The Loss of a Member
After arriving at the Ministry of Magic's visitor entrance they all crammed into the telephone callbox, they went through the standard formalities and finally the floor moved beneath them.
"Maybe...maybe a couple of you should stay here as a look out." Harry suggested.
"Everyone comes, everyone is integral to this point, from the minute they agreed to help back at the castle." Krystal said firmly. "Let's get on with it."
"This is it." Harry whispered as he opened the very door he had been dreaming about for months now.
The circular room was filled with various door so the only thing to do was check each door, Hermione ever the quick thinker placed a large X on each door they tried so as not to re-enter the same doors.
Finally they reached a large door that seemed to be locked.
Hermione performed the unlocking charm but nothing happened. "Sirius' knife." Harry stated as he fished the knife Sirius had given his as a Christmas gift from within his pocket. But it still refused to open.
"This isn't it." Harry stated, "all of the doors in my dream could be opened."
After that they came to the next door and Harry spoke "this is it."
They were there, they had reached the place: high as a church and full of nothing but towering shelves covered in small, dusty, glass orbs.
"Row ninety-seven." Krystal said as she looked up and took notice that the row in front of them was only fifty-three.
"Yeah." Harry breathed.
When they finally reached the proper row Harry and Krystal both grew anxious. But much as Krystal knew nothing could be found, no Sirius, no Voldemort torturing him.
"Harry have you seen this?" Ron asked.
"No!" Krystal said but no one heard her.
"It's got your name on it." Ron pointed out as Harry walked over, to the small orb in which Ron was talking about.
"Don't touch it!" Krystal shouted, "leave it there whatever you do."
Harry looked at her "why not?"
"Don't Harry." Neville put in wisely, he didn't know what was going on but even he could feel that something wasn't quite right about the events of tonight.
"It's got my name on it"
"Don't be dim Harry, don't you see that this is THE weapon that we've been trying to protect, just leave it be and let's leave!" Krystal instructed. "Sirius isn't here, I told you he wouldn't be now let's get out of here."
Feeling slightly reckless from tonight's events Harry spoke once more, "if it's the weapon then that's even more reason that WE need to protect it!" He shouted before he closed his fingers around the dusty orb.
"Very good, Potter. Now turn around, nice and slowly, and give that to me." Lucius Malfoy drawled as black shapes began to emerge out of thin air all around them, blocking every ways out.
"Where's Sirius?" Harry asked.
A few death eaters laughed but one stood out the most and the sound of the high cackle made Krystal blood turn with hatred, "the dark lord always knows." She said.
It took everything in her for Krystal to remain still.
"Always." Malfoy echoed softly. "You should have listened to your friend Potter, now hand over the prophecy and no one need get hurt."
Harry kept Lucius talking about the prophecy until it gave him an idea, he managed to relay the message and when he gave the order the five of them (minus Harry) sent whatever spell they could to cause a slight distraction by destroying the surrounding shelves.
"RUN!" Harry shouted as glass and splintered pieces of wood showered down upon them.
Everyone ran for their own lives and Krystal, Ginny, and Ron ran passed Harry and Hermione. Four death eaters chased Ron, Ginny, and Krystal into a dark room, Ginny and Krystal lit the ends of their wands and Ron copied their action.
"No time to hide, we have to fight them if we want to live." Krystal said to them sternly. "I know it's scary but confidence is key."
They both noddd and not a second later the group of death eaters had found them, they didn't waste a moment as they began to send attack after attack on the students, Ron blocked while Ginny and Krystal shot back with their own spells and curses.
But the Death Eaters must've grown bored as they began to resort to physical violence, Ron got the worst of it as he was punched so hard in the face he looked like he would pass out any minute, Krystal managed to stun three of the four and Ginny hexed them from moving for a good while, but one remained, Ginny blasted him hard with a trip jinx while Krystal stunned him, they made quick work of picking up Ron but when he got to his own feet he jogged out of the door, the two girls ran after him but Ginny tripped and cried out as the sound of a small crunch broke through the room.
"Shit," Krystal said as she made sure Ginny was alright.
"I'm fine, let's keep going before they come after us again."
When they got to the hall they found Ron clutching onto Harry's robes before his knees buckled and he fell forward.
"What happened?" Harry asked in a panic.
Ginny simply sat down against a wall as she grabbed her ankle.
"I think she broke her ankle." Krystal said as she walked up to him, "I heard the bone snap as we were running."
But time for talking was cut short when Bellateix Lestrange spotted them and soon after the stunning spells were being cast once more. They ran into a room but of course it was useless, with Ron wonky (from a random spell by a nameless death eater), Hermione completely out of it (due to being hit in the chest by an unknown purplish flame), Ginny's ankle messed up and Neville using Hermione's wand (because his was broken when he was kicked by a death eater) it was up to Harry and Krystal to defend their friends as well as the prophecy.
"You are in no position to bargain, Potter." Lucius Malfoy sounded Happily, "you see there are ten of us and only the two of you."
Krystal and Harry stood right near each other, their wands drawn and ready to do whatever they had to.
"They aren't alone." Neville piped up as he stepped down the long steel steps as he began to attempt to use "Stupefy." But they only laughed at his weak attempts.
"It's Longbottom isn't it?" Malfoy asked, " well, your grandmother is used to losing family members to our cause...your death will come as no shock..."
