Get mad independent and don't you ever forget it"

"Ant...ant...ant...God they're everywhere.", said Jake making Gabriella to look up at him as she was watching Amy do her files. A part from her training was paper work sadly. The girl always complained about how useless it was, making all the detectives to laugh at her in amusement. They enjoyed it whenever Gabriella got angry or frustrated at something because she then began to curse or throw stuff around. Rosa found it especially funny because she did the same thing. "Are we sure that we've cleaned up all the food?", as Jake asked that, the whole squad looked at the eldest detectives in the room.
"Why is everyone looking at us? We're the ones who eat up all the crumbs.", said Scully defending himself and Hitchcock. "Yeah, we're the solution.", said Hitchcock agreeing with his best friend. "Well, there are no ants on my desk because I sanitize it daily.", said Amy bragging. "So that's where did the sanitizer go.", said Gabriella realizing making Amy to give her a playfully frown. "What do you call that?", asked Jake interrupting the two girls. "Ah! Those are your ants! They're using a monitor cable as a land bridge.", said the Latina disgusted and moved her desk away from Jake's. "Now they're destroying our technology.", said Gabriella and looked at Jake. "This is an invasion.", said both together and looked serious at each other.
"They're in my yogurt. Now it's personal.", said the Sergeant angry and pointed to his yogurt. "All right, that's it. We have gotta fight back. This is our planet!", shouted Jake and looked at Gabriella. "Too much?" "Too much.", she answered fast. "Just use Boyle's cologne. It's repulsive to everything.", said Gina and threw the small glass bottle on the floor, leaving it to break. "It smells gross!", said Gabriella and closed her nose with two fingers, trying to protect it from the evil smell. "The ant infestation?", asked Raymond Holt as he walked out of his office. "It's bad. They bite now, sir.", complained Terry while trying to get the ants away from him. "I think they're just trying to avoid the cold weather. We should freeze them out.", said Holt making Gabriella to look shocked at him. She hated the cold!
Gabriella Peréz was wrapped in her big jacket, together with a scarf and a hat. She sat on Amy's lap, just so she could protect not only herself but also the older Latina woman. "The plan is working uncle Ray.", shouted Gabriella through the cold, making herself to cuddle further into Amy. "Yes, we won.", said Holt not daring to move. "Oh my God. They're in the coats.", said Gina realizing. "They're in our coats!", said Jake screaming. Everyone then began to get off their jackets, hats, scarfs and gloves. "I hate winter!"

Rosa and Gabriella walked inside Holt's office. "Deputy Chief Wuntch is here to see you.", said Gabriella and let the woman to walk inside. "Oh, please stay Diaz, Peréz. I need witnesses in case her head starts spinning around or she turns into a she-wolf.", said Holt making Gabriella to giggle. "Hello Raymond." "No flaccid rejoinder? What's going on?", asked the younger girl suspicious. "I'm here on important business. I'm a frontrunner for a job in the Boston PD.", explained Wuntch. "Boston? But it's so close to Salem. Don't you know what they do to witches there?", asked Holt and fist bumped his youngest member. "This is amazing.", said Rosa with an awkward smile. "The job is Chief of Police." "I see. You've come to brag." "No. The only blemish on my record is our long history of interpersonal turbulence.", said Wuntch and sat down in front of Raymond.
"The Boston commissioner wants to speak with you about it. I've come to ask for your help. The commissioner will be calling--" "Wait. Shh...oh. Moment savored. So, where were we?", asked Holt interrupting Wuntch. "Oh, she was talking about how you're holding her fate in the palm of your hand.", explained Gabriella and walked out of the office. But before that, she went closer to Wuntch whispering in her ear. "Good luck. You will need it.", and with that, Gabriella Peréz walked out, making her way towards Amy Santiago and Charles Boyle.

The younger girl watched Amy and Charles doing their files as Gina Linetti approached Boyle's desk. "Oopsie.", she said and threw her milkshake on Charles's pants making him gasping together with Amy and Gabriella. "Gina, what the hell?", asked the detective in training shocked. "I'm sorry. I lost my balance.", answered Gina sarcastic. "You think I'm bothered by a little spilled milkshake? I'm a food blogger, I'm stained all over.", said Charles defending himself. "Okay, what is going on with you two?", asked Amy clearly bothered by the behavior of the two adults. "You know how our parents have been tender-sexing each other?", asked Charles. Amy then held Gabriella's ears shut. "Ew.", said the younger girl and removed the older Latina's hands away from her. "Precisely, Gabby bear. Ew. Boyle and I made a pact to break them up, and now this sticky little gummy bear is backing out.", explained Gina mad.
