"But you're the one that I want, if that's really so wrong
Then they don't know what this feeling is like"

Gabriella Peréz ran as fast as she could in the bullpen after hearing Scully shouting. "You can't take her from me, you bastard!", said Scully devastated. "What's going on? Is someone dying?", asked Gabriella worried as she arrived next to Rosa. "Unit's being replaced.", said the man who was bringing the vending machine away. "Come on! No!", shouted the squad together. "That machine's been here forever. It's basically part of the force. Take Scully instead.", said Jake, pointing to the older man. A smile appeared on Scully's face at the thought. "Yes, please, take me to the land of vending machines." "Can we at least have five minutes to say a proper goodbye?", asked Gabriella with big eyes.
"Whatever.", said the man and let the machine down. Jake walked towards it. "Let me just start by saying that this machine is the best restaurant in Brooklyn and it always had a table for me.", he said. "I knew just where to punch it to get free food. Now I have to go to punching Hitchcock.", chimed Rosa in. "That's where I met Rosa and Amy back at my first day here.", said Gabriella and hugged Rosa. The woman ruffled her hair in response and smiled lightly remembering the day.
■■■
Rosa and Amy sat in the break room as a small brunette girl walked in. She walked to the vending machine with one dollar bill in hand ready to get her candy she so much wanted. Unfortunately it got stuck. The girl began to slam against it but nothing happened. That's when Rosa stepped in. "You need help kiddo?", she asked in her intimidating voice. The girl only nodded and stepped aside. The Latina began to punch against it a few times aggressively and finally! The desired candy fell down. Rosa picked them up and handed them to the mysterious child. "Are your parents around here?", asked Amy kind. The girl opened the bag and put a few skittles in her mouth. "No." "So you're alone here?", asked Amy wanting more details. "Not really.", answered the girl, eating more skittles.
"What are you doing here then?", asked Rosa and rose her eyebrow. The girl only laughed. "I'm working here. Well at least I hope so." "Wait. You're the junior detective in training?", asked Amy, remembering about the news she heard from Terry earlier this morning. "That's right, miss. I'm Gabriella Valencia Peréz.", said Gabriella smiling and stretched out her hand. "Amy Santiago. So exciting to have you here.", smiled Amy and shook her hand. "And who are you, intimidating lady?", asked Gabriella turning her head to the unknown woman. Rosa only chuckled and snatched a few skittles away. "Rosa Diaz." "Pleasure.", said Gabriella and glared at her. "If you ever want some just ask. That's all." "I will remember that, little dum dum.", said Rosa and ruffled Gabriella's hair. The girl prepared to leave but got stopped by Amy. "Welcome to the Nine Nine." "Thanks! I think we would be awesome friends!", and boy was she right.
●●●
Gabriella tapped Rosa's shoulder pulling her back to reality. "Daydreaming is my thing Rosie.", she said giggling. "Look, she still has the bags of baby carrots I requested they put in. They're black now but they're there.", mentioned Terry. "Goodbye, beautiful machine. Thank you for your service.", said Jake thoughtful and walked back to his place. "Okay, squad salute.", he said and put on Amazing Grace on his phone. Everyone saluted and went silent for a minute. "You can take her away now.", said Gabriella, allowing the man to pull the machine up only to let her fall completely down, breaking the glass. Jake looked at Gabriella with wide eyes. "Free candy!", both shouted and ran together with everyone to the machine. Gabriella got her skittles, offering some to Rosa. A never ending skittles story.

Gabriella missed the morning briefing which she usually never does. But school is a priority at this point. Probably because she needed to talk to Troy about what happened at her uncles' dinner party. It was not a secret that both liked the kiss. But it was still weird between them, especially for Gabriella.
"Hey.", said a male voice, pulling her back to reality. "Oh, hi.", she answered. "How are you?", asked Troy nervous and smiled. "Let's stop. This conversation will go boring after the next answer.", said Gabriella honest and sat down on the bench. "You're right. We should talk about the kiss. That's why you called me, right?", he asked and sat down besides her. "Exactly. Look, this kiss was something both of us didn't expected and I'm sorry if you didn't-" "I liked it.", confessed Troy, interrupting a panicked Gabriella. The girl stared wide eyed at him. "You did?", she asked confused. "Yeah. I've been waiting for it actually.", said Troy and laughed. "That's surprising.", answered Gabriella and laughed too. Silence followed for a few minutes before Troy breaking it up. "What are we now then? Are we still friends or are we dating?" "I don't know honestly. The thought of us dating sounds a little ridiculous but cute.", confessed Gabriella and looked at the boy besides her. "We haven't been on a real date besides the wedding and the one with Rosa and Marcus." "How about we go on a real date then?", suggested Gabriella. "Tonight."
