!" Kelsey said excitedly, even though they had seen each other a few days ago, but Kelsey was funny like that, she was a blabber mouth, she was extremely hyper, and more then slightly immature, but she was one of the best friends you could ask for.
"Hey Kel, what's up?"
"Not much. Do you guys wanna go out for pizza and soda after school?"
"I'd love to, but I'm gonna have to take a rain check on that, I've got a date with Daniel later." Alex said.
Jamie's eye twitched a little.
"Daniel Harrison?"
"Yeah, I know he just broke up with your sister, but she's dated virtually every guy here, she's not leaving anyone much of a choice here."
Jamie sighed, Alex had a point. Besides, Alex didn't date Roxanne's ex's very often.
"Point taken. Oh, I just remembered. Did you bring it back?" Jamie asked.
"If by "it", you mean trixes, then yes. Yes, I did."
Jamie did a fist pump. Roxanne had the cereal all the time, because she goes to the States to go partying often, but she never let Jamie have any.
Kelsey and Alex started chattering away about something or other, when something caught Jamie's eye, or rather, someone.
A boy Jamie had never seen before, he was wearing a guns' n'roses T- shirt, he had dark hair, she couldn't tell if it was black or dark brown. But there was just something about him, she couldn't put her finger on it.
'Hey, Alex?' Jamie said, interrupting Kelsey.
"Yeah?"
"Who's that boy over there?" If there was anyone who knew boys, it was Alex. Jamie was pretty sure she knew the names of every boys grandparents in the entire school.
"That's Conrad Mason, he just moved here from Boston. Why, do you recognize him from somewhere?"
"No, I don't know, he kind of looks familiar." Jamie said, "Forget it." She added, seeing the look on their faces.
"Okay." They said in unison, in a tone that made Jamie know that they were NOT going to forget it.
Jamie was actually glad when the bell came, because Kelsey and Alex starting a conversation about which boy would be perfect for her to marry. Which in turn meant they wanted Jamie's opinion on the matter.
Jamie's next class was chemistry, she didn't mind chem most of time, so she was fine with that.
Jamie looked at the seat arrangement, she hoped she would be beside Kelsey. She ran her finger across the names until she saw hers. She was sitting next to- Conrad Mason.
Jamie groaned, now she KNEW she would never hear the end of it.
Conrad was already there, setting up his books. Jamie sat down beside him.
Conrad looked up and smiled. "Hi, I'm Conrad. I don't believe I know your name."
Something about the way he said it made Jamie blush.
"I'm Jamie, Jamie Lawrence."
"Well Jamie, how do you do?"
"Marvellous, simply splendid." Jamie said.
"Would you care for a spot of tea?" He said, making Jamie giggle.
"Alright class, did everyone enjoy their summer? good." Ms. Peters started.
"Two lumps, please." Jamie whispered back, before focusing her attention on class.
Ms. Peters was a pretty good teacher, so class was pretty good, but it still felt longer than usual because Jamie suddenly, actually wanted to tell Alex and Kelsey about Conrad.
When the bell finally rang though, Jamie wasn't in a particular rush to leave.
"So, come here often?' Jamie asked Conrad.
Conrad laughed. "Well, it's my first time here, but I have a feeling I'll be coming quite often."
They both laughed.
Conrad scribbled something onto a piece of paper. "Text me later, will you?" He asked handing Jamie the paper with his number on it.
"I'll see what I can do." Jamie stood up. "I'll see you later then." she said as she walked out the door.
