I walk out of school with Eve beside me.
My eyes stop on Jake and this time instead of him waiting in his car with his signature glare and all, he's standing out. Leaning against his car, he holds a cup in one hand and in the other, his phone.
A few strands of his dark brown hair fall over his eyebrows with a black tee stretching across his broad chest and wide shoulders. I internally drool an ocean looking at Jake's huge and tall form standing under the sunlight.
By the looks of it, even Eve finds him attractive because she's staring at him.
Eh, she already has a boyfriend so she's only admiring Jake and nothing else.
Right...?
"I'll see you later?" I ask Eve, getting her attention off Jake.
She looks at me and nods. "Yeah," she smiles.
We part ways and I walk toward Jake.
He looks up at me upon my arrival and I smile.
"Not gonna yell at me to get the eff in quickly before Corey comes?" I ask.
He rolls his eyes, "Let the fucker come when he wants. Here," He says and hands me the cup he's holding.
I take with curiosity, "Poison?"
"Yes."
"What kind?"
"Rat."
"Ooo you got the nastiest ones." I give him a look of approval, "I bet they sold it to you for two hundred dollars, black money."
"The blackest of money," He nods.
I break out into a grin, "Okay seriously, what is this?" I sniff the lid of the cup.
"Milkshake."
My body stops whatever it was doing. My heart turns mushy and I can't help the aww that comes out of my mouth. "You got me a milkshake?" Oh mama, I'm emotional.
He nods.
"Which flavour?"
He furrows his eyebrows, "There was supposed to be a fucking flavour?"
My smile drops at his question, "There-there's a flavour for a milkshake. How did you get this then without the milkshake guy asking you which flavour?"
He shrugs, "I just told him I wanted a milkshake."
I frown in confusion and take a sip from the cup.
"Oh, it's just a milkshake," I conclude. "That means it's only ice cream and milk."
I let out a sigh of content after taking another sip.
"This is so good. Thank you," I tell him.
"Which flavour should I get you next time?" He asks.
"Anything." I grin. "I love em' all."
He watches me slurping the milkshake.
"Want some?" I offer him the cup and he shakes his head.
I shrug.
More for me then.
✯✯✯
I dance in the kitchen while the popcorns pop in the microwave.
The clock displays the time nine at night, and it's a Friday.
I'm in the middle of doing a shimmy when Toothy walks in.
"Oh." She freezes abruptly, wide-eyed, catching me dancing. "Was...I supposed to walk in?"
I shrug, giving her a grin. "It's fine."
Kinda.
I mean I got killer moves but sometimes I get shy.
"I was here for water," She says and moves towards the fridge.
She sports a t-shirt and comfy shorts for the sleepover we all are going to have.
I'm wearing a t-shirt and shorts of my own too. Including knee-high white socks. My legs were getting cold.
Toothy uncaps the bottle of water and drinks from it. Her eyes leave glances in my direction as I wait for the popcorn to finish popping.
She finishes drinking and wipes her lips with the back of her hand, before putting the bottle back.
She moves to walk out of the kitchen but stops just at the entrance.
She turns towards me, playing with a long silky strand of her hair.
"I wanted to um..." She starts but then shakes her head. "Never mind."
"What?" I look at her.
She's shaking her head again but cuts herself off and breathes in. "I wanted to ask you about something."
I peer at her, waiting, "Yeah?"
Is she gonna ask about bears? Pandas? Yodas?
Butts?
"Your parents."
Oh.
I blink, "My parents?"
She nods, biting her lip, "If you're not comfortable with the topic, I can just leave."
"No, it's fine." I stop her. "What do you wanna ask?"
She purses her lips as if she doesn't really want to speak, "Did they ever...did they know someone by the name Elizabeth?"
I frown in confusion.
"Elizabeth?"
She nods.
My eyebrows furrow as I try to remember if I ever heard the name Elizabeth come out of my parent's mouths.
I shake my head, "No, I don't think so."
A sigh comes out of her mouth and she nods, "Okay."
"Is something wrong?" I ask, noticing the frown between her eyebrows.
She shakes her head, "No, nothing. It's just that..." she hesitates again, looking at me as if debating in her mind whether or not she can tell me.
I one hundred percent can keep secrets. It actually depends on how much it can ruin someone's life. If it's a serious matter, I can keep shut. Most of the time, I don't even remember what secrets the other person tells me.
"Don't tell this to anyone, okay?" Her voice turns low, and she glances towards the door to make sure Jake or Corey aren't there.
