John B looked outside the chicken coop seeing the two men come out and put boxes in their car.

"Do something Pope shut him up" JJ said motioning to the rooster. "What do you want me to do" Pope asked.

"Pet it or talk to it I don't know" Kie said. John B resumed back to his spot next to Kie once he noticed one of the two men were looking. "You do something" Pope said.

JJ grabbed the rooster and killed it. Adeline noticed the regret on his face and put her hand on his shoulder.

JJ looked at her and smiled at her grateful before sitting next to her while Adeline noticed John B holding Kie's hand. "Rattler what are you doing let's go" One of the men told his partner.

Eventually the two men left, and Adeline let out a breath of relief.

"For a second there I thought we were goners" Adeline said.

"I mean it's obvious right a family heirloom I mean what better place to hide a message he had to know it was gonna get back to me and Adi right" John B said. "Yeah, it's possible" Kie said.

"It could also be possible they you're concocting wild theories to help you know deal with your sad feels" Pope said.

"Bro, you know how I process my sad feels dank nugs and the stickiest of ickies that's how I do it" JJ said. "I'm not concocting okay my dad's trying to give me a message" John B said.

"If it helps you believe John B" Kie said. "Adi, you believe me right" John B asked her.

"John B I gave up on dad a long time ago but if you think he's sending a message then he's sending a message" Adeline said.

"Look I don't need a therapy session okay I'm not tripping out" John B said. "It's okay to trip bro but" JJ said when John B interrupted.

"Look my dad is missing mine and Adi's missing you don't know what it's like to have the person closest to you vanish and then have no idea what happened just wake up every morning wondering" John B said.

"it's been almost a year" Kie said. "He could have been kidnapped I guess you never know" Adeline said. "That's definitely a possibility" JJ said.

"Yeah, could be in a Soviet sub getting interrogated by the KGB somewhere" Pope said.

"Absolutely uh or Atlantas" JJ said. "Anywhere really I just hope it's not Mexico crazy stuff always happens in Mexico" Adeline said. "Adi" Kie said, and Adeline stayed quiet.

"Look what do you think the message is" Kie asked John B. "Redfield, Redfield lighthouse" John B said. "Dad's favorite place" Adeline said.

As they arrived at their destination, they all got out of the car. "Right, here's what's gonna happen" John B said going to JJ and Adeline.

"You're gonna post up and look for bogeys okay" John B said. "Wait why me" JJ asked.

"Because you're not coming" Pope said. "Why" JJ asked. "There are independent and dependent variables and you're independent we don't know what you'll do" Pope said.

"Shut up, shut up" JJ said talking over Pope. "Just shut up" JJ said.

"Listen to me for a second just listen Pope you and Adi stand look out for JJ okay if we get split up, we meet back at JJ's house" JJ said. "Great" Kie said.

"Did you call him" John B asked Adeline. "Call who" JJ asked.

"An old friend of mine y'all never met him but John B has heard me talk to him from time to time and he could really help with this stuff aside from being obsessed with treasure hunts like I told you all earlier he knows the guy who works here he can help" Adeline said.

"Wait did you tell him about" John B asked when Adeline interrupted.

"I had to, or he wouldn't have helped but don't worry he's a Pogue and he knows I'll kill him if he ever says anything besides, he kind of has a soft spot for me" Adeline said.

"Like Rafe" John B said. "Okay we gross shut up and go he's waiting for you" Adeline said and John B and Kie left.

"I'm gonna work on my merit scholarship essay and I'm trying to keep felonies down to a minimum" Pope said.

"Alright would you just shut up already" JJ said. "Seriously can we go five minutes without you talking about your stupid scholarship" Adeline asked.

No just curious" JJ said, and Adeline nodded.

"His name's Alex" Adeline told JJ. "And how do you two know each other" JJ asked. "Let's just say we have history" Adeline said looking at JJ.

"But don't worry you can trust him trust me he'd rather go to jail then tell the kooks anything" Adeline said. "If you trust him then so do I" JJ said and Adeline smiled.

"He's only ever met dad and dad loved him in fact I never told anyone this but when dad went missing or they were saying he was lost in sea I became terrified of the ocean wouldn't go in the ocean for months I always made up some excuse when anyone would go but Alex, he uh helped me through my fear he was there for me" Adeline said.

Suddenly they heard police cars and Adeline dialed a number.

"Hey Alex, it's me Adi, tell my brother there's cops and we couldn't wait thanks" Adeline said and hung up.

"Let's go" JJ said and got in the car with Adeline and Pope and drove off.