"Longbottom?" Bellatrix smiled, "I've had the pleasure of meeting your parents."
Neville glared at her.
"Let's see how long Longbottom lasts before he cracks like his parents...unless potter gives us the prophecy." She continued.
"Don't give it to them!" He shouted
"Crucio!" Bellatrix screamed with joy.
Neville screamed out in pain as his legs involuntarily curled cruelly up to his chest in a painful and cramped fetal position.
"Wait!" Krystal whispered urgently as she noticed Harry was actually contemplating handing over the prophecy.
Not a minute after her warning that high above them, two more doors burst open. And five more people sprinted into the room: Lupin, Cedric, Tonks, Kingsley, and much to Krystal's dismay, Sirius.
The Death Eaters went to strike but the members of the Order were much too quick.
As the fighting seemed evenly matched up everyone was concentrating on who they were dueling with.
Krystal was dueling with a stocky sort of fellow, his face hidden behind the signature death eater mask and long black robes. He got her a couple of times and it knocked her to the ground but it only made her angrier and she used that anger to fight back harder soon he had managed to immobilize him and she rushed over to Sirius.
"What are you doing here?" She shouted as she helped him fight the two death eaters he had attracted.
"My job!"
"I told you not to come, you promised!" She hissed as she stunned one of the death eaters and then went to help Sirius stun the other, they both got him in the chest and took a moment to talk.
"What was I suppose to do Krys, sit back and let you and Harry risk your lives, you two mean everything to me and I refuse to lose you."
"How do you think we feel?" She asked him, "it's dangerous for you to be here, this is where I've seen you die!"
He stared blankly at her, she covered her mouth, Krystal hadn't meant to say that out loud.
"Nobody lives forever." He said plainly.
"The future can be changed!"
Just then a familiar loud cackle sounded and Krystal turned to see Bellatrix advancing on them.
"Go Sirius I can take her."
Sirius smiled, "she's mine!" He growled. "She's the reason Regulus joined."
Krystal understood, this wasn't mentioned in the books but she knew that Regulus was a member if the Death Eaters, but he had suddenly changed his mind and gone good when he stole one of Voldemorta Horocruxes before he died.
Bellatrix, his cousin had made him join and Sirius never forgave her for it.
Spell after spell was cast and Krysal noticed the arrival of Dumbledore many people had stopped dueling but Sirius and Bellatrix remained.
Suddenly she felt a hand grab her waist and she turned to see Cedric, he was attempting to pull her away from the fight.
"Stop it!" She shouted at Cedric as Sirius narrowly ducked a jet of red lights coming from Bellatrix's wand.
"Did I forget to mention we've brought along a friend of yours." Lucius stated confidently as the fighting had momentarily stopped, a couple of death eaters brought forth Mad-Eye Moody, or at least a version if him.
He was severely beaten down, his face full with a beard, his eye socket empty as his magical eye had been stripped away.
"He is of no use to us anymore." Bellatrix laughed. Before she sneakily tried to hit Sirius once more with another spell.
Cedric left Krystal's side and went to collect Moody, but as soon as moody had gotten to the top right near Krystal, Bellatrix hit Sirius square in the chest, stunning him.
Then everything seemed to move both extremely fast and extremely slow all at the same time.
Moody quickly grabbed Cedric's wand and shouted "Stupefy" as he ran as fast as he could before his own red jet of light sprang forward and hit Bellatrix. His body collided with Sirius' and he managed to push Sirius out of harms way as he himself fell through the tall arched veil.
Cedric quickly grabbed Sirius up and draped Sirius' limp arm over his own shoulder. Krystal was in shock and Lupin had to drag her away.
Dumbledore had managed to gather the remaining Death Eaters but Bellatrix escaped.
"Let's find the others." Lupin suggested as he reached Harry, "where is the prophecy?"
"It's smashed." Krystal squeaked out finally coming out of her initial shock.
"What?" He asked.
"She's right." Harry said, "I was trying to get Neville up and it smashed against the steps before anyone could hear it."
Lupin sighed and nodded before he cast a spell to right Nevilles legs from Bellatrix's Cruciatus Curse.
Suddenly Harry's hand flew to his head as his scar seared with pain, "he knows it's gone." He said through gritted teeth.
Everyone managed to get the students up to Ministry of Magic's main entry way just as Cornelius Fudge entered.
He questioned them about everything but Dumbledore assured him if he went down to the Death a chamber in the Department of Mysteries that they would find several escaped known Death Eaters.
"And Sirius Black?" He asked angrily.
"I can assure you that I will tell you everything, and with a bit of veratiserum the death eaters will fill you in as well, but first I think the students should get back to school"
Cornelius knew he had been wrong, and Krystal knew that because the story had been altered no mention of Voldemort showing up was going to be here tonight.
Dumbledore pointed his wand to the first object he could find and turned it into a portkey before he picked up the object.
"You will give the order to remove Dolores Umbridge from Hogwarts, you will tell your Aurors to stop searchin for my Care of Magical Creatures teacher so that he can return to work..." Dumbledore said firmly, "in return I will give you half an hour of my time tonight, in which I think we shall be more than able to cover the important points of what happened here. After that, I shall return to my school. If you need more help from me you are, of course, more than welcome to contact me at Hogwarts."
Cornelius Fudge didn't know how to respond.
"Cedric, take this portkey and makes sure all of you get back safely...Professor Snape is awaiting your arrival."