"Look, I know you don't want our lives intertwined, but things have changed. My father wants to marry your mom.", said Charles making Gabriella to smile. "Oh my goodness, Charles that's amazing! Congratulations!", she said excited and hugged the older man, forgetting about the spilled milkshake. "So you choose your dad over me, your coworker who hates you." "Papa's a gentleman. He won't propose until he gets Gina's blessing and she won't give it to him.", said Charles making Gabriella to frown. "Who says "papa"? Are you a little French boy?", asked Gina and began to slowly argue with Charles. "I think maybe I can help. I took a seminar on conflict resolution and...I have been waiting weeks to bust this bad boy out. Mm. New binder smell.", said Amy and smelled on the binder. Gabriella only giggled at her friend's action. She was indeed somehow different.
"Amy don't do this. I'm gonna throw a milkshake in your face." "Gina! Leave Amy alone.", said Gabriella and got in front of Amy. "I will Gabby bear but you better change. Your whole outfit got milkshake stanes all over it.", said Gina and pointed to the clothes of the girl with her finger moving it from top to bottom. "Damn it! This was my favorite outfit!", said the younger girl frustrated and went over to her backpack. She always carried some extra clothes for emergencies. "Gonna go change real quick!", she said and went to the bathroom.

Gabriella Valencia Peréz finished putting on her new clothes and walked over to the sink to wash her hands. She looked at the mirror for a second and saw her mother's face. She definitely had her eyes, hair and nose. But her eyebrows are totally her dad's. People sometimes told her how much she resembled her dad's character and she loved to hear that. It made her proud. Gabriella lost herself in her reflection. She began to touch her face, taking every part of it in.
For the first time in years she actually realized how much alike she looked with her mom. Gabriella smiled to herself and noticed a person coming inside the restroom. "Hello Rosie.", she said smiling. "I searched everywhere for you little dum dum.", said Rosa out of breath. "I had to change quickly. What's going on?" "Holt wants to speak to us in his office.", explained Rosa. "Okay, let me just put my hair in a quick ponytail.", said Gabriella and got out her hair tie ready. Rosa then snatched it away from her and went behind the short girl. "I will do it.", said the older woman stern. Gabriella only nodded her head. Rosa then began to pull the brown locks of Gabriella into a ponytail. "Your hair is really soft. How?" "It's natural. Got it from my mom.", said Gabriella giggling. By the mention of the word "mom" her heart became heavy. "And done. Now let's go.", said Rosa and took Gabriella's hand leading her to Holt's office.
The girl constantly touched her ponytail, twirling it around her fingers. Nobody has ever really helped her to do her hair. Nobody except Rosa. Rosa Diaz always tried to help Gabriella no matter what. She never really helped anyone. But Gabriella Peréz was different. She always brought her joy and made her laugh or smile. Rosa felt as if it was her duty to help and protect her. That's what she did. And Gabriella appreciated it a lot.

"I am grappling with a highly vexing conundrum.", said Holt as both Rosa and Gabriella sat down in front of him. "What to do about Deputy Chief Wuntch?", asked Gabriella. "Precisely. I could torpedo her promotion. Just saying it brims my soul with joy. But to do so would mean that she stays in New York City hanging over me like an albino bat. On the other hand if I "praise" Wuntch, she will leave this city, the clouds will part and the children will sing "Wuntch is Gone.", explained Holt his options.
"What children?", asked Gabriella confused. "All the children including you.", said Holt and looked at his niece. "That was a stupid question.", said Rosa quickly. "Hey!", shouted Gabriella and punched her best friend's arm making her smile lightly. "What was Sarge's advice?", asked Rosa again. "The three of us know what Mother Jeffords would say. "Take the high road." But I asked you both, detective Diaz and junior detective in training Valencia, because you both understand...vengeance.", explained Holt making both Gabriella and Rosa to look at him with evil smiles. Well just Gabriella.