"John B what are you doing" Adeline asked seeing John B, walk in the house. "Wait did you clean" Adeline asked.

"More on that later come on we got to get the others tell Alex to meet up with JJ and Pope and we'll pick him up" John B said leaving.

"Wait what's going on John B" Adeline asked and sighed.

"She says she's not coming" Pope said coming out of the wreck. "Why not" JJ asked, and Adeline noticed John B's facial expression.

"What did you do" Adeline asked.  "Hang on I'll deal with it" John B said. "Get me if you need back up" Alex said and John B left.

"Any idea what your brother is dragging us into" Alex asked Adeline. "Nope not a one" Adeline said.

"You mind if I just relax on this one it's been a long day and a lot of weird stuff's gone down, I'm just gonna lay low" JJ said. "Oh, did you want a hit of this" JJ asked Pope.

"I keep the signal clear" Pope said. "Dude okay do you understand that your problem is that you don't get creative if you got creative then" JJ said.

"JJ leave him alone" Adeline said. "You mind if I have a hit" Alex asked and JJ gave it to him allowing Alex to have a hit before he gave it back to JJ.

"Look I know I was wrong about the lighthouse alright and pretty much wrong about everything else going on, but I was right about one thing okay" John B said and looked at Adeline.

"Adi dad is trying to tell me something maybe even you I know he is please, believe me" John B said. "I do" Adeline said and John B smiled.

"Come on hey, hey come on" John B said. "I'm coming this place is scary" Kie said.

"John B what are we doing" Adeline asked. "You know snakes crawl around here I'm terrified of snakes" Adeline said. "Even the fake ones" Alex said remembering.

"I will hit you" Adeline told Alex. "Okay so you know how you're trying to remember a song and you can't remember who sings it" John B asked.

"Yeah" Kie said. "So, Redfield this whole time I thought it was a place right but it's not a place it's a person" JJ said and they stopped once they saw Redfield's name.

"See Adi and my great, great grandmother Olivia Redfield that was her maiden name" JJ told everyone. "Help me with the door" Alex said.

"Alright" Pope said as he went to help Alex. "One, two, three" Alex said. "Go" Kie said.

"Are you pushing" Pope asked as JJ and John B went to help. "Yeah, I'm pushing" Alex said.

"Come on" Pope said. "Hold o I got it" JJ said. "This door is like 700 pounds it's not gonna budge" Pope said. "We didn't come this far to get this far alright" JJ said.

"Snake" Adeline said backing away. "Oh, heck no" Adeline said.

"That's a moccasin alright" JJ said once he, Alex, Pope, and John B backed away from the door.

"Ye olde Dr cottonmouth death in tall grass" JJ said and started barking at the snake. "JJ shut up, shut up" Kie said.

"You're gonna wake the dead man" Alex said. "They're afraid of dogs everyone knows that" JJ said. "Wait hold on, hold one" JJ said. "What" Adeline said.

"If there's one there's probably dozens all around" JJ said. "What" Pope said. "Oh my god, can you stop you're scaring me" Kie said as JJ started barking again.

"Stop barking at the snakes" John B told JJ. "Just making sure it's clear" JJ said.

"John B look I love you you're my brother but we're not gonna get in there it's not budging" Adeline said.

"We should probably just go" Pope said. "I can get through" Kie said. "What" John B said. "No, no, no, no you think you're gonna fit through the hole that hole" John B asked.

"Look this is about your dad and honestly I don't really believe in it but you deserve to know the truth I'll do it" Kie said.

"Please be careful" Adeline said. "Can you help me with that" Kie asked as they moved the branches. "I got it" John B said. "You got it" Kie asked.

"Yeah, we got it" Pope said. "I'll give you a boost" Alex said. "Remind me what we're looking for" Kie said.

"You'll know when you see it" John B said. "Hold my flashlight" Kie said giving her flashlight to Adeline and Alex gave Kie a boost.

Adeline noticed the look on Alex's face and smiled to herself.

"Okay flashlight" Kie said, and Adeline gave her, her flashlight. "You alive you got like a heartbeat and everything" John B asked. "So far" Kie said.

"That's good, that's good" John B said. "Yep" Kie said. "Uh I need some more light" Kie said.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah here yeah I got you" John B said shining more, light. "Did you find something" JJ asked as Adeline went to Alex. "So, you still have that crush on Kie" Adeline asked Alex.

"Shush she can hear but yes" Alex told Adeline who smiled at him. "Is there gold" JJ asked Kie. "Oh my god" Kie said seeing what it was.
