Shortened Summary: After multiple failed attempts, Kanto's Federation sends in their only hope for answers to the mysterious disappearances of their top secret scientists. Chozu sees the challenge and jumps to investigate Cinnabar Island, despite the many people who have tried and been lost forever. With her Jolteon at her side, what could go wrong?

Review: Written in only three parts, this story tackles several ideas and remains mostly successful in its portrayal. Chozu and her Jolteon are the more likeable characters and stay that way throughout the story, while giving hints on their past. However, it does not detract from the plot. The author does this in such a way that you relate to the characters, but also constantly have the situation Chozu is in at the forefront of your mind, lending more tension to the story. Jolteon and Chozu's relationship is well developed and was my favorite part of the tale as it is well shown without being overbearing or taking away from the story.

Even so, it is not without places it could improve on. Despite the antagonist being interesting, it lacked depth. Lt. Surge also lacked depth, but with Chozu's history with him it didn't feel like it should be added to. Whereas the antagonist does not actually gain much screen time, therefore causing it to be lacking some. Its motive was well thought out, it did not create a strong attachment to the reader even though there was sympathy formed. If I wrote this I would add one more chapter so that the third could delve more into a memory or other aspect that could make the connection to the reader a little stronger, but overall it was a well planned antagonist for a story of this size. This story reminded me slightly of "What If Pokémon Could No Longer Evolve?" in the way it explores a topic that is not discussed in many fanfics within the community. As far as the themes went, this was what I enjoyed most about this story. It is a well crafted tale that gives a very possible solution to an issue people seldom mentioned. I highly recommend this for fans who love adventuring through the what its of the Pokémon world.
