Ch.11: Bell Test and a Secret Revealed
Emiko's POV
I hummed a short tune as I made my way to the training ground. It was finally Monday, meaning that we were having the bell test today. The sun was already up in the sky showing that I was already late for the survival training, but after living with Kakashi for a while, I figured that he was going to be late anyway. So instead of getting up and leave to meet at 5, I woke up at 8 and got ready and left the house at 9 after waking up Kakashi and leaving him a nice cooked breakfast on the dining table. I giggled to myself as I thought about what happened this morning.
Flashback
I sighed as I placed the rest of Kakashi's breakfast on the dining table. Looking at the time, I could tell that Sakura and Naruto will not be happy that Kakashi and I are late. It's already 9 and we were supposed to meet them at 5. We left them standing there for 4 hours already, and from knowing them, they probably didn't eat any food either.
Walking upstairs, I went to Kakashi's room and knocked on his door. I stood there waiting for an answer to receive none. Sighing once again, I turned ther door knob to see if his door was unlocked. Luckily for me, it was. After quietly entering his room, I tiptoed to his bed and saw that he was still fast asleep. Poking him a bit did nothing to wake him up. Placing both my hands on his shoulders, I shook him a little, but all he did was swat my hands away and turn over on his other side. Grumbling to myself I grabbed the blacket and pulled it off of him.
I covered my mouth immediately after what I saw. Under the blue covers was a sleeping Kakashi wearing nothing but his boxers. I tried to stifle my giggling when I saw that his boxers were covered in puppies, dog bones, and paw prints. Shaking my head a bit, I smiled and walked into the connected bathroom. Grabbing the cup that was on the counter, I placed cold water in it. Walking back into the room, I saw that Kakashi had changed positions so that he was rolled up into a ball. Giggling to myself, i placed the cup on the ground by the bed. Making some hand signs, i watched as the water from the cup floated in the air, and grew into a ball of water about the size of a soccer ball. Moving my hands a little, the ball of water followed until it was over Kakashi's head. making one last hand sign, I watched as the ball of ice-cold water fell onto Kakashi.
I giggled as I watched Kakashi jump up 3 meters and fall back onto his bed soaked and shivering.
"E-Emiko! W-What t-the hell w-was th-that for?!" Kakashi stuttered.
Grabbing a towel from his bathroom, I handed it to Kakashi to dry him off.
"For starters, it's already 9, meaning we left the team waiting for us for 4 hours, and most likely starving. Now come on! Get up! I don't want them angrier with us for leaving them waiting any longer. Get ready and head to the training grounds. Knowing you, you'll be there in an hour or so. Your breakfast is on the dining table by the way. I made a cheese omelet, tempura, and a bowl of rice." I said.
"Okay, okay. I'll see you soon, okay Emiko?" Kakashi said as he patted my head.
Smiling up at him, I nodded and ran downstairs. Slipping on my black shinobi sandals, I locked the door, and made my way to the training grounds.
Flashback Ended
Now here I am, only few seconds away until I reached the training grounds. I skipped my way towards the team, with a package full of 3 bowls or ramen. I giggled when I heard all their stomachs growl.
"Ohayo, Sasu-oji, Saku-nee, and Naru-kun." I said cheerfully as I stopped in front of them.
"Emiko-chan, where have you been? Your already 4 hours late." Sakura said
"Gomen, but after living with Kakashi for a while, I learned about all his habits, and being late is one of them." I replied.
"Ehhhh? Emi-chan! Why didn't you tell us before, believe it?!" Naruto complained.
"I would have told you before I left but Kashi-oji transported us away before I could. But I did bring you guys some food." I said as I lifted up the package full of miso ramen.
"YEAH! RAMEN! THANK YOU EMI-CHAN! I'M STARVING, BELIEVE IT!" Naruto cheered.
Giggling, I handed one to Naruto.
"Would you like some as well, Saku-nee, Sasu-oji?" I asked holding a bowl out for each of them.
"No thanks Emi-chan, I'm not hungry." Sasuke mumbled.
I saw Sakura glance at Sasuke, then at the ramen, then back at Sasuke.
