Chapter One.
Forgotten Memories.
Many people would want to forget some things that someone did to them or even they did themselves. Sometimes, it's better to forget than to remember anything that hurt us in our past.
Most people would think that being adopted is a bad thing but for Jade, it became the best thing that could have happened to her.
Why?
She got loving parents and an amazing sister who would do anything for her and considers her to be her real sister and not an adopted one.
But for Jade always felt like a part of her is missing in her life.
It couldn't be her future as it was already set for her.
It couldn't be her dream, which she is already fulfilling with the help of her family.
It is her past, the childhood memories that she always remembers, and sometimes she just wants to forget yet she couldn't even if she tries too hard to.
The one memory that Jade hasn't forgotten was the day her parents just left her at the mall without even caring if she will be okay or found.
Jade has never forgotten that faithful day as it is edged in her mind as well as her heart.
Some people will say that a child might not remember most of their childhood but not Jade as she remembers everything that happened that day.
Flashback to About 18 Years Ago.
A little girl with her parents walking down the street skipping on the pavement. But what the little girl didn't know was that this was the last day that she will ever be with her parents smiling.
"Mama can we go to the ice cream place, please?", little Jade asks her mother.
"Okay but first you have to be a good girl. Let's go and get you the ice cream you want, my baby", her father answered her by leading her inside the mall beside her favorite park.
Her parents then asked her to wait inside the ice cream place but what Jade didn't know was that her parents no longer want her.
She had become a burden for them to handle as they couldn't take care of her anymore.
Jade's mother wanted to take her to the orphanage but her husband decided against it because it would involve the authorities which he didn't want.
Jade took a seat inside the ice cream place waiting for her parents while eating her favorite ice cream.
As soon as she finished her ice cream, Jade got up from where she was sitting and walked out.
Jade walked all over the mall trying to find her parents but they were nowhere to be found.
They left her alone.
Jade took a deep breath and walked toward the park to see if they were there she looked everywhere but she didn't find them.
As it was getting dark, Jade took a sit on the bench not knowing that her parents aren't coming back for her. Tears started forming in her eyes and threatening to pour down her face.
"Mamma, Dad where are you?", Jade cried for her parents looking around the park just to see if they were coming for her.
Meanwhile, her parents were on their way to another city to start afresh without their daughter. They didn't even have the guilt in their mind about leaving their little girl Jade.
It was then that someone called the police and social services letting them know about the little girl who was roaming around the park.
A woman and a man approached her taking a seat beside her. These were Kate and her husband.
"Hello there", Kate says to the little girl beside them. She looked at the woman beside her with tears in her eyes.
"Don't worry I am here to help you. Can you come with us, dear", Kate tells her taking her hand.
"Thank you", Jade tells Kate.
"You are most welcome, my dear".
They took her to the office as they needed to search for her parents until then they needed someone to look after her.
And that person happens to be Layla who is Kate's daughter-in-law.
Jade needed a place to stay so that the police can search for her parents. But after a few days of staying with Layla, Kate informed them that none of her relatives were found.
Her parents didn't want to be found and that's when Kate decided to let her daughter-in-law adopt Jade as their own as Maya already considered her to be her sister.
End Of Flashback.
"I wish I could forget what happened to me but I can't. I have no idea why I can't seem to forget the past that's tied to my life. I have always tried to forget about yet, I couldn't", Jade tells herself as she is preparing to leave for her job interview but her mind wasn't in the interview.
After all these years, why did she think of them now? Would it make any difference if they showed up?
No, it won't, especially when they abandoned her in a mall where someone could have hurt her or even worse kill her.
Meanwhile, her sister Maya was complimented on accepting a job offer at her old school.
Why?
Every answer is about memories. The memories she had with Rocco.
Her first love, her best friend, and most importantly the guy who left her.
"Maya, you can say yes to the job offer. Its not like he will be there. Besides, you need the job until you finish writing your book. Don't overthink it. Now, I need to get to the interview before I get late", Jade tells her sister.
"Its not about him, bit about the memories that will always haunt me. But I guess you are right, Jay", Maya tells her sister.
"I am always right, now I have to go. Get readysoon so that you won't miss your interview", She then hugs her and leaves Maya to her thoughts.
The two sisters have been sharing an apartment even though their parents wanted them to stay home but they also need to be independent.
It is now or never, Maya. Just go to the interview and accept the job offer. Whatever happens, happens.
She reluctantly got ready to get to her interview even though she knew that her job was already hers.
But what both sisters didn't know was that both of their jobs would come with a surprise that they didn't even expect.
