Chapter 6: ᴡʜᴇʀᴇ ꜱʜᴇ'ꜱ ᴀᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ᴘᴏʟɪᴄᴇ ꜱᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴ♥

Kennedy

I dress into a floral cream spring dress that comes above my knees and clings to my waist.

I really like this dress despite the fact that it shows too much skin on the arms and shoulders with the shoulder straps being super thin. I pair it with my sandals.

After getting ready, I call Alex's name and he comes into my room within seconds.

Since I  hurt my knee, Alex's been carrying me around the house.

Do I feel bad for that?

Heck no.

You see his muscles? Someone's gotta take advantage of that.

Jake walks down the stairs while I and Alex have breakfast.

Alex's body tenses a bit as Jake walks by without greeting us or even giving us a glance.

As soon as Jake's out the front door, Alex lets himself relax.

I sense family drama.

"Is everything alright?" I ask Alex.

"Huh?" He looks at me before coming out of whatever thoughts he was in before giving me a smile. "Uh yeah, everything's fine."

I want to say that I'm a super criminal and I know when people lie, but I let it slide.

Alex drops me off at school and tells me to be careful with my knee.

I can walk of course. Some people might call it 'limping' though.

Anyways, I limp towards the school not before looking at the school across mine to see if I could catch a glimpse of Corey or Toothy.

They don't go to the school I go to. They go to the school across mine. They were at my school only to meet up with my school's football team to discuss when to hold the next match.

A disappointing feeling settles in my chest when I don't see them before I turn back around and move inside my school.

My knee hurts like a motherlover with each step I take but I keep going knowing I can't fall to the ground and cry like a baby about it.

I can actually.

On my way to class, my foot catches onto something and I almost go tumbling down to the ground if it hadn't been for a hand that catches my arm, pulling me up straight.

I look up to see a man with light stubble and crinkly brown eyes. He looks around thirty.

"I'm sorry," I say shyly looking away.

"You must be the new student." The man speaks with a gleam to his eyes.

I don't like his gleam.

I nod, biting my lip, "Uh yeah. My name's Kennedy."

"I'm Mark." He smiles. "Your English teacher."

"That's nice," I say and notice his hand was still on my bare arm.

He lets me go and I enter the class. He follows me until I take my place on my seat and he takes his behind his desk.

I try ignoring the way he's looking at me but it's just his eyes that's making me slightly uncomfortable.

   ✯✯✯

I struggle with my busted knee as I carry myself out of the school to see Jake's car already out and waiting. He's sitting inside with his eyes closed, his head leaning back on the seat.

I carry myself towards him and knock on the window. His eyes crack open and slide towards me. I grin at him in greeting through the window.

He looks away.

I feel a bit disappointed that he doesn't greet me back then remember how he hates my guts and is jealous of me.

I walk towards the other side of the car and get in with much difficulty. God can this knee be any more bothering. I can't even abandon it anywhere.

Jake starts driving the moment I shut the door.

"How are you?" I ask, biting my lip. I hate being in awkward silences.

He doesn't reply. Expected.

I look out the window but still couldn't help but glance at him frequently.

"You have pretty eyes." I blurt.

The corner of his eyebrow twitches but he says nothing.

"Thank you, you have pretty eyes too," I mumble for him.

I notice the car moving in a different direction and frown. Although I'm new here, I memorize directions quite easily.

"Are we going through a new way?" I ask, "I don't remember us taking this road."

An annoyed look crosses his face, but he doesn't say anything.

"Jake?" I say, thinking he suddenly went deaf.

Can people go suddenly deaf?

"Jake?"

He doesn't reply.

"Trashman?"

He turns to glare at me, making me shyly look away.

"Are we going through a new road?" I ask again, in case he has a short-term memory.

"Got some work somewhere." He finally replies in a low voice.

I wait for him to elaborate but he remains silent.

"Work where...?" I prod.

"Somewhere." He shoots me a glare.

"Why am I going with you? Do you need my help in anything?"

"No." He grits.

Oh mama, he doesn't like help. Noted.

"Is there a milkshake there? I'm thirsty."

A flicker of annoyance crosses his face, and he chooses not to reply to me once again.

I hum to myself, looking out the window.

"Stop humming," Jake snaps at me.

I turn my head towards him with a frown, "Why?"

"It's annoying."

"Well then talk to me," I say, annoyed myself. "I'm bored!"

"Can you stay silent for even a single fucking second?"

"I was while you were talking," I reply.

He shoots me a look.

When I start humming again, he turns on the radio to drown out my voice. I glare at him.