"Y-yeah, it's o-okay Emiko-chan. I'm on a diet anyway." Sakura said sheepishly.
I deadpanned at the two when I heard their stomachs growl.
"No, eat. You're hungry, and you won't have enough strength to fight Kashi-oji if you're hungry. Plus, you're location would be given away if you're stomachs growl." I said.
They both glanced at the ramen in my hands before looking away.
I pouted at the two.
"Come on, it's miso ramen." I said persuasively.
Again, the two glanced at the ramen, and then looked at the ground. After one last glance, the two sighed and grabbed a bowl of ramen and a pair of chopsticks.
"Itadakimasu." The three said together.
Smiling to myself, I walked towards a tree that was close to the team and jumped onto one of the branches. Finding a comfortable position, I leaned against the trunk of the tree with one of my legs hanging off the branch. I hugged Kou-kun towards me and took a deep breath. I smiled as my nose was filled with the scent of lavender and sweets. Papa said that Mama always had a lavender smell to her and that she loved sweets like me. I sighed sadly and sat straighter. Placing Kou-kun on my lap facing down, I opened up a small hatch that was on his back. I smiled when I saw that all Kou-kun's weapons were all in place. You see, Kou-kun isn't just a teddy pear. He's a puppet... and a host.
If you opened the front of his chest, you'd find the sealing container of a heart, a heart that once belonged to a dear friend of mine. Kou-kun, once was a boy of a small but powerful clan. But they were slaughtered by a group of rouge Nin. Kou-kun was a close friend of mine, and I was lucky to be able to find him when he was still alive. With the help of Sasori, we used his jutsu that made him into a puppet to do the same to Kou-kun. Using my teddy bear, we were able to save him. But unlike, Sasori, Kou-kun is able to transform between him and my teddy bear. To keep the secret, Kou-kun only stays in his teddy bear form unless I'm in danger. You see, only Sasori and I know about this secret. That's why I like to keep Kou-kun with me at all times.
Looking down at the rest of the team I saw that they were looking at something... or should I say someone.
"Hi fellows. Good morning." Kakashi said, lazily, with one hand up for a wave.
"YOU'RE LATE!" Sakura and Naruto yelled, as they pointed at Kakashi.
"A black cat crossed my path, so..." Kakashi stopped when he saw that none of us believed him.
Clearing his throat a bit, he continued. "Let's move on," Kakashi said was he walked to the three logs that stood in the center of the grounds and placed an alarm clock on it, "Alarm is set for 12 PM."
The team and I stared at Kakashi sensei confused, as he took out three bells from his pocket.
"Today's topic is to take one of these bells from me. Whoever can't will have no lunch," Kakashi announced, "I'm going to tie you to one of the logs and eat lunch in front of you."
Kakashi narrowed his eyes at us when he saw the other three genin's smug looks.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Kakashi muttered.
"We ate breakfast Kakashi-sensei." Sakura said.
"Hmmm... You did huh? And why didn't you follow my instructions?"
"Emi-chan brought us ramen an hour before you came, believe it!" Naruto grinned.
"Emiko brought you? Emiko, I thought I told you no breakfast."
"Well if you got to eat breakfast we might as well get some too. Plus we had an hour to digest so we won't throw up." I said.
Kakashi sighed and nodded.
"Let's get started then."
"But wait," Sakura interrupted, "Why are there only three bells?"
"Since there's only three, at least one of you will have to by tied to a log. That person will fail since he failed to complete the mission. The person will go back to the academy. It might be just one, or all four. You can use your shuriken. You won't be able to get this unless you have the will to kill me." It was Kakashi's turn to look smug.
"But that's too dangerous, sensei!" Sakura yelled.
"Saku-nee, Kashi-oji is a jounin, he's two levels above our own. He would be able to dodge simple weapons like shuriken and kunai if it was thrown by some genin," I said, "Kashi-oji, can I use my katanas?"
"Emiko is right Sakura, and yes you can Emiko. I see you're prepared to come at me with an intent to kill." Kakashi said as he looked at what I was wearing.