"Yes, we do.", said Gabriella still smiling devilish. "I had a nemesis once Carla Bianchi. She wronged me and I crushed her like a gnat between my fingers. I got her suspended from the second grade.", explained Rosa. "Second grade?", asked Gabriella concerned. "That little turd hoarded all the good markers." "Damn, I'm glad we didn't went together to school!", Rosa ignored Gabriella's comment and continued to tell her story. "But eventually she came back to school. And she made the next ten years of my life miserable. It's not worth it. Be nice to Wuntch." "Be nice to Wuntch?" You may go now, Mother Diaz.", said Holt and then turned his attention to his niece.
"Do you have any advices for me?", he asked. "Be kind to unkind people. They need it the most.", said Gabriella and looked straight into his eyes. "That was beautiful." "Thanks uncle Ray. I'm no Mother Teresa. I'm God herself.", said the youngest member of the squad and dismissed herself, leaving Raymond Holt and Rosa Diaz impressed behind.
●●●
"Hello Gina.", said Gabriella loud as Charles closed the door in the break room. "Ah! What are you creeps doing? You made me look away from my phone. You better pray I didn't miss a text.", said Gina threatening while walking slowly towards the younger girl. "In your two seconds you looked away?", asked Amy confused. "You shouldn't have asked that!", whispered Gabriella now standing next to her. "17 texts. All of them important.", said Gina while holding her phone up for the three to see. "Amy suggested we negotiate terms, so if you agree to give my dad his blessing, here's what I'll do for you.", said Boyle and got out a list. "You will never see me in my pajamas on a family trip. We will never share a bunk bed. And I won't force you to participate in our annual themed Christmas cards. This year my dad was Mary and I was the baby Jesus."
"Yeah, I know. Got one. Lived the nightmare.", said Gina. "Well, the list goes on. I signed it. Amy notarized it.", said Charles and held up the peace of paper. "I'm a notary. No big deal. I met the comptroller." "Like you said Amy. No big deal.", said Gabriella and earned a glare from the older woman. "Okay, you know what? This isn't about our lives getting intertwined, okay?" "Then what is it about Gin?", asked Gabriella interested. "I'm worried about my mom 'cause she's been hurt before. This is all moving way too fast.", explained Gina. "Wow. Gina." "That's really sweet.", said Charles. "And the only reason I didn't tell you guys is 'cause I don't value you as people except my dearest Gabby bear, so it's like why be honest?" "Yeah, you just went back and ruined what you said.", said Charles. "I don't think so. I value you as a person too Gin.", said the younger girl honest and hugged Gina which she surprisingly allowed.
"Look, I know I'm a stage-five player, just mowing down chicks left and right, but my dad's not like that. He would never hurt your mom. Just talk to him, you'll see.", said Charles and moved his gaze to Gabriella who understood his gesture. "I agree with Boyle, Gina. It's better to talk to people then judging them.", said the younger girl and looked at her friend. "Fine. I'll talk to him. Just ask him some questions, go get him before I change my mind.", said Gina Linetti finally agreeing. "Okay." "Oh, I already changed my mind. All right, I'm back. I'm back.", she said finally.
Charles then opened the door, allowing Gabriella and Amy to go out first. "Gabby! Wait.", he shouted behind the girl. Gabriella turned around only to be embraced in a tight hug. "Thank you for trying!", whispered Charles Boyle. The junior detective in training smiled and hugged the man back. "Everything for my friends Charles. Everything."

"Well, Diaz, Peréz, the deed is done.", said Holt as Rosa and Gabriella walked inside his office. "You torpedoed her promotion?", asked the young girl. "Sadly, no. I gave that goblin a good recommendation. Your story Diaz, about the market turd really hit me. I began to realize that if even you thought I should take the high road, that was probably the right choice.", explained Holt. Gabriella looked at her older friend. "We're sorry you didn't get your vengeance...Mother Holt.", said Rosa on behalf of Gabriella. "Good one.", said Holt making Gabriella to fist bump Rosa. "But I am still planning to get some retribution. I got her a parting gift." "Tickets to Wicked?", asked Gabriella as she looked over at the two peaces papers her best friend held and rose an eyebrow.