"Sure. I'm all in.", agreed Troy with a smile. "We'll go to the precinct and after we will get dinner somewhere. It doesn't have to be fancy.", said Gabriella. "Yeah, it doesn't have to be.", chimed Troy in and offered his hand. Gabriella took it and both walked inside to go to their math class. If they knew what would happen this evening.
●●●
After school walked both teenagers to the Ninety Ninth precinct. They got to the fourth floor and went inside the bullpen straight to Gabriella's desk. "Hey Rosa!", said Troy and felt Rosa's glare. "Rosa, I know you don't like anyone wishing you a happy birthday, so crappy day to you.", said Charles Boyle, approaching Rosa's desk. "It's your birthday? Why didn't you say anything?", asked Troy confused. Gabriella pulled him aside. "She doesn't celebrate it so be quiet unless you want to end up dead.", with those words kept Troy his mouth shut. "Still too much.", said Rosa. "I assume you're not doing anything to celebrate tonight." "Anyone over the age of six celebrating a birthday should go to hell.", deadpanned Rosa. Gabriella send her friend a glare making her to chuckle. "So since you're free tonight, I need your help moving this old Ms. Pac-Man machine I just bought.", said Charles suggesting. "Why are you so obsessed with that game?", asked Troy slightly disgusted. "Because it's the sexiest video game ever. She's insatiable, Troy. Insatiable. Insatiable..." "Stop saying insatiable.", said Gabriella mad and threw a paper ball at him. "Anyway, I bought this old machine from a bar and I was hoping you'd help me move it." "You want me to go to a bar?", asked Rosa a very nervous Charles Boyle.
"You are obviously trying to get me to go to a surprise party. Did Marcus put you up to this?", she asked more intimidating making the two teenagers to stand up with them. "Calm down, Rosie.", mentioned Gabriella and went in front of Charles. "What? No, that's crazy talking. We just need to be there at exactly 9:45 p.m. and not a minute earlier. Also, there's a particular door I want us to enter through.", said Charles and walked away. "He's not a good liar.", mentioned Troy and laughed. "Definitely not."
●●●
Gabriella packed her stuff together with Troy. Both wanted to go out on a 'real' date but it seems like the squad had other plans. "Where are you going?", asked Jake the younger girl. "We're going out. Why?", she asked confused. Both were halfway through the bullpen. "Holt assigned you for the identity theft case. You're going with us to the stakeout.", said Jake excited and smiled. But Gabriella didn't smile back. She walked past him, right into her uncle's office. "I can't go.", she simply said and crossed her arms. "I assigned you for it so you're going. It's part of your training.", said Holt without looking from his paperwork. "Troy and I wanted to spend the evening together." "As on a date?", asked Raymond shocked and looked up. "You're too young to date." "I'm 15.", reminded Gabriella her uncle. "Like I said, too young." "Please don't make me go. If the others find out we're done.", begged the girl and even got on her knees. "You're going. You have no other choice.", said Raymond finally and dismissed his niece. "Fine. But I'm taking Troy with me.", said Gabriella angry and walked out.
"Are we going?", asked Troy. Gabriella took his hand ignoring the question and looked at Jake with a dead stare. "Come on, Jacob. We don't have time!", she shouted. Gabriella only ever called Jake by his full name whenever she was angry or mad. And boy was she mad.
●●●
Both teenagers sat in the back of the van together with Jake and Amy. They were observing Augustine. Gabriella didn't really cared about it so she didn't really pay much attention. "Why is he getting out here? I thought your C.I said the drop was happening in a park.", said Amy confused. "Maybe he's having dinner with his sidepiece first.", suggested Gabriella and rolled her eyes. "Augustine has the laptop with him. We should just arrest him right here." "No, the buyer's the bigger collar. We've got to follow him in and wait for the handoff.", said Jake, declining Amy's suggestion. Gabriella let out a big sigh at the word 'waiting'. She was so excited about her date. Troy seemed to be enjoying it. Being part of this was a whole new experience for him.
"Okay, if you're going in, I've heard this place has an amazing bone marrow custard. Not that I've ever had a bad one.", said Charles and laughed. "No. All right, let's go.", said Jake fast and prepared to leave. "No, wait, you both look like cops.", said Troy eyeing the outfits of the detectives. "He's right. We're never gonna blend in dressed like this.", agreed Amy and began to change her appearance a little. "Okay, there, how's that?" "Uh, I don't know. All I see is clothes hanging off a genderless blob.", said Jake and looked away. "You look fine.", said Gabriella and turned her head to Rosa. "Could she have your jacket?" "Sure.", said the older woman and gave her jacket. Gabriella helped Amy to put it on and styled it a little. "Liza would be proud, Gabs.", mentioned Troy with a small laugh.