I nod, reassuringly.
Toothy inches a step towards me, her voice lowering down to a whisper, "Elizabeth is my mom."
I slowly give a nod not sure what's so secret about telling your mother's name.
"Okay..." I say.
Her eyes lower to the floor and she clutches the hem of her shorts, "She umm-she walked out on me when I was..." She cuts herself off and nods, "Yeah, she walked out on me without a word or anything."
"Oh." A sad look comes on my face.
Toothy gives out a sigh before speaking again, "I just really haven't been able to...accept it. I don't know why I think finding her would make a difference," Toothy's eyes turn glassy, and it makes me tear up too.
"I'm so sorry, Toothy," My bottom lip wobbles as I walk over to her and put my arms around her, catching her off guard.
A parent purposefully walking out of their child's life is so cruel.
"No one should experience that." I sniff.
An expression of surprise comes on Toothy's face, "It's fine, Ken. Don't cry. Oh my god, you're actually crying." A small chuckle comes out of her mouth, but it's so short. "It's fine, really. My dad married again. I got Corey." She says before making a sudden disgusted face, "Urgh, I got Corey."
"I know how it's like losing a parent," I say, more tears filling my eyes despite me not wanting to, "I'm sorry you had to go through that."
She hesitatingly pats my back, "It's fine."
I hug her for a while, and finally, stop crying. I pull back and look at Toothy giving her a soft smile.
That's when Corey and Jake decide to stroll into the kitchen.
They pause in their steps when their eyes land on Toothy and me, with my hands on her waist and hers on my wrists.
Corey furrows his eyebrows matching Jake's expression. "Is...this another one of your 'girls' thing?"
✯✯✯
I scream once again when another motherflipping jump scare comes on the flipping TV screen.
Toothy matches my scream.
"Shh!" Corey shushes us, eying the TV with a focused look, eating all the popcorn while sitting cross-legged on the carpeted floor.
Right now, Jake's sitting on the couch with Toothy and me on either side of him. I can tell he's getting annoyed with two girls screaming in his ear whenever a jump scare comes on but what the heck could Toothy and I even do?
He's huge on the couch and easy to grab onto to hide our faces and scream.
The scene in the movie moves onto a suspenseful moment and I just freaking know there's going to be another jump scare.
Toothy is the first one to jump off the couch, "I can't watch this anymore!" She yells, "Let's do something else."
"Shh!" Corey shushes her and Toothy's face ticks into one of those looks that say, 'I'm two seconds away from shredding you.'
Without consenting, Toothy picks up the remote and switches the TV off.
"NO!" Corey shouts and jumps off the ground, sending popcorn flying everywhere.
"Gimme that!" Corey says to Toothy, glaring at her.
Toothy narrows her eyes, "No."
Corey runs to take the remote but Toothy turns around and runs away, clutching the remote, disappearing somewhere inside the house.
"That's gonna go on for a while, isn't it?" I ask Jake.
I'm completely snuggled beside him with a blanket draped over us.
He nods.
He lets out a yawn and leans his head back on the couch, looking sleepy.
His yawn causes me to yawn too.
"Jake?"
"Hmm?"
"How long has it been since Toothy's dad married again?"
He furrows his eyebrows, "Three years."
I nod.
"Why?" He asks.
I shake my head, "Just curious."
A concerned protective type of frown comes on his face. "Toothy...told you about herself?"
I shrug, "Only a lil' bit."
✯✯✯
"Tonight we're going to play a game called..." Corey drags on holding a bottle in his hand, "Truth or dare!"
"Boo," Jake says monotonously.
"Gather around on the floor, everybody!" Corey waves us over.
We all sit on the carpeted floor in a circle while Corey positions the bottle in between us.
I sit in between Toothy and Jake with Corey across me.
I've never really played Truth or Dare before so I'm currently wiggling in my place in excitement.
Corey spins the bottle and it lands on me and I nearly burst.
"Okay, Kennedy truth or dare?" He asks.
"Truth," I answer.
"Do you have a secret talent that nobody knows about?" He asks.
"Murdering," I answer without any hesitation.
Jake sighs while Toothy raises an eyebrow.
"That nobody knows about," Corey repeats. "I'm pretty sure the whole damn world knows you're a criminal."
"Oh."
I think about it before remembering I can do the eyebrow wave thing.
"Does this count?" I ask and do the eyebrow wave, where my eyebrows can move in the pattern of waves.
