Shortened Summary: Written as a series of college style lectures, What If Pokémon Could No Longer Evolve is narrated by a professor, talking through a few popular examples of Kantian Pokémon that can no longer evolve by any means (leveling up or items) due to influence by Team Rocket and the effects that this has on nature. The key theme, survival of the fittest, is heavily explored in this story, even going so far as to question the what ifs of the Pokémon lore like what if Team Rocket succeeded, as well as what makes a Pokémon inherently "strong". 

Review: While it has no discernable plot, the characters presented are interesting (though we don't really know them) even though they only are there to further the lectures and ask questions the reader may have. Despite this, I found it a rather interesting read. The reasoning for the lack of evolution is well thought out and not as technical sounding as some of the judges have mentioned in conversations I've had with them about it. Overall, the concept was the best part of the story as it could continue exploring every Pokémon's de-evolution and the results it has on society, nature and globally. The main reason the rating is so low is due to the lack of information I'd like in a story such as this one. Although it clearly explains why Pokémon can't evolve anymore, it doesn't go into depth on Pokémon outside of Kanto. It also ended a bit abruptly and didn't contain any conclusive ending. Questions such as what happens after the story takes place, the reasoning for the concept being explored (other than it being unexplained in the franchise) and how did the school start, its purpose and how the tale is being viewed (is it a camera? Someone observing the lectures?) were left unanswered. As these are easy to solve, the overall story is one I'd recommend for any Pokémon fan, especially those that enjoy questioning the what ifs the series has created. Out of all the ones in this category, it stands out for its ability to make one think deeper on the lore of the Pokémon world.