"You think?", she asked and turned her head to Jake. "You need a jacket or something." "Well, Scully left his sports coat back there.", informed Boyle. "Oh, but it will never fit Jake's athletic body. Unless..." "No, I don't want to do that.", said Jake stern. "You have to.", kept Charles saying. "I'm not gonna do it." "You're doing it." "What? What do you have to do?", asked Amy annoyed. "Don Johnson it.", said Jake and rolled his eyes. "Don Johnson it!", shouted Boyle excited. "You two are so weird.", said Troy and laughed. Gabriella nodded in agreement and leaned her head on his shoulder.
●●●
"I'm sorry it's not how you imagined it.", whispered Gabriella to Troy. "Are you kidding? This is better than a restaurant!", he said excited and looked at her. She imagined something completely different. "For you it is. For me actually too but I'm just mad you know. I had it all planned out since lunch break.", complained Gabriella and frowned. "You're cute when you're mad.", mentioned Troy and kissed Gabriella's cheek making her to blush lightly. "I couldn't but to overhear your conversation. You two wanted to go out tonight?", asked Charles from the passenger seat. Both teenagers looked panicked at each other. "With some friends.", lied Gabriella quickly. "You're lying.", mentioned Rosa and laughed. "You turn red everytime you lie. It was going to be just the two of you, right?", she asked slightly concerned. Both teenagers just nodded in embarrassment. "I've been waiting for this! My High School Musical dreams are getting real!", shouted Charles in excitement. "Calm down Boyle.", said Troy with a weird expression. "Yeah, drop that thought.", chimed Gabriella in and leaned her head back on Troy's shoulder.
Rosa watched the two teens, not being happy about what they just confessed. They wanted to go on a date! Together! As a couple! That was completely insane for Rosa. Especially because of Josh and the things she heard about him. She definitely didn't want Troy to break her friend's heart too. And besides, Gabriella was too young to date anyway. The woman decided to drop the thought and turned her attention to Charles.
"Who else is going?", she asked, bringing up the party again. "Rosa, listen to me, there is no party. Just get off my doughnut already." "Don't lie to me, Boyle or you will be eating your bone marrow custard through a straw.", said Rosa, getting angry. "That's exactly how you're supposed to eat bone marrow--" "Listen to her Charles.", said Gabriella smiling. But it was already too late. Rosa had already punched him. "All right, there's a party.", confessed the man finally making Gabriella to punch him too. "It was supposed to be a secret you moron!", she said loud. "I told you he can't keep it for himself.", mentioned Troy while rubbing his head in frustration. "You two knew about it?", asked Rosa even more angry than before. "Charlie and Eliza too. We all were invited. But we can't give you any details.", said Troy fast and prepared himself not to get punched. "All I can say is I know you and I know you'll have a good time.", said Charles, taking over. "If you knew me, you'd know I hate surprise parties, so clearly you don't know me at all.", said Rosa with a sad expression that didn't go unnoticed by Gabriella.
"What? We're friends. I was building up to calling you "Ro-ro" one of these days." "That will never happen. In fact, you just lost "Rosa" privileges. From now on, you can call me "Diaz" or "Hey, you.", said the woman frustrated and kept looking outside not wanting to lose the target. "Come on, Rosa.", said Charles and got a look from Rosa. "Come on, hey you." "Rosie, don't be like that to Charles. He asked us to help with the party.", explained Gabriella quickly, leaning forward her best friend. "Don't call me "Rosie". You just lost that privilege too." "Fine, Diaz.", said Gabriella mad and sat back besides Troy. Rosa wasn't mad about the party, she was mad about Gabriella not telling her about the date with Troy.
Both girls trusted each other and it hurted Rosa that Gabriella didn't told her. It was like that secret meant more to her than their friendship. But that of course wasn't true. The younger girl knew about Rosa's overprotective big sister instincts and didn't want that to affect something with Troy. She was afraid that something might happen so it was better to be kept between the two teens. Gabriella never wanted to upset her best friend. That was never her intention.