"In Boston. She's moving to a second-class city and I wanted to run her nose in it. Enjoy the understudies, Madeleine. Have fun watching some chubby Chenoweth knock-off warble her way through Popular.", finished Holt his explanation. "Yeah, I'm not sure. This will have consequences.", said Gabriella concerned and walked out of the office, making her way towards the interrogation room where Amy and Boyle were waiting for her.
●●●
"This is a bad idea.", said Gabriella as she crossed her arms. "No, it's okay. Dad's got this. He's a real sweet talker.", said Boyle confident in his father. Gabriella send him a small smile, admiring how much trust he's putting into his dad. "Let's cut the crap.", said Gina straight. "What are your intentions with my mother?" "To make love to her every morning until we die.", said Lynn Boyle. "So it's just physical?", asked Gina sceptical. "What are you nuts? I'm a divorced, retired florist with a terrible gluten allergy. Your mom is a beautiful, brilliant travel agent. She talks to people on the phone who've seen the whole world. I'll never meet anyone half as good as her. She's the best thing that ever happened to me.", explained Boyle's father. Gabriella truly felt his speech. He touched her heart without realizing it, making a small tear to roll down her cheek. She whipped it away and smiled.
"You mean other than Charles?", asked Gina. Lynn took a minute to think. "No. She's the best thing that ever happened to me.", he answered. The younger girl turned to her older friend, putting a hand on his shoulder. "That's okay, Pop. You did what you had to do.", said Charles still confident. "You okay?", asked Gabriella. "Totally.", answered Charles quickly. Gabriella didn't believed it but decided to leave it anyway. "I love her. All I want is to make her happy forever.", finished Lynn Boyle. "Fine. I give you my blessing.", said Gina making Amy, Charles and Gabriella to celebrate silently their small victory. "But if you ever hurt my mom in any way, so help me God, I will cut off your son's testicles. Snip, snip. I'm not joking.", promised Gina and made some scissors noises. "Deal.", said Lynn Boyle and shook hands with Gina Linetti. "Way to go, Dad! You bagged a babe.", shouted Charles in happiness.
"The Boyle boys are planning a wedding and best part? Gabriella is the flower girl!" "Wait what?", asked Gabriella shocked. "Boyle boys! Boyle boys! Boyle boys!", shouted Boyle together with his father. "What do you mean that I'm the flower girl?", asked the younger girl while watching her friends leave. "Charles!"
●●●
Gabriella, Troy, Charlie and Eliza sat together at a table at Shaw's with Amy and Rosa. "A thank-you round of drinks and a toast to Amy and Gabby. Your conflict resolution skills and your power over Gina have made my childhood dreams come true. I'm gonna be a ring bearer.", said Charles and put down three beers and four cokes. "You don't think your dad will make you best man?", asked Troy and took a sip from his coke. "Oh, I just assumed he'd ask Jake.", said Charles honestly making Charlie to stifle a laugh. "Mm. Move over, please. I do have a wedding to plan. 'Cause if this thing is happening, it's not going to be a Boyle brothers event. Liza? Charlie? You two wanna help?", asked Gina the two teenagers. "We thought you'd ask Gabriella and Troy.", said Eliza confused. "Gabby bear is my dearest flower girl and Troy boy is her helping hand.", explained Gina.
"Wait...Gabby is the flower girl?", asked Charlie and began to laugh together with Eliza and Troy. "Ha ha! Little dum dum in a dress!", laughed Rosa and earned a punch from Gabriella in response. "For starters, all the bridesmaids are gonna be dressed like Roseanne from the television show.", started Gina. "Oh, I love that show.", said Charles optimistic. "A certified shaman will conduct the ceremony, and the ring bearer will be an actual wolf." "Oh man, I could do it, but I wouldn't be as majestic on all fours.", said Charles. "Or Troy could be the ring bearer.", suggested Gabriella. "In a wolf costume!", added Eliza making her best friend to laugh. "This wedding sounds weird. I'm into it.", said Rosa and put an arm around Gabriella, pulling her away from Troy who had his arm around her shoulders.
"To Lynn and Darlene Boyle.", said Amy raising her beer. "And to the flower girl Gabriella!", added Troy. "Cheers!", they all said in unison. "That was for the wolf joke mi princesa.", whispered Troy in Gabriella's ear and kissed her cheek lightly making her to blush. "Touché mi príncipe.", said Gabriella back and smiled flirty at her best friend. Rosa saw and heard it. And she didn't like that at all!