A couple of minutes later, we reach wherever Jake had his 'work'. He cuts off the engine and gets down the car, while I had to gather the strength and prepare my knee for a torturous movement.

When Jake realizes I'm still taking time to get down the car, he sighs in annoyance before walking towards me.

Putting his hands under my arms, he picks me up like a doll and places me on the ground.

Oh mama, strong arms.

I remind myself to pat his biceps later.

He locks his car and walks ahead to a building. I read the words marked outside which read 'New York Police Department'.

Why are we at a police station?

Is he getting me arrested?

I follow Jake but him being blind and deaf and dumb, doesn't realize that I'm not really keeping up with his long strides.

I'll make sure to shorten those long legs later. With my knives.

He enters the building while I'm still far away.

When I walk in, he's nowhere to be seen.

Where'd this boy go now? Or man. Whatever.

A few guys wearing police uniforms sit on desks or walk by and I have to take in a moment to take in the place. Oh god, I'll have to fight these hulk-type people when I'm taking over the world?

I hope they go easy on me. Not that I'm weak. I can lift two solid thick bricks.

I'm kidding. I can't even pick one.

A policeman sitting at a desk notices me and calls out to me.

"Hey, you need something?" His eyebrows furrow at me.

I turn towards him, feeling shy when a couple of other guys turn their heads in my direction.

"Uh yeah. This guy I was with suddenly just vanished." I reply, playing with the curls of my hair.

"Come sit here." He notices my bandaged knee and points towards a chair in front of this desk.

I carry myself towards him and plop down onto the chair, looking at the huge man. He's bald with strong features. Like The Rock. Except for this guy's black.

"So you want to give in a missing case?" He asks as he takes out a notepad and pen, looking at me scrutinizingly.

"Something like that," I say.

He nods, "Name?"

"Kennedy Kinsey." I grin. "Hey, how ya doin'?"

The man blinks at me. "Fine?"

Some other policeman walks over to us, holding a mug in his hands. Is that hot chocolate?

"What's goin' on?" He asks when he nears us, leaning against the desk.

"Someone went missing." The bald guy replies before turning towards me. "Yes, Miss Kinky? Tell us about this person."

"It's Kinsey." I correct him.

The guy holding his mug laughs before patting Baldy on his head.

I notice a gun on the table. My inside burst with happiness. Without even giving it another thought, I grab it and raise it towards Baldy and the other guy.

An evil laugh escapes my lips. "Surrender."

Their eyes move towards me and widen before Baldy's eyes went narrow.

"That's my gun." He glares.

"Not anymore." I grin.

Oh mama, I'm holding a real-life gun in my hand.

I'm holding a real-life gun in my motherfreaking hands!

Dad would be proud.

Chatters around the police station stop as all eyes turn towards me. Why are they all looking at me? I'm going shy. Dang, it.

"Put the gun down," Baldy narrows his eyes.

"Why don't I put it up, huh?" I question. "What's so special about the down?"

"Put it anywhere but out of your hands." He grumbles.

"I'm not leaving this gun," I say and raise it towards Baldy's head. Should I shoot him? I shouldn't...I should. I shouldn't...I should.

"I'm going to shoot," I warn.

Other police officers pull out their own guns and point at me until I had fifteen guns pointing at my head.

"Welp, that's not how I planned for this to go, ha, ha..." I gulp.

"Put down the gun, kid." One of them warns.

I point the gun at him. "I'll put you down."

"Relax everybody." Baldy calms everyone. "That gun is on safety lock. She doesn't know how to unlock it."

Everyone puts down their guns at that.

"What's a safety lock?" I ask in confusion.

"The button on the trigger that stops it from pulling," Baldy replies.

"Oh, you mean this?" I find it and press it. It unlocks.

"No!" Everyone had their guns pointing at me in an instant.

"Kennedy?"

A voice I recognize and come to like calls my name and I turn around to see Jake at the entrance of a hallway. An extremely angry expression marks his face, making me freeze. He marches towards me.

I turn to run but my stupid knee doesn't take me that far.

He snatches the gun from my hands.

"Nooo." I cry, trying to get it back.

Jake shoots me a lethal look and I immediately shut up grumbling under my breath.

I just had my gun!

Jake sets the gun down on the table before turning around and giving me another glare. I glare back to show him how mad I am at him.

"I just had my gun!" I complain to him.

"I told you to follow me. Where the fuck did you go?" He glares harder.

"Hello Miss, have you seen your legs? They're as long as slender man's. I couldn't keep up."

