Soulmates
Authors note: sorry for taking so long here is a nice long drabble for you guys! Found this au on tumblr so in this au everyone is born with a date on their wrist and that's the date they'll meet their soulmate. However if your soulmate dies or falls in love with another their number disappears which is what happened to Gothel and Jack's Mom and also Gothel is Rapunzel's mother.
Jack looked at his pale wrist again running his hand over the tiny black numbers that were printed on his skin.
12-4-2015
He was surprised that he would be meeting his soulmate at the age of seventeen. But you don't really get to choose, today was December fourth twenty fifteen and he was terrified.
What if he got the wrong person? Someone else could have the same exact date printed on their wrist and not be the one, it's happened before. He wasn't even sure if he was ready for a soulmate. It was a lot of pressure for such a young age. He had thought that his number would be when he was in his twenties or even thirties. At least he wasn't one of the unlucky ones who didn't meet their soulmate until they were really old like seventy. That would be a shame living most of your life waiting to meet your soulmate and then having such little time with them.
His phone rang in his pocket. He took it out and checked who had messaged him. It was his boss, they needed him for a delivery. He worked at the local pizza place, today was his day off and this new guy was learning the ropes. However they had gotten an order and the new guy had no idea where the house was and since Jack lived only two streets over they asked if he could deliver this one.
He sighed and texted yes. Maybe it would get his mind off the soulmate thing. He got into his car and drove to work. It was a small cheese pizza nothing too bad. At least it wasn't anchovies. He picked it up and went to the customers house. It was on Corona Drive, he passed it everyday going to school. He turned into the street and went to the address. It was a tall house. Like one of those places you would see in San Fransisco, confined yet tall. He knocked on the door.
"Just leave it out there please." He heard a young woman's voice say.
"Uh I kinda have to be paid for the order and you have to sign for it." He replied.
He could hear her sigh from the other side of the door. "Really? Can I just hand you the bill from the mail slot?"
"You still have to sign for it sorry." Jack replied.
She sighed again. "Okay hold on."
She unlocked her door and opened the door. Her hair was long and blonde, she was about two inches shorter than Jack. The minute their eyes came into contact it was as if lightening had struck inside their hearts.
"Wow." They both said.
He rolled his sleeve up a bit and showed her his numbers. She lifted her wrist and showed him hers
12-4-15
"So I guess that means we're..."
"Yeah I guess so," she said.
"Are you as scared as I am?" He asked honestly.
She stared at him as if he read her mind. "Yes, that's why I locked myself in, I was scared that I wasn't ready...but I guess the world had other plans."
"Yeah I guess it did...I'm Jack by the way." He replied.
"Rapunzel." She said.
Rapunzel noticed he was still holding the pizza. "Oh um would you like to come in?"
"Sure if you don't mind." Jack said.
"No come on in we have a lot to talk about." She said.
He walked into her home. It was a little cramped but nice. He sat on the couch not sure what else to do.
"You'll have to leave before my mother comes home she didn't want me meeting you either."
"Why not?" He asked.
"Well she said Soulmates don't actually exist, their just reasons for people to rush into marriage and live unhappy lives." Rapunzel said.
"Do you believe that?" He asked curiously.
She looked down in thought and back to him. "No I don't. I think it's just the world helping people find the right person, I know there is some down sides. My mother her number disappeared when I was little she said because her someone had already found someone else. It's rather confusing, How could someone's number just fade because they happen to be with someone else?"
"That usually means the soulmate is gone or she already met him but didn't pursue it so the number just faded away." Jack replied. "My dad died about five years ago and my mom's number faded away."
"That's rather sad to think about. I could see why my mother didn't want me to meet you. But I'm glad I did." She reassured his worried glance.
He smiled "Me too, Rapunzel."
From that moment on the two were inseparable. Well except for when Rapunzel's mother was home, she still didn't know that Rapunzel had already met her soulmate.
"Rapunzel I told you those numbers are just numbers they mean nothing," her mother said.
"Yes Mother, may I go over to Merida's house to study?" Rapunzel asked.
"Yes but be home by ten." She replied.
Rapunzel practically ran out the door to go to Jack's house. She was about to knock on the door but he opened it knowing she was going to be there. He took her in is arms and kissed her sweetly. "What took you so long?" He asked.
She slightly swayed in his arms. "I'm sorry I got here as fast as I could but I'm running out of excuses for my mother, and I really hate lying to her."
"I know don't worry we're graduating this year and we can be together no matter what." He replied.
"Jack, I love you." She said.
"I love you too." He smiled and kissed her again.
"Jack really, try to tone down the pda when your sister is in the house." Jack heard his mother say as she stood in the kitchen door way,
"Sorry mom." Jack blushed letting Rapunzel go from the embrace.
"Nice seeing you Rapunzel. If you need me I'll be cooking dinner."
"Thank you Mrs. Frost." Rapunzel said.
There was a loud knock on the door. Jack looked through the peephole just as the woman on the other side yelled
"Rapunzel I know you're in there! You are coming home this instant!" Gothel yelled.
"Oh my god how did she find me?" Rapunzel whispered.
"Go into the attic or out the back door or something!" Jack whispered,
"Oh this is ridiculous. You two are Soulmates it's proven on your wrists she needs to get that through her head!" Jack's mother said.
Jack's mother went to the door and opened it. "Hi you must be Rapunzel's mother I'm Jack's mom,"
"You get your son away from my daughter." Gothel said angrily.
"I'm sorry but I can't do that, they're almost adults and can think for themselves, now I know you don't like this but they are meant to be.."
"No they are not! Soulmates are not a real thing trust me I know!" Gothel interrupted.
"Listen you need to accept this. I know it didn't go right for you and trust me my experience was heart wrenching as well but I would never let my children be afraid of love. Look at them! They are happy together look how happy your daughter is."
Gothel looked at her daughter and sighed "Are you happy?"
"Yes mother, I love him and I'm happy whenever I'm with him." Rapunzel replied.
"Fine but you are not allowed to be alone together without anyone else in the house and no more lying to me." She said.
"Oh thank you mother, thank you." She cried with joy and hugged her mother.
"Yes now I'll see you at home."
"Oh please you must join us for dinner I insist." Jack's mother said.
"Oh I couldn't."
"Oh yes you could come on it will take ten minutes." Jack's mother insisted.
"I never thought your mother and my mother would ever be having dinner with us."
"Me neither. But I'm glad it's happening and that I don't have to keep you a secret anymore." Rapunzel said and kissed him on the cheek.
"I'm happy that I found you this soon. I was scared at meeting my soulmate so young but now we have so much time together." Jack said honestly.
"Me too." She replied.
