Chara rarely left Asriel's side. She couldn't. She'd been lost for so long, first killed by the hands of humans, then stuck with a horrible sadistic human who's sadistic DETERMINATION influenced her own soul, then stuck inside Papyrus, who's love and goodness helped her come back to herself. When Papyrus threw her away from his body, Asriel saved her from hitting the ground with a field of Golden Flowers. He was still a flower, but Chara still hugged him tightly. When he was returned to his true form, he was able to hug her back.

They couldn't be separated no matter what. She was eventually taken home with Asriel by four adults and a human child she often saw around Sans. When they got home, Asriel quickly took her to his room when they heard three of the humans sobbing. Asriel's room brought her a sense of calm she hadn't felt in a long time. They curled around each other and drifted into sleep.

Shota and Hizashi found them like that. Asriel lay slightly on top of the girl they assumed was Chara. She wasn't dead, but appeared to have a ghost quirk, or something similar in magic terms. She had dried tears crusted to her pink cheeks, yet she smiled as she slept. They couldn't stand the thought of separating them. Asriel had looked to them with so much desperation that they had to take her home. The police would have questions for her, as well as the hero commission and probably Nezu too.

The absolute least they could do for her would be letting her have a good night's sleep and a good, hearty breakfast. They could push off the interrogations for at least a week, but couldn't stonewall them forever.

They didn't get any sleep that night. They sat awake with Ichika and Natsumi in silence and with coffee. Eijirou was passed out on the couch with Mayo curled in his arms.

Natsumi - "Shota, Hizashi. What is the likelihood that Sans is still alive?"

Ichika's breath hitched and she quickly left the kitchen.

Shota - "I'll be straight with you, it's very probable, but you won't like why."

Natsumi - "Just spit it out."

Hizashi - "I'm going to go sit with Ichika."

Hizashi kissed Shota's temple and left the kitchen.

Shota - "I caught a glimpse of the portal that took Sans. It was created by a mist covered villain that worked for the League. At the USJ and the Sports Festival, they saw how powerful Sans's magic was. And now that everyone had seen what Sans truly looks like, they most likely kidnapped him for experimentation or torture."

Natsumi - "Dammit."

She pressed the heels of her palms into her eyes.

Papyrus - "I can't believe I ever looked up to you. You tortured everyone around you and you seem to hold no regard to those you've hurt. You've killed both monsters and humans, for what? The war has been over for centuries and yet you still hold onto the notion that you'll still win if only you can make the perfect warriors."

Papyrus had a section of the VOID where he was surrounded by unspeakable horrors. Many he recognized as monsters of myth and legend. Ancient Gods whose names and languages have been lost to time. And they were going to spend a long time teaching the Royal Scientist, what he had done was wrong.