"Just shut up and get into the car now."

I turn towards the bald policeman, "Are you seeing this right now? No respect at all."

Baldy only glares at me, "You got your germy hands on my gun."

"What are you? Five?" I give a 'geez' look, "Get over it."

"Just write in your missing case and leave, Miss Kinky." Baldy purposefully says my last name wrong.

"No need for that now, idiot." I glare. "I already found him."

Before I could continue my brawl with Mr. Baldy, Jake grabs onto my arm and pulls me out of the police station. His grip is hard and rough on my arm, and it almost makes me faint. Gary definitely injected me with extra hormones.

Jake pulls open the door of his car and without me even asking to, he lifts me up and places me inside. Darn this strong man.

He gets in next and starts driving.

"Why were we at the police station though?" I ask.

He sends a glare in my direction. "If you tell Alex anything about this, I swear you'll regret it with all your fucking life."

His warning doesn't scare me but instead raises curiosity, "Why not?"

Alex is a policeman too. Why didn't I see him there? Maybe he works at a different police station.

"Just shut up and don't tell anyone about this, you got me?"

I smile. "Are we keeping secrets now? I got one too. I-"

"Shut up."

I deflate and turn to look out the window.

✯✯✯

When we reach home, I sit in the car, waiting to see if Jake comes around to help me down or not.

He does.

I smile at him, "Thank you."

He says nothing and walks inside the house, leaving me to follow him. I smile at my Yoda that stands with its arms wide open, ready to greet people.

Alex and Jake are grateful that I kept such a pretty face to see when they enter home.

"So what are we doing?" I ask, entering the house and closing the door behind me.

Jake who's now seated on the living room couch, gives me a frown, "We?"

I shrug, "We're both alone."

As if just noticing that, the corner of his mouth lifts just a bit into a smirk and I almost gasp. That wasn't anywhere near a smile, but that was something. Oh wait, he smirked before too, didn't he?

"Are you suggesting something?" He asks.

"Uh..." I look around the living room while I thought of something, "How about we rename all my toys? That's legal right?"

His smirk drops and he glares. "You're really stupid, you know?"

I glare back, "How many times are you going to say that?"

"As long as it takes to fix it in your empty skull."

"Excuse me, my skull has a very big juicy brain." I cross my arms against my chest which makes his eyes fall on my boobs. Yeah, he wishes he had boobs like mine.

Oh wait, he's a guy.

A strange sort of look crosses his eyes and I'm reminded of that hungry street dog again.

"Juicy, huh?" he says.

My cheeks turn warm, and I let my hands fall back to my sides, "I got bigger brains than you."

"Says who?"

"I don't know. But they do be saying that." I state.

He looks away from me and to his phone.

"Let's do something," I say after a while of uselessly standing in the living room.

He ignores me.

I pick up one of my plush toys and throw it at him.

Oh mama, my aim is so bad, even while standing six feet away, the toy hits him nowhere near and lands beside him on the couch instead.

Jake's eyes flit to the toy then raises to me with raised eyebrows. "That's the best you got?" He gives a 'you're pathetic' look.

"I'd like to see you try." I place my hands on my hips.

He gives a bored look before looking back at his phone.

"Why aren't you throwing?" I ask. "Come on, give it all you got. Come on, come on. Scared? Ha! I knew you---oof."

I almost go flying when the toy hits me square in the face.

Placing a hand on my nose, I glare at Jake. "You just got lucky."

He gives a nod. "Yup, that's exactly what happened."

I sense sarcasm.

He's gonna pay.

I'm close to breaking out into my secret ninja moves before remembering Jake already has enough brain damage than necessary. If I kick his head, he'll lose the rest of his memory and probably go into a five-year coma.

"Why do you call Alex by his first name?" I ask- more like blurt. Eh, whatever.

He glares at me. "Is that any of your business?"

I put my weight on one foot, mumbling, "Well...I'm gonna be living here for who knows how long so...yes?"

"It's not."

"It's fine if you don't wanna tell me. People usually need a little push when coming to confessing things. I'll tell you my secret. I-"

"Shut up."

I clamp my mouth while silently sending daggers in his directions.

I'll just go find my knives then if he's gonna be this difficult.

Is anyone here lactose intolerant? Istg I just drank half a cup of coffee and I had to go to the bathroom five freaking times!!

I hate coffee btw...like SO MUCH! Just the smell of it makes me gag.

But I had to drink it because it's currently 5:45 Am and I had zero hours of sleep. I also have to study for my Math exam.