●●●
The investigation was moving forward as the detectives were driving behind Augustine's car. Silence was between all of them until Charles spoke up. "So how was the restaurant?" "Such a normal time!", shouted Amy nervous, grabbing the attention. "Why are you being weird?", asked Troy interested. "Amy and I kissed.", confessed Jake quickly. "What?", asked Charles unbelievably. "To keep our cover from being blown; we didn't have a choice.", said Amy. Gabriella only scoffed. "Tell us everything!", shouted Boyle excited. "Charles, it was just a kiss, okay? It was for work. It was nothing.", said Jake kinda disappointed in his sentence. "Yeah, who cares about a kiss? Call me if you grab each other's asses.", said Rosa stern. "He's pulling over. It's going down.", informed Rosa her colleagues.
"You guys are so naive. It's never nothing. In high school I played Daddy Warbucks in Annie, Becca Murse played Annie and we were supposed to hug onstage. And at first, that seemed like nothing too but by opening night, we were full-on making out." "As Daddy Warbucks and Annie?", asked Gabriella disgusted and turned her head to Charles. "Mm-hmm. The audience was not on board. Playwright sued the school.", finished Charles his story and got a few giggles from the two teenagers. "Guys, guys, it's not a handoff. He's leaving the package.", said Rosa, grabbing the attention back on the case. "Okay, you, Rosa, Gabby and Troy follow Augustine." "Right and you and Amy follow your hearts.", teased Troy the two adults and high fived Gabriella. "No, we're gonna stay with the package.", said Jake disturbed. "And each other forever." "Come on, Boyle!", said Gabriella and punched his arm again, earning a chuckle from Rosa.
●●●
"We can't pull him over this close to the drop side. It'll alert the buyer.", mentioned Rosa as they were driving behind Augustine. Gabriella leaned on the two front seats. "I say we follow him for a mile.", she suggested while looking at the car in front of them. "Copy that.", said Charles and turned his attention to Rosa. "How's your mom enjoying the new phone you got her for her birthday on March 16th?" "Oh right. Is she okay with it? I thought we could've bought her a different model.", chimed Gabriella in and eyed her best friend while fist bumping Charles in secret. "Guys, stop saying random facts to try to prove you know me." "That's not what we're doing. We're simply making small talk with our friend Rosa, who went skydiving once.", defended Gabriella herself and Charles. "You did skydiving? Cool!", said Troy from his place and moved besides Gabriella. "Enough! I'm going to the dumb party but only because I don't want to hurt Marcus. I'm still super mad at you two.", said Rosa making the younger girl to smirk at Charles. "Mm, like how you're still super mad at Gilmore Girls for how the finale went down?", asked the man, knowing about how the woman felt. "Oh, I just wanted to see Lorelai happy and shut up!", shouted Rosa and threw a bag of Cheetos at Charles. The man ducked so that Troy could catch the package. He opened it, offering some to Gabriella. "Ah, see? I know you so well, I knew it was co--ah!", shouted Charles as Rosa threw a water bottle at him but this time she actually got him.
●●●
After hours of chasing, the case was finally done. Jake and Amy caught the guy and brought Troy and Gabriella home. The young couple then decided to go drink a milkshake and to share some fries at the local diner.
Both sat down in a booth and got their orders very quickly. Probably because it was just them and another couple. "I'm sorry this wasn't how you imagined a first date to be.", apologized Gabriella and ate some fries. Troy only chuckled. "It was better than a normal date. I enjoyed it to be with you and see how your training is going. Plus, I found out that Rosa has watched Gilmore Girls which my mom would totally like." "Oh my God she will!", laughed Gabriella along. The boy put his hand on top of the girl's and looked in her eyes. A smile made it's way on his lips. He could stare at her all day without getting tired and she could do the same. Both enjoyed each other's presence which was great. But could they be more than just friends? Troy wanted to find out. He leaned over the table and connected his lips with Gabriella's. He expected rejection but instead she kissed him back. The kiss was long and sweet and her lips still tasted like strawberries. Troy then pulled away and looked at Gabriella. She was staring at him with wide eyes before bursting out in laughter. "Wanna go out on a second date?", he asked quickly. "I would love to.", she answered while taking a sip from her chocolate milkshake.
What both teenagers didn't knew was that someone was watching them. Someone who Gabriella knew from work and was very close to.
●●●
Rosa stood outside of the Jinx family's apartment. She wanted to apologize to Gabriella about her behavior earlier. The young girl opened the door and was surprised to see her best friend. "Hey you.", she said and laughed nervous. "Come in." "Thanks.", said Rosa and walked inside, putting her helmet down. "Rosa!", shouted a familiar voice. The woman found herself getting a big hug by Annabelle Jinx, the youngest daughter of Tyler and Samantha. "Happy Birthday to you!", she sang and giggled. Rosa picked the little child up and walked over to Gabriella's room. She sat down on the bed with Annabelle on her lap letting her play with her hands. It was an adorable scene that Troy took a picture of. "I saw that!", said Rosa in a intimidating way but it only made the boy laugh.
