This is for the Pokemon Positivity Event, which is hosted by @ezance. The prompt was symbolism. It's not exactly a one-shot, but I don't know where else to put it... I'll probably make separate books for future events, but it's too late with PPE now. I wasn't sure what the prompt meant, but... poems are full of symbolism, right?

For years

They did not know what love was

They went on dreaming

Went on hoping

Went on pretending that

They knew the warmth

Of a lover's kiss

Of a mother's embrace

Of a father's praise

Meetin each other for the first time was not like in the stories

There were no fireworks to symbolize their love

No explosions

No sparks

There were just a few words

And a small smile

They grew older

And things changed

They made new friends

They left the old

They moved through life, each the other's constant

Each the other's rock

It grew dark

Every day was a constant quest for 

An unreachable goal

They almost gave up

Almost decided to swim down instead of up

But they clung together

Like the other was a life vest

And eventually they began to float

The sun rose

And they found that they did not need

To reach the unreachable goal

They found that they

Already had all the friends they needed

A boy and his Pokemon

A talking cat

and

Most importantly

Each other

Now they are a houseboat

Full of warm cozy light

And the warmth of home

They don't need to pretend they know love anymore

Because now

They do
