Chapter 16: Carrying on
This chapter will be longer than the rest so please bear with it.
Snape's p.o.v.
I watched as Ivy burst through the door with cuts and bruises littering her body. It was hard for me not to gasp in horror along with everyone else. My scowl became one of anger as Malfoy ran in after her. He seemed unharmed and although he probably tried not to I could see the slight smirk in his face. Ivy managed about one look around the room before she fainted. Potter, who had stood up to see her, ran forward and caught her in his arms, slowly lying her on the floor. He turned to look at me as if I had done something wrong and yelled:
"Help her!!" I put a scowl on even though on the inside I was worried about the girl who reminded me so much of Silvia. I levitated her out of the telling the students to stay in the classroom. When I was sure they could no longer see us, I stopped using the spell and carried the girl myself. Madam Pomfrey gave me a funny look when I walked in but I placed Ivy on a bed anyway.
She instantly rushed over and started to scan Ivy's limp body. I stood anxiously, waiting for the scan to be over. When Madam Pomfrey looked up her expression was grave.
"Do you know what happened, Severus, I need all the information I can get." I thought for a moment before answering.
"I was taking over Lupin's defence against the dark arts lesson. I noticed that Black and Malfoy and his gang were missing, but when I asked Potter where they were he didn't know. I was carrying on with the lesson when Black burst through the door covered in cuts and bruises, she was then followed by Malfoy who looked unharmed. Black fainted so I brought her here." Poppy nodded and pulled out a pain reliever potion.
"I'm going to need to study these results as they are very confusing, when she wakes up will you give her this?" I nodded and took the potion. I was considering asking what was so confusing about the results but decided against it. I got the feeling I already knew.
Ivy's p.o.v.
I was slipping in an out of consciousness, getting flashbacks of the darker parts of my life: my mother dying, my father crying over his limp body, being taken to a huge mansion where I would spend the next 9 years of my life.
My eyes flickered open. I turned to the side and saw Remus sleeping on a chair next to me. I started to sit up and realised that someone's arms were wrapped around my body. Fred's. I smiled slightly at for a moment I was at peace. However it wouldn't last as I realised that my glamor charm had been removed. I cursed silently and slipped out of the hospital wing bed. I knew I would have to be careful not to wake up Remus as he looked like he had been through a lot. I tiptoed to the door which, luckily, was slightly open. I sidestepped through and started to walk down the corridor.
"Going somewhere, Miss Black?" I whipped round to see Snape standing behind me.
"Well...I...thought I heard a noise and...erm.." Snape raised his eyebrows. I sighed. I was a terrible liar. I looked down at my ribs which were clearly visible from under the tight top I was wearing. I wish I had a jacket I thought to myself.
"I think that you should just walk right back into the hospital wing before I give you a detention." I growled and walked so that I was standing right in front of him.
"NO!!" I didn't mean to shout but sometimes I couldn't help it. Snape looked shocked for a minute and then he started to get angry. So I ran away. I arrived at the common room sat down on the armchair in front of the fire and fell asleep.
I was awoken by Hermione who screamed my name.
"I'm awake, okay"
"Are you ok, Ivy?" I nodded then looked at the huge pile of books and homework in her arms. My eyes widened. Hermione must have understood as she started to go red.
"I'm taking a few more lessons, its not even that much!"
"What time is it? I asked.
"2 in the morning" Hermione mumbled but I heard her perfectly and jumped up in shock. I grabbed her timetable from the top of the stack of work. It was full and for some times two lessons were written down. She tried to snatch it out of my hand but I pulled it out of her reach. laughing I started to run around the common room holding the parchment behind me. Hermione laughed along too and ran after me.
After a while we got tired and collapsed on the couch.
"Well how can you have all those lessons?" She sighed and looked at the ceiling.
"At the start of term Professor McGonagall gave me a device called a time turner so that I could go back in time to re do days over again but doing the other lessons instead. It's hard but I want to do as many lessons as I can so I can get good grades. I want to stop doing some lessons but I don't know which ones." I nodded and took a look at the timetable again.
"It says here that you're taking muggle studies, you are a muggle Hermione, you don't need to take it. Also you hate divination, you can drop that. Do you really need ancient runes?"
"Yes, but I suppose you're right about those other two. I'll drop muggle studies, I'll try one more lesson of divination and if I really don't like it I'll quit." I smiled at her and walked slowly up the stairs to the girls dorms to go to bed.
The next morning I reapplied my glamor charm as I forgot to do it the night before. Hopefully Hermione didn't see what I looks like. It was a good job the top I had been wearing had long sleeves. I looked at Hermione's bed and was surprised to see that she was asleep in it.
I knew that it wasn't time for lessons yet as from the sight of the sky it was only around 5. I wasn't sure what to do as I knew that I wouldn't be able to get back to sleep, so I decided to go for a walk. It was weird for the castle to be so quiet but I didn't mind. I was just wandering around aimlessly when I realised that I had arrived at the astronomy tower. I walked to the edge, leaned on the railings that stopped people from falling over the edge and looked out at the sky.
I was about to walk away when I noticed that around the side of the astronomy tower were some bricks jutting out like steps up the side. Challenge accepted I thought to myself as I climbed out of the tower and started up the side. I was about half way up when my foot slipped and I found myself dangling very, very high up in the air.
My hands started slipping and just as I was about to fall a platform of fire appeared beneath my feet and saved me from falling. I gasped, amazed, and clambered back onto the steps I wasn't going to cheat at this. I carried on climbing ,a bit fazed from the near death experience, and eventually got to the top of the tower.
It was a beautiful view and it somehow put me at ease. All the problems I had been having suddenly disappeared as I stood at the edge of the roof and looked out over the school's grounds. The fight with Malfoy, my fa-Sirius Black escaping, being hated it all disappeared. It was so peaceful up there. Although nothing in my crazy, messed up life could ever stay good for long.
"What do you think you are doing up here, Black?!"
"It was 'Miss' Black, earlier." I replied sarcastically and turned around slowly. Snape was looking at me, he didn't seem that angry. I sighed, was he just going to stand there all day?
"I knew your mother you know, you remind me of me of her." My eyes widened as Snape came and stood next to me looking at the rising sun. It was probably supposed to but it didn't feel weird. I felt fine with Snape standing next to me. We both stood at the edge of the astronomy tower for a while until Snape spoke again.
"She was so kind to me . We were introduced by Potter's mother, Lily, who I had been friends with before Hogwarts. At first I didn't like her because she was a prankster like your father, but she was friendly and never treated anyone horribly, unless they were horrible to her of course. She was also smart, amazing at potions and defence against the dark arts. In fifth year I did something terrible and Lily stopped being my friend, but Silvia never left me, she even invited me to her wedding. Even though I knew nobody else wanted me to, I went and she was so happy to see me. But then I did another terrible thing and I lost her." I stood there shocked as tears fell down Snape's face. I really wasn't sure what to say. Luckily I didn't have to as Snape turned and walked away. I didn't turn around but before he went he said:
"You really are like her, you know"