For this survival training I chose to wear one of my training clothes that I wore at the Akatsuki. I wore a blue, short-sleeved top, with a hoodie, a black tank top underneath, white shorts that stopped a few inches above my knees, blue arm warmers with white lining, bandages covering my calves, black fingerless gloves, black shinobi sandals, my hatai-ate on my forehead, and a black mask that was right now hanging lose around my neck. On the back of my shirt was the Uchiha clan symbol. What I wore was actually very similar to what Sasuke was wearing. I had strapped a weapons pouch just above my left knee and another on my upper, right thigh. I'm lucky that I can use both hands when wielding a weapon.
On my back, I had strapped on my twin katanas that I had bought the first time I went around Konoha. Like on the first day, the twin katanas were strapped onto my back in an X formation. The katanas were sheathed in black cases that had different symbols imprinted in gold. The hilts of the katanas were black, wrapped with gold leather giving it a diamond pattern. The tip of the hilts held chakra seals that would allow me to place my chakra in the katanas so that I could summon then when needed and enhance damage on my opponents by surrounding the blades with my chakra nature. Like all the swords I owned and held dear to me, I named them. The on my left held symbols involving the day, so I named it Hi. Unlike my left katana that held symbols of the day, my left katana held symbols of the night, so I named it Yoru.
Before I jumped off the tree to greet Kakashi, I left Kou-kun on the branch so he can set up some traps as back up.
"Of course I am. I wouldn't pass up the chance to fight against one of Konoha's jounin, especially a former ANBU." I smirked.
This caught the rest of team's attention.
"ANBU?" They muttered.
"Haha, I don't know where you got the information but you can't beat me with just a bit of information." Kakashi chuckled.
"Sakura may be right though Emi-chan. That thing about him being an ANBU is probably fake. He couldn't even dodge that chalk eraser!" Naruto exclaimed.
"In society, those who don't have many abilities tend to complain more. Just ignore the guy with the lowest score. We're going to start after I say 'ready, start'." Kakashi said.
I frowned a bit when I heard Kakashi insult Naruto, but before I could say stop, Naruto ran at Kakashi with a kunai in hand. In a flash, Kakashi was behind Naruto holding one hand on Naruto's head, and the other holding Naruto's hand that held a kunai, so that the kunai was pointing the back of Naruto's neck.
"Don't get so hasty. I didn't say 'start' yet." Kakashi said.
Sakura and Sasuke backed up from the two, while I stood my ground, my hand gripping the kunai I took out a few minutes ago.
"But, it looks like you have the will to kill me now," Kakashi said as he let go of Naruto," I think I can finally start liking you three. We're going to start. Ready, start!"
With a leap, we all jumped for cover.
A basic for a shinobi is to conceal his presence and hide.
I leapt up into the tree that I left Kou-kun in. Taking a quick glance around I saw a glimmer of very thin chakra strings ready to be cut to set off any traps. Smiling, I jumped off to find a different hiding place. I stopped in a tree where the leaves covered my location but allowed me to see any fights. Closing my eyes, I focused myself to hide my chakra. When I felt my chakra being masked I opened my eyes and saw that Kakashi was glancing at the trees probably searching for my location. I snickered a bit when I saw that he couldn't find me.
Glancing to my left I saw that everyone had found a hiding spot. When I say everyone I mean everyone but Naruto. Sasuke was hiding in a tree a couple of meters away from myself, but he needs to be careful. He could be easily ambushed from the back. Sakura, being the loyal fangirl of my uncle that she is, was hiding in a bush that was under Sasuke's hiding place. Naruto... well Naruto was just standing in front of Kakashi challenging him to a fight.
"Idiot." I mumbled.
"Let's have a match fair and square!" Naruto yelled.
"Hey, aren't you a little weird compared to the rest?" Kakashi asked.
"What's weird is you're hairstyle!" Naruto pointed out as he ran for Kakashi.
I covered my mouth a little to stifle my giggling but stopped when I saw Kakashi's hand slip into one of his pouches. It's seems Naruto noticed too because he stopped in his tracks.
