A New Name
Jack - Jack what? For the life of him, he couldn't remember; his last name, his past, nothing. The only thing he could remember is his first name and that he had a purpose, but even that was fading fast.

Jack strolled down London's street's tucking the apple he snatched from the basket by the storefront into his jacket pocket. He knew he shouldn't be stealing, the wind told him it wasn't right, and the people around him kept talking about thievery and how bad it was, but since he could not be seen and therefore couldn't make a living, he must. So occasionally a store manager will find that he is missing an apple or two, but since there weren't ever any street rats on that street or block, they were never able to solve the mystery.
"Let's go Wind," Jack muttered, "It's time to go home."
The wind whistled in agreement and Jack walked down the side walk to the alley he called home. "Home" was a quiet alley that does not exist to anybody walking by. Including street rats, in fact street rats just stayed away from his street, that was the reason he chose to live there. No one would disturb him at home. Or so he thought.
"Hello Jack," a voice said.
Jack jumped. No one has ever spoken to him except of the wind.
"That's right, I can see you," gloated the voice, "And I know your name."
Jack looked around, and saw a man sitting on the makeshift bed of cardboard boxes he had made. The man was wearing a long black robe, had a long white beard, and cold black eyes;. He was also holding a long, hawthorn staff.
"Who are you?" Jack asked. The wind, he noticed, disappeared. Typical, he thought.
"I am Mitch," he told Jack, "Most know me as Mitch the Mad, but that's not relevant."
"Why are you here?" Jack asked.
"I would like to offer you a home!" Mitch exclaimed.
"Really?" Jack asked, intrigued, "Where is it?"
"Oh it's a mansion in the country, " he answered with a wave of his hand, "Plenty of room to ... explore," he finished evilly.
The longer he talked, the more uneasy Jack felt. He started to back away slowly. The wind started to blow gently again, as if reassuring him that it will go with what ever Jack does.
Suddenly Jack bolted, he ran out of the alley with the wind at his back helping him along the way. He ran down the street, blowing news papers and hats into the air. Down the street, around the corner, and down another street and around another corner, Jack ran, hoping to lose the crazy sorcerer. Eventually, he found himself at a dead end.
A ball of light appeared out of no where, and out stepped Mitch. "You'll never lose me here boy," he said.
And with that, Mitch grabbed Jack by the arm and said a few incomprehensible words. Within the next moment, Jack felt as if he were running a marathon.
Jack looked around him, what he saw was a huge hall with a double stair case. Two huge mirrors hung on each wall with black frames. When he looked down, the floor looked as if he was looking into space and beyond.
"Nadi, take Jack up to his rooms and send up some sort of refreshment," Mitch said at once, " Make sure he stays there."
A group of ragged zombies started to close in on him as Jack backed up against the front doors. He felt the wind start to blow harder as he started to panic. A loud crack caught his attention, and he looked down. A layer of frost started to form around his feet and spreading out towards the zombies, holding them in place.
With a big gush of wind, Jack found himself picked up be the wind, and carried out the open window above the doors. Just before Jack went through the window, he caught a glimpse of the frost disappearing.
"Frost," Jack whispered. Around him, the wind whistled in agreement, and Jack smiled, "Jack Frost," he repeated
As he flew away, getting used to his new found powers, Jack knew he'd run into Mitch the Mad again, but when he does, he'll be ready.
Hey, this is one of the first short stories I've written ( off of wattpad mind you ) and I would appreciate if you let me know if I should continue. It's one of my favorites, any constructive criticism is welcomed greatly!
