Marriage (PearlShipping)
This is for the final prompt of the PPE which is hosted by @ezance: marriage!! I definitely enjoyed PPE--- it inspired me to get writing--- and I'll definitely participate in other events like it in the future! I've also got a small question... if I wrote a FondantShipping AU, would anyone read it? I already know 1crazyslider would, but I'm wondering if anyone else would. Anyway, let's get to the oneshot!
----------------------------------------
Your wedding day was supposed to be the happiest day of your life. But Dawn didn't feel particularly happy--- all she felt was nervous. What if something went wrong? What if she tripped over the hem of her wedding dress, or she forgot how to say "I do", or Ash --- Arceus forbid! --- left her at the altar.
"It will be fine," May said, trying to calm her. "Dawn, you love Ash, right?"
She nodded vigorously. Of course she loved Ash!
"Then it's gonna be fine! He wouldn't care if you messed up or anything--- trust me, he loves you a lot."
Dawn knew this--- she just couldn't help but worry.
"Think of it like a contest... wait, you don't get stage fright, do you?"
Dawn was saved from answering by a knock on the door of the bathroom-turned-changing room. "Stay where you are," May said to Dawn. "I haven't finished styling your hair yet, and I'm scared it'll get messed up if you move." She then made her way to the door. Dawn was so glad May was her bridesmaid.
Suddenly, Dawn's mother burst through the door, a hurricane of parental pride. She grabbed Dawn and pulled her into a bone crushing hug. "Mother... stop... I can't... breathe."
Dawn's mother let go, looking at Dawn with an expression as radiant as the sun. "I'm sorry, Dawn, I just couldn't help it! My baby is getting married!" She turned to May and squealed, "Can you believe it, May? My baby is getting married!"
May grinned in response, and Dawn felt some of her nerves disappear. Her mother's excitement was catching.
"Anyway, I better go. The ceremony starts soon, and I want my baby to look her best for her big day!" Squealing, Dawn's mother left.
"Is she always like that?" May asked, beginning to restyle Dawn's hair.
"Thankfully, no. I don't know what's gotten into her today. She's not acting like herself."
"Guess she's excited," May said, and Dawn could feel her shrug.
"You can say that again."
May was quiet, concentrating on Dawn's hair. Now that the friendly chatter was gone, Dawn found her nerves returning. She wondered idly was Ash would look like, and if his mother had acted the same way as hers, and felt a little bit better. Everything would turn out fine, even if the ceremony was a complete mess. After all, it was Ash she was getting married to.
Soon, it was go time. Dawn's pulse quickened with anticipation, and when it was time to walk down the aisle, she could barely hear what was being said. She saw Ash. and forgot about everything else.
He cleaned up well--- and he looked so dashing in his suit that Dawn's heart skipped a beat. She almost tripped over her own feet, as she was not focused on where she was going.
She now stood under the arch, Ash standing beside her.
"Dawn Berlitz, do you take this man, Ash Ketchum, to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
Her lips were numb with fear and excitement, and it was hard to speak."I do."
"Ash Ketchum, do you take this woman, Dawn Berlitz, to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
"I do."
"You may now kiss the bride."
The kiss was loving and passionate. It was a promise. It was new beginning.
And Dawn didn't feel so nervous anymore.