"Ninja tactic know-how number one, taijutsu. I'll teach you that first."
I narrowed my eyes. He sounded like he was talking to all of us, and wasn't taijutsu hand-to-hand combat. Why was he taking out a weapon? I glowered as Kakashi took out his weird book. Papa told me to never read those when he saw me holding one of Hidan's copies. After taking it away from me he immediately went and tortured Hidan. Just from that, I knew that that book was bad news.
"What's the matter? Come and get me." Kakashi said as he read his book.
"But, um, um... Why did you take out a book?" Naruto asked.
"Why? I got curious as to how the story is going to develop," Kakashi said lazily, "Don't worry about it. It's the same whether I read this or not."
I grumbled under my breath when Naruto took the bait.
"I'm going to pound you!" Naruto yelled, as he ran at Kakashi with a fist raised.
I watched as all of Naruto's attempts to hit Kakashi were futile. Suddenly, Kakashi was behind Naruto, in a squat position.
"A ninja should not let the enemy get behind him multiple times, idiot." Kakashi said.
My eyes widened when I saw that Kakashi's hands were positioned in the seal of the tiger.
But that seal was used mostly for fire techniques.
My eyes narrowed. Kakashi wouldn't even dare to attempt to burn his precious book.
What are you thinking?
"Naruto, run! You're going to die!" Sakura yelled.
I yelped at the sound of Sakura's voice and almost fell off the branch I was standing on. I sighed when I finally regained my balance but saw that Kakashi was glancing in my direction. I cursed under my breath, pouting a bit.
"You're too late," Kakashi said, "Hidden village of Konoha's secret taijutsu master art! A Thousand Years of Pain!"
I sweat dropped as I watched Naruto fly off into the lake.
Swiftly and quietly, I leapt from branch to branch, finding a new hiding spot. When I found a new hiding spot, I stared confused at Naruto, who was now dangling on a rope by his ankles.
What did I miss?
"Use you're techniques after thinking carefully. That's why is was used to your disadvantage, and... Don't fall for an obvious trap, stupid," Kakashi lectured, "Shinobi need to think beyond the normal."
"I already know!" Naruto yelled as he tried to escape his bonds.
"I'm telling you this because you don't get it, got it?"
I stared at Kakashi confused.
What?
My head snapped to the trees when I saw shuriken being thrown in Kakashi direction. I smirked a bit when Naruto began to panic when Kakashi was "hit" by the shuriken.
"Ah! He got hit!" Naruto panicked, "Sasuke overdid it!"
Before Kakashi's body hit the ground, smoke surrounded him and in his place was a piece of log, with Sasuke's weapons attached to it.
From the corner of my eye I could see Sasuke leaping from tree to tree, no doubt trying to find a new place to hide. I sighed when I saw that Sakura was following after him. Glancing back at Naruto I watched as he continued to struggle with his bonds. Before I jumped off the branch towards Naruto, I scanned the area and sensed that Kakashi wasn't nearby. I ran in front of where Naruto hung and took out a kunai from my weapons pouch.
"Naru-kun, do you need any help?" I asked.
"N-nope! I'm perfectly fine Emi-chan, believe it!" Naruto yelled.
I sighed again, as Naruto stubbornly refused my offer and continued to attempt to free himself. Holding up the kunai in my hand, I threw it at the rope and cut Naruto loose. I cringed when Naruto fell on his head.
"Naru-kun, are you okay?" I asked as I crouched by him.
"Y-yeah! I'm okay." Naruto groaned out.
When Naruto stood up, I immediately pushed him out of the way to avoid him from being caught in the second rope trap that Kakashi placed. Unfortunately for Naruto, he ended up bumping his head on the truck of the tree.
"Itai! What was that for Emi-chan?!" Naruto yelped, as he held the forming bump on his head.
Looking around, I sliced a long piece off the log that Kakashi used for his substitution jutsu using one of my katanas. I held the long piece of wood in my hand and placed the end of the wood where the trap was set. In seconds, the piece of wood was hanging like Naruto was minutes earlier.
