A Toad and an Army

The following morning everyone found out that Dolores Umbridge had in fact been promoted overnight from Hogwarts Professor, to that of Hogwarts High Inquisitor, the first of her position.

Krystal knew all too well that now she truly had to keep her head down and her nose clean.

Umbridge took her new job very seriously and wouldn't hesitate to make anyone's life miserable, this wasn't limited to just the students of course. She sat in on multiple professors classes, questioning them in front of the student body to see if they were "acceptable" to even be teaching.

The days went on and Krystal did well with blending in, unfortunately the same couldn't be said of Harry who continued to rebel openly against Umbridge.

The night before their next Hogsmeade trip, Krystal happily found herself in the library with Cedric.

The two worked in silence as they exchanged cheeky glances at one another.

"Excuse me, hate to interrupt you two." Hermione said with a slight blush.

"It's alright, is anything the matter Hermione?" Cedric asked as he placed his quill down and gave her his full attention.

Krystal smiled at his gentlemanly ways before she too turned her attention to Hermione.

"Do you mind?" Hermione asked as she motioned to take a seat, the two encouraged it and she sat down. "W-well as I'm sure you two know, this years D. A. D. A classes have been..."

"Rubbish." Krystal helped.

"Exactly," Hermione smiled and continued, "um, well I had come up with the idea of, well sort of taking matters into our own hands."

"What do you mean?" Questioned Cedric.

"What if there was a class, a secret class that taught actual defense against the dark arts, use of our wands, spells, things that can help us in not just our exams but in real life as well."

Cedric looked down at his Head Boy badge, Krystal grabbed his hand and he looked up at her.

"My Love, I know this seems questionable but we have to think about our future, we're part of the Order, we know Voldemort is back, do you think the crap we've learned so far from books is going to save us if we come face to face with him?"

"You're right darling." He stated as he offered her a weak smile, "just seems strange having to sneak around to learn proper lessons." He nodded "alright then, and who's the professor?"

Hermione's face fell a bit.

"Harry." Krystal said softly.

"Potter?" He asked curiously.

"Who better?" Krystal replied enthusiastically, "I know for a fact that he has taken on Voldemort twice, faced a full grown werewolf, held his own in the goblet of fire despite being significantly younger and less prepared than everyone else, he can produce a very powerful patronus," then Krystal looked around before dropping her voice to a whisper, "and I also know that he will become a great auror, but don't tell him that as people aren't suppose to know their own futures."

Hermione and Cedric gave her wide eyed head nods as they silently agreed.

"Now I won't make you join Harry's lessons Love, but I am and I only hope that you won't try and stop me from going."

Cedric smiled at his spirited girlfriend, he kissed her forehead, "I could never try and stop you from doing anything darling."

"So are you both in?" Hermione asked a little confused.

They both nodded their heads 'yes' before she continued to give them instructions to meet her in The Hog's Head tomorrow.

. . . . .

"Are you sure they will come?" Cedric asked as he took a seat.

Krystal smiled and took a comfortable seat on his lap before kissing his nose, "they will come, we're just a bit early."

He wrapped his arms around her, "oh, I think I can live with being early." He flirted as he kissed her lips in return.

"Get you anything?" A husky voice grumbled.

The two pulled apart and Cedric ordered two butterbeers.

All too soon the trio arrived and following right behind them were the rest of the crowd.

Ron ran around trying to rustle up enough chairs for everyone. Once everyone settled in Hermione stood and spoke a very nervous introduction.

"You want to pass your defense against the dark arts O.W.L. too though, I bet?" A boy called Michael Corner called out.

"Of course I do." Hermione defended at once "but I want more than that, I want to be properly trained in Defense because... because..." She took a deep breath and collected herself before she finished, "because Lord Voldemort's back."

Cedric's arms tighten a bit around Krystal (who was still lovingly atop his lap), one girl shrieked, others twitched and shuddered but no one got up left.

The obvious doubt had filled the room and some voiced their questions.

"I've seen him, Dumbledor's seen him." Harry said standing now. "If you don't believe him, if you don't believe me I'm not wasting an afternoon trying to convince anyone."

No one spoke, everyone seemed to be holding their breath as Harry spoke.

"If you've come here to find out what it looks like when Voldemort murders someone I can't help you." Harry said, his temper waning, "so if that's what you're here for, you might as well clear out."

Harry was then questioned about his Patronus and various actions he's performed while attending Hogwarts.

"Look." Harry said, everyone silenced as he spoke. "I...i don't want to sound like I'm trying to be modest or anything, but...i had a lot of help with that stuff."

Zacharius Smith had a slight go at Harry's vulnerability, "well we've all turned up to learn from him and now he's telling us he can't really do any of it."

Fred and George came to Harry's defense and successfully quieted Zacharius Smith.

Once everyone was in agreement that Harry was capable of doing the things he had been praised for came the next challenges, times and place of meetings.

As three of the four house Quidditch captains sat in the room their main concern was that these private lessons did not interfere with practices.

Everyone agreed to meeting once a week, but the place to meet was still uncertain so Hermione pulled out a parchment, "I think everybody should write their names down, just so we know who was here. But I also think, that we all ought to agree not to shout about what we are doing. So if you sign, you're agreeing not to tell Umbridge- or- anybody else what were up to."

Fred reached out and placed his name down eagerly. But there were more than a few people who were less enthusiastic about having to put their names down.

"I-well...it's just we're prefects." Ernie Macmillan sounded hesitantly. "If that list is found, you said yourself, if Umbridge finds out-"

Krystal stood from Cedric's lap now and snatched up the list before she wrote down her own name.

"I'm a prefect as well, and I could care less if that old fat toad finds out my name is on the list." Krystal said pointedly. "This is important, this is bigger than a silly little school badge, that prefect title isn't going to help me defend myself if in a bad situation. It's not like she can lock a student up in Azkaban, although from the Daily Prophet it seems it's not that hard to escape regardless."

The Weasley twins laughed and clapped and Cedric looked on with so much adoration for Krystal and a proud smile. Nobody raised any objections after that, when the last person signed Hermione took the parchment and placed it into her bag. In twos and threes everyone left.

The rest of the week went by and with Umbridge's new Decree of organized groups not being allowed without her consent it sent everyone into a state of worry, Hermione especially.

"Trust me, we need this." Krystal said one evening. Krystal and the trio were sitting at a table trying to help Harry with his potions assignment as Fred and George demonstrated their latest products to an excited crowd in the Gryffindor common room. "Also don't forget 'snuffles' is going to be coming round tonight." Krystal said of Sirius' planned meetings through Floo powder.

"Why does it sound like you won't be there?" Harry asked her a bit grumpily.

"I want to, but I have to meet up with Cedric, we haven't spent time together in ages." Krystal admitted, the fact that he had Quidditch practice, his homework, and head boy duties made it nearly impossible to find any alone time together. "Also if my memory serves me well you will want to keep the chatter short tonight."

"What do you mean?" Hermione asked.

"Well as you know my 'gift' allows me to see certain things, a while back I saw you three talking to him in the fire but everything comes to a halt as a short stubby hand with old fashioned rings reaches out through the fire to grab him." Krystal informed them.

"I knew it was dangerous!" Hermione stated awestruck.

"There's no way we can reach him and tell him." Harry responded.

"Especially with your mail being read." Krystal put in, "but with the way things have been happening out of order I'm not sure what will happen tonight, so don't dawdle about, get to the main points and let him go otherwise he very well may get caught, now I've got to get going."

With a last glance back at the common room Krystal fled through the portrait of the fat lady and into the darkened halls of Hogwarts.