Gabriella walked inside her room with a piece of chocolate cake and a fork. "Here.", she said, handing it to Rosa. She let Annabelle down besides her and took the cake. "Gabby bought you presents!", shouted the child excited and laughed. "Presents?", asked the Latina confused and eyed her best friend. "It's just something small but I hope you like it.", said Gabriella and gave Rosa a box. The older woman opened it and was in awe. A brand new leather jacket with a keychain in the form of a axe. "Happy birthday Rosie. My best friend in the whole world.", said Gabriella and smiled brightly. Rosa pulled the younger girl into a tight hug, feeling Gabriella to hug her back.
"She was excited about buying you a present.", mentioned Samantha Jinx from the door frame. Annabelle ran to her mother and hugged her tightly. Samantha picked up her daughter, placing her on her hip. "Your old one was already a little broken so I thought you might need a new one.", explained Gabriella while still hugging Rosa. The woman smiled at the gesture. "You want to have dinner with us? It's a special birthday menu tonight.", said Tyler and winked at Gabriella making her laugh. Rosa looked at her friend who already had her puppy eyes ready. "I would love to.", she said and walked with Gabriella besides her to the dining table in the living room.
This was probably one of Rosa's best birthdays. Not only because she got a surprise party which wasn't a party but also because she celebrated with Gabriella and her family. This dinner was unforgettable for Rosa and she was happier than ever.
●●●
"Squad, if I could have your attention please?", asked Raymond Holt the next day at the precinct. Gabriella looked up from the files she was discussing with Rosa and Charles. "I am being transferred to the public relations office. I'm leaving the Nine-Nine effective immediately." "What the hell?", asked Gabriella shocked and walked over to Amy. "I don't understand.", said Jake confused. "What the hell?", asked Amy panicked. "Why are you doing this?", asked Charles Boyle also confused. "What the hell?", shouted both Gabriella and Amy together. Both girls then side hugged each other for comfort and support. "I want to say it has been a pleasure to have worked alongside all of you for the past 21 1/2 months. I'm sorry I'm getting so emotional.", said Raymond and looked at his niece who had already tears forming in her eyes.
"A pretty consistent tone, actually.", added Jake. "This have been the--these have been the best years of my career." "Oh no. This is new.", whispered Jake scared. "And I know that everyone of you gave me everything you had and I will never forget it.", finished Raymond his speech. "Go back to being robot captain.", demanded Jake immediately. "Meep-morp. Zeet.", laughed Raymond, trying to hide his emotions. But Gabriella couldn't. "You can't leave.", she said suddenly, grabbing his attention. "I need you here, uncle Ray. What about my training?" "Your training will continue. Don't worry about that. You will do great.", he said and mentioned for his niece to hug him. The girl didn't hesitate and ran towards him. Raymond embraced his niece in a tight hug, letting her to cry. "Please come back as soon as possible.", she whispered and walked back to Amy. The Latina gave her a tissue and side hugged her again. It broke Raymond's heart to see his niece that way but he had to do it. He couldn't let Wuntch to transfer her somewhere else with people she didn't knew and people he definitely didn't trust. "Dismissed.", he said, clearing his throat and began to walk away. "Sir.", shouted Gina Linetti. "I'm coming with you." "Thank you, Gina.", he said in a glad tone. "I'm also coming.", said Scully smiling. "Not necessary.", said Holt and walked out with Gina.
Amy then left Gabriella and walked off with Jake. The girl didn't care about what they were doing, she only cared about her uncle. Everything was going to change and she didn't like that. "Come here.", said Rosa and embraced the younger girl. She started to stroke her hair and comforting her together with the squad. It helped a little knowing that other people cared. "Hey guys, the new captain is here.", mentioned Terry and got everyone to the elevator. Rosa took Gabriella's hand in hers while Jake took her other hand. Both squeezed them tight, mentioning to her that it was all good. "Who do you think it's gonna be?", she asked nervous. "I have no idea.", said Terry. "I bet it's me. I just hope I'm ready.", predicted Hitchcock and earned weird looks from his colleagues. "Wow.", said Rosa unbelievably at the words of the older man. "Come on, guys. I know you're sad but let's do our best to make a good first impression here." "Smart. Good call.", agreed Charles with Terry. "Jake, you be up front.", he said and made Jake to let go of Gabriella's hand. She just glared at him but turned her attention to the elevator as the bell rang. She just hoped the new captain wasn't a pain in the ass. "Okay, here we go."