"I saw Kashi-oji place a second trap in case you escaped the first one. My guess was that he was saving time for himself to see and evaluate the rest of the team." I stated.
"O-oh! I knew that, believe it!" Naruto said as he rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.
"Naru-kun, do you want to team up? Together with Sasu-oji and Saku-nee, we might be able to get the bells." I explained.
"Gomen Emi-chan! But as the future Hokage I gotta do this myself! Don't worry! I'll get you a bell too, believe!"
"B-but Naru-" Before I could even finish, Naruto ran off in search of Kakashi.
I sighed at the idiocy of my teammate. I jumped at the sound of a shrill scream filled my ears.
That sounded like Saku-nee.
Closing my eyes, I searched the area for her chakra signature. My eyebrows scrunched up when I found that Kakashi was standing in front of her. But something was off with Sakura's chakra signature. It was... wavering. As if something was tampering with it.
Genjutsu?
Snapping my eyes open, I leapt into the tress and jumped to where Sakura was located. I stopped when I found the pinkette passed out in the middle of a clearing. Narrowing my eyes, I surveyed the area but found no sign of Kakashi. Leaping out of the tree, I landing beside Sakura and knelt on one knee. Leaning over her, I placed one hand on her forehead and let green chakra envelope my hand. Using my medical ninjutsu, I analyzed Sakura's current situation.
Yup. Saku-nee just fell for one of Kashi-oji's genjutsus. But Kashi-oji should have used a different illusion. I can practically feel the fear radiating off of Saku-nee!
I sighed and let the green chakra slowly fade away. Placing my hands in a hand sign, I focused my chakra and changed the hand sign so that I was using one hand.
"Kai!" I muttered as I poked Sakura's forehead.
I jumped back as Sakura suddenly sat up looking frantic.
"Sa-Sasuke-kun!" She gasped.
"Saku-nee! Calm down! Sasu-oji is fine! It was a genjutsu!" I said holding her down.
"Gen-genjutsu?" Sakura muttered.
"Yes. It was only an illusion made by Kashi-oji." I nodded.
Sakura sighed as she placed a hand on her chest and took deep breaths to calm her beating heart.
"Hey Saku-nee, do you want to team up? If we team up with Naru-kun and Sasu-oji, we may be able to grab the bells from Kashi-oji." I asked as I stared at Sakura.
"Good idea Emi-chan! I'll go look for Sasuke-kun now!" Sakura said as she stood up and ran off to look for Sasuke.
"Ma-matte Saku-nee!" I said.
I sighed as Sakura disappeared from my view. I tensed as a heard a voice from behind me.
"Ninja tactics know-how number two, Genjutsu. Sakura fell for it too easily."
I turned and saw Kakashi standing behind me reading his book.
"It looks like it's your turn Emiko-chan. Ready?" Kakashi asked.
I shook my head no and saw one of Kakashi's eyebrow raise.
"I haven't finished asking the team if they wanted to team up. I just need to ask Sasu-oji now. I should be on my way. Ja ne, Kashi-oji." I smirked as Kakashi's eyes widened when my clone disappeared in a puff of smoke.
Kakashi's POV
"Shadow Clone Jutsu? As expected from an Uchiha." I muttered.
I closed my eyes and sighed once I couldn't locate Emiko's chakra signature.
Emiko-chan has great control over her chakra, and to be able to create a shadow clone without me noticing, she is without a doubt an Uchiha prodigy.
I lazily walked out of the clearing where Sakura was caught in my genjutsu and leaned against a tree when I saw the top graduate come into my view. I read my book as I listened to the young genin.
"Genjutsu, eh? A type of hallucinatory mind-controlling technique. It's no wonder if she fell for it so easily. But... I'm different from them. I won't fall for any of your petty traps like the others." Sasuke said.
"Why don't you say that after you get a bell, Sasuke-kun." I stated as I pushed myself off the tree I was leaning against and walked up to Sasuke until I was a few metres in front of him.
We stood face to face, waiting, waiting for any signs of an attack. Sasuke took out some kunai and shuriken from his weapons pouch before throwing them at me with great accuracy, but I easily evaded them.