"How the fuck are you doing that?" Corey's mouth drops open. He's gaping at me with wide eyes.
Jake and Toothy also give me looks of surprise.
I laugh, "I don't know. I just can."
Next, I spin the bottle and it lands back to Corey.
He chooses dare.
I think about a dare before speaking, "I dare you to text a random girl and fix a date with her."
Toothy rolls her eyes, "Oh come on, Ken. That's the easiest dare."
I furrow my eyebrows, "Yeah?"
"Yup," Corey grins, taking out his phone. "Girls wanna go out with me all the time."
"Fine, then I'll modify this dare," I state, "the girl should be above thirty years old."
Corey pauses typing on his phone and turns to me with a wide-eyed look, "What?"
Toothy laughs while Jake smirks.
"Let's see you wing this," Toothy says.
Corey thinks about it before shrugging, "Alright."
He starts tapping on his phone again.
"Who're you texting?" Toothy asks.
"Our English teacher," He smirks.
After a while, Corey's smile drops and he narrows his eyes.
"What? What did she say?" I ask.
"She said she's giving me an F this month." He grumbles before shrugging, "I'll find some other woman. Let's just continue playing for now."
Corey spins the bottle and it lands on Jake.
Corey's face lights up with a grin immediately while Jake gives out a big groan.
"Jakey!" Corey hollers, "Truth or dare?"
"Dare," Jake grumbles.
"I dare you to twerk."
Images of Jake twerking immediately comes to my mind.
Oh mama.
"Truth." Jake changes immediately.
"Aw man," Corey laughs, "Okay truth hmm..." A mischievous look appears on his face, "How many girls have you thought of fucking today?"
Toothy groans putting a hand on her face, "You boys."
"One," Jake answers, blankly.
"Really?" Corey questions as if not believing him, "Who?"
Jake's mouth lifts into a smirk, "You get to ask only one fucking question."
"Right, right," Corey dismisses his question.
Jake spins the bottle, and it lands on Toothy.
We continue playing the game for a while before getting bored and choosing a board game. Then another game, then another game, then another game.
We continue playing until the clock displays the time 2:30 and I start feeling sleepy.
We all arrange the blankets and pillows on the floor and lie down with Jake and Corey on either side of Toothy and I. Jake beside me and Corey beside Toothy.
Toothy and Corey passed out the moment their heads touched the pillows.
I'm twisting my hair into a somewhat braid and fluffing my pillow before an arm comes over my waist and pulls me down.
I inaudibly gasp as Jake pulls me to him until his strong arms wrap around me with my face squishing into his hard chest.
I try pulling away and looking up at his lazy sleepy face.
"Yes?" I whisper.
"I want to sleep with you," He whispers back.
"I am sleeping with you," I gesture towards my pillow that's left all alone now that I was on Jake's.
"I can't hold you from that fucking far." He grumbles and I let out a quiet laugh.
"Okay," I nod before putting my hand around his neck.
He sucks in a breath and goes rigid, and I pull back thinking I accidentally scratched him or something.
"What?" I ask, searching his face.
"Your knee rubbed against my fucking dick." He groans, squeezing his eyes shut.
My eyes widen and I look down, trying to see in the darkness. My knees are near the bottom of his torso and thighs. And yeah, near his that part.
"Should I kick it?" I ask.
"Sure, babe, go ahead." A smile stretches across his face.
I realize too late that he's actually being sarcastic. My knee already rears back and slams hard onto his goodie part. Jake jumps in his place, curling over with his face scrunching into a grimace.
"Fuckkk." He groans out, breathing hard. He looks up at me and I wince at seeing the pain on his face.
"You told me I could kick it." I defend myself.
His expression morphs into a half-frown with pain still etched on his face. "I...was being sarcastic."
"Yeah...I realized that too late." I look at his face and wince again. "Want...me to get some ice or something?"
He shakes his head, breathing in a few breaths before silently pulling me into his arms again.
"Keep your knee away from my dick." He warns.
"It's near your stomach now," I say.
"Thank you."
"Should I kick that?"
"Goodnight, Ken." He tightens his arms around me.
My body melts into his at the warmth that radiates from his body.
"You're so warm," I sigh in content.
He hums in response.
My eyes get droopy, and I let them close, slowly melting into Jake's arms.
"Ken?" Jake whispers before I could completely doze off.
I nod my head in response not having it in me to open my eyes again.
"Can I be your boyfriend?"
