Chapter Seven.

A Letter To Jade From The Past.

Three Months Later.

Have you ever felt that something is missing in your life and if you had the chance you would go and get it?

That's what Jade felt every day but she couldn't let herself tell her parents about her feelings.

It is not that she didn't want to but Jade didn't want to look ungrateful to them, especially to her sister who took her in and accepted her as her sister.

The wonderful family that took her in when her own family turned their back on her. Even though she was still a kid when they left, she always remembered how she looked for them.

Whenever she saw how Maya acted with their father, she felt something in her that seemed to be buried the day her blood left her without looking back just to see if she was alright.

To get closure, she needs to find them and ask them why they left her at the mall instead of an orphanage.

Jade needed closure more than anything else. She needs to let go of the past that has been haunting her mind ever since she received a letter from someone who knows her. Even though she changed her last name.

"Are you alright, Jay?", her sister Maya asks her.

For the past few days, Jade has been absent-minded and this wasn't something that would go unnoticed by Maya.

"Don't you dare say that you are fine. So spill now", Maya added knowing that the word 'fine' would be on her sister's lips.

Maya has always treated her as her sister and severly dislikes the word 'adopted'.

She has always considered Jade her sister and who she is.

Jade decided to show her the letter she had received for almost a week and that was unopened.

"Do you want to open it?", Maya asks her sister who looked more confused than she has ever been seeing a letter from someone who knows her, and yet her sister hasn't even opened it. "What are you waiting for, Jay?", Maya added.

"I want to open it with everyone including mamma and dad too. I want them here when I read it. Besides whoever sent this letter is wasting their time if they think that they will come and disrupt my life", Jade answers her.

"I completely agree with you, Jay. But what if the person who sent you the letter appears then what will you do? You can't ignore them forever, sis. Some day you will have to face them...."

"And when that happens you guys will be right behind me. My real family. The family who will never abandoned me", Jade interrupts her.

This made Maya happy knowing that no one can take that away from either of them.

The two sisters decided to tell their family about the letter that Jade had gotten. But she was also nervous about the letter contained.

They both went to see their parents at their home and decided that it was time to let them know about the letter that Jade had received from her past.

Her parents abandoned her without giving her a single thought to see if she was alive or not.

"Asalam Aleikum, Mamma. Where's dad?", Maya asks her mother who was in the kitchen preparing dinner for the four of them.

"Waleikum salaam. He is in his office preparing for tomorrow's session with a troublesome teen. Whats wrong, my girls?", Layla asks her daughters.

"I think we should wait until we are done with dinner then we will tell you. Don't worry it isn't something bad...."

"Let me guess, you and Rocco and getting engaged and I will win the...."

"Layla...Stop talking before you get yourself in trouble with our daughters", Jason interrupts her before she could make a mistake by telling her daughters about the bet she had with her brother.

Layla bet that Maya will accept Rocco and will get married while Naeem bet that Maya will take her time and give Rocco a chance by being just friends for a while.

"No, dad. Let mamma speak. Tell us mamma, what is it that you are talking about?", Maya asks her mother who was trying not to look at her daughters.

"It is nothing, girls. Jade will you help Maya set the table please?", Layla asks her daughters while Jason took her hand and dragged her to his office.

"What was that, Lay? I mean you almost made Maya know about what you and your brother are doing....."

"Well, I wanted to win because he will buy me the books that I want especially the new ones. Plus, he always does this. Come on, you know that you also want them together...."

"Layla, I love you and our daughters but if he hurts her again then I will have to hurt him and it wouldn't be pretty. They are our world and you know how much they mean to us", Jason tells his wife.

"Okay, fine. Then help me win the bet so that our daughters will be happy. And I love you too. Now, lets go and eat", Layla tells her husband smiling.

As they opened the door and walked to the dining room, their daughters looked at them mischievously at their parents.

"Jade, I think we came at the wrong time. It seems that mamma and dad are still in the stage of romancing and we rudely interrupted them, right sis?", Maya asks her sister grinning.

"I can romance with your mother as she is my wife. And no one can stop us from being together and also being in love", Jason tells them making Layla blush.

"Okay, that's enough", Layla tells them while they all take a sit on the chairs. "After eating, the girls have something to tell us, Jason", she added.

After they all finished their lunch, the four of them sat down in the living room while Layla served them the chocolate cake that Jade had brought them.

"Mamma, dad. I have something to tell you. You are the best parents that any child could ever wish for. I love you guys so much", Jade tells her parents who looked at each other feeling like this was the day they have been dreading. "There a letter that someone sent me. I haven't opened it yet because I want to open it with my family beside me. Here is the letter. Dad, you open it", she added handing the letter to Jason.

"Jade, I think you should open it by yourself as its your letter. You are our daughter always remember that. We are with you, always", Jason tells her smiling.

Jade knew that the people who are with her would never let her down no matter what she will go through with her past.

"But, I am scared, mamma..."

"I know but don't forget that you need closure in your life. Now as your dad said, we are with you no matter what the letter says, we are still your family", Layla assures her daughter Jade.

Jade took a deep breath and opened the letter. She started reading it out loud for her family to hear what it said.

Dear Jade,

I know that I have no right to contact you as I left you at the mall. I am sorry for that, I hope that you can find it in your heart to forgive me and your father.

Your father died a few years ago with a heavy heart. He wanted to look for you but every time he wasn't successful. He still thought of you, my daughter.

I know that now I have no right to call you that because I abandoned you. I miss you, and I blame myself for what I did to you.

I have no right to ask you for anything, especially when now you have people who love and care for you.

A family that you always wanted to have. Alhamdullilah for that.

I wish to see you, Jade but that's up to you and not me. And for you to meet someone who is a part of me and your father.

A younger brother.

I am writing this letter to explain what I did to you all those years ago and to ask you to forgive me and maybe just maybe for you to take care of your brother.

His name is Maher and he is 15 years old.

If you want to meet me, I will write the address at the end of this letter. There's another reason why I am writing this is that I am sick and I don't have much time left on this earth.

I hope and pray that I will get to see you even if it is just one last time.

Your mother who abandoned you,

Warda.

After reading the letter Layla had tears in her eyes for her daughter Jade who didn't deserve this. But she also knew that her daughter needed closure from the people who abandoned her without thinking twice and now she has a younger brother.

A brother that needed her.

"Jade, what are you feeling?", her father asks her when he sees her not saying anything. "Take your time before you decide anything. We will always be here for you no matter what your choices are", he added smiling at her.

"I am confused. Why would they leave me and then have another child? Why would they do this to me? Why, mamma?", Jade cries in her mother's arms while tears start to fall down her face.

"She is the only one who can answer that question, habibty. As your dad said, take your time. But remember that we are still your parents no matter what your choice is", Layla assures her daughter.

Maya moves closer to her sister and gave her a hug that she knew Jade needed.

"I am here Jay, always. You are my sister. Blood or not. That doesn't matter to me", Maya tells her wiping Jade's tears.

"Thank you for being here with me. I love you guys, always. You are my family", Jade tells them.

Jade knew that she needed to decide what she will do next as closure to her. But she will need someone with her.

She will need someone who isn't Maya to accompany her to visit the woman who abandoned her and to see her brother.

Why?

Because Maya had her own life to worry about and about Rocco.

I know who to ask but will they accompany me or not? I hope so.