"There's no use in just using normal attacks." I stated as I dodged the weapons.
Sasuke smirk, as he flung a kunai, cutting a rope from above. My eyes widened slightly as I slowed myself.
A trap?
I jumped out of the way as kunai and shuriken embedded themselves in the tree I was previously in front of. I slowed myself and glanced behind me when I felt the presence of my student.
What?
I blocked the kick that was aimed for my face with my arm. I held his left leg with my right hand and blocked the punch from his right hand with my left. Sasuke twisted in my grasp, aiming another kick with his left leg. I blocked it using my forearm. The genin smirked up at me as he reached for the bells with his free hand. My eyes widened slightly at this.
He's...
Pushing him off, I jumped back, creating a distance between the two of us. The two of us remained in a crouched position as we evaluated each other.
What a guy. I don't have time to read Icha Icha Paradise.
"I'll admit that you are different from the other two." I stated.
"Hn." Sasuke quickly created hand signs ending with the tiger sign.
"Fire style: Blazing fireball!" Sasuke said as he blew a huge fireball in my direction.
My eyes widened.
What? That technique isn't something a Genin can do... He shouldn't have enough chakra.
Creating quick hand signs, I dodged the attack.
Sasuke's POV
I blew a fireball at Kakashi and waited as the smoke dispersed. I tensed as I saw that he was no longer standing where he was.
He's gone... is he behind me? Above me? Where is he?
"Beneath you!" My eyes widened as I felt a hand grab my ankle.
"Wha-!"
"Earth style: Suicidal Heading!"
Before I could escape I was forced into the ground with only my head peaking out.
I glared at Kakashi as he smiled down at me with a closed eyes smile.
"This is the third ninja tactics know-how, Ninjutsu. How is it? Can't move, right?"
I turned my head to the side as I glared.
"Looks like your talents are exceptional. But... they say that stakes that point out get driven back into the ground." I glared at Kakashi's back as he walked away.
"Damn it!" I scowled as I tried to escape.
"Do you need help, Sasu-oji?"
I looked up and saw Emiko smiling down at me from a tree branch.
Emiko's POV
I giggled at the sight of my uncle's head sticking out from the ground. Jumping down, I walked up to him and crouched down in front of his bodiless form.
"So do you, Sasu-oji?" I asked.
Sasuke blushed as he turned to the side with a slight blush on his cheeks.
"If you would, Hime-chan."
Giggling, I did some hand signs and placed my hands on the ground.
"Earth style: breaking grounds!"
I watched at the ground around Sasuke began to break apart, allowing him to escape. As he climbed out, he dusted himself off and patted my head.
"Arigatō, Hime-chan." Sasuke muttered.
"No problem Sasu-oji. But do you want to team up? If we get the others, we'll be able to get the bells." I said.
"No Hime-chan. I could do this alone. I was able to touch the bells. I don't need the others. Just stay here and be safe. I'll get the bells for the two of us." Sasuke muttered as he passed me.
I pouted at his retreating figure and jumped into the trees to search for Kakashi.
I smirked when I found him in the middle of a clearing reading his book.
Jumping down in front of him i took out a kunai and threw it at him. Before it could reach him, however, Kakashi caught it between his index and middle finger.
"I see your finally going to fight Emiko." Kakashi said as he looked up from his book.
"Hai! I have already asked the others if they wanted to team up, but they all got different ideas. Naru-kun wanted to prove that he was strong enough because he was to be the next Hokage, Saku-nee actually did want to team up but only with Sasu-oji, and Sasu-oji thought that he could do it all by himself." I said pouting.
"At least you understand the concept of this exercise. Are you ready Emiko?" Kakashi asked as he placed his book back in his weapons pouch and took out a kunai.
"Huh? You're not going to read your book Kashi-oji?" I asked.
"Hmmm... Well I have a feeling that I won't have time to read if it's you I'm fighting against." Kakashi stated.
I smirked and took out another kunai and got into position.
"Then let's start... sensei."
The two of us smirked before leaping at each other with our weapons in hand.
To be continued....
