Chapter Fourteen
A week passes and Evan was true to his word.
The very next day Isabel called her mother and told her that he was allowing for her to move in with her while she was staying here. At first her mother protested, not wanting to impose until Evan took the phone from her and sweetly convinced her to move in.
It didn't take very much convincing on his part as her mother became completely smitten just by the sound of his voice. Isabel couldn't help rolling her eyes at that, but she completely understood how her mother felt when it concerned the deep, smooth, sexy voice of Evan Conner.
He called a moving company service and together they went across town to start packing everything up and transfer her mother to his home. As soon as she saw the place she was flabbergasted and seemed extremely pleased.
Whispering in her daughter's ear, "Whatever you do, you keep this one honey."
"Mom!" She hisses as she watched him bring in a few boxes in the mother house. The muscles he kept displaying gave her pause every single time and all she wanted to do was attack him right there on the floor in front of her mother and all just to have her way.
Throughout the following week is was a bliss filled world for them both as they couldn't seem to keep their hands from each other. Secretly hiding their growing relationship from others and especially from Shasta. She wasn't sure how the little girl would take her father dating someone new. But as the weeks flew by the two of them were getting closer and closer each and every day they spent together, only convincing Evan even more that Isabel was the woman he wanted to be with forever.
The bond between his daughter and Isabel was more than he could hope for and with her mother thriving in the home, having a child to help look after, the love and happiness growing was overwhelming that he was afraid something awful was going to happen to burst all their happy little bubble.
And Jared pointed it out sooner than he wanted to face.
"How does Kristan take you and Isabel being together?" He asked him one evening as the Cooper's came over for dinner.
Mila and Isabel were in the backyard sitting in the plush outdoor chairs as the bonfire pit flamed with burning embers of the firewood. Shasta wasn't too far from them as she played with a little stuffed animal showing baby Cale as Isabel's mother sat enjoying the scene.
"Besides her trying to do all she can to get her sacked, popping up whenever the hell she wants when I'm not around, she actually doesn't know yet. I'm afraid of what she's going to do when she does find out."
"You can't keep hiding it forever if you plan to spend the rest of your life with this one. Hell with anyone Evan. Don't let her control your personal life too." Jared pressed.
He sighs heavily. "I know that. But everything is happy and quiet right now. I don't want to stir the pot and cause Isabel to feel stuck in a situation she shouldn't be in."
"If the two of you plan to make this work in the long run she has to understand its going to get complicated and she will need to get into the middle of the stickiness of this hellhole Kristen put you in. If she wants the two of you she'll dive in with no hesitation."
He hoped so. Looking at them out there gave him hope that she was willing to be a part of a dramatized relationship that another coparent forced them to be in. And just as they got up to join the women outside the doorbell rings loud and clear getting all their attention. Isabel looks through the glass doors at him with a slight frown that he was mirroring himself.
"Was anyone else coming?" Jared asks.
"No, I didn't invite anyone else. I'll be right back." With that he quickly went to the foyer and opened his front door.
Standing on the other side was an older man looking like he worked for landscaping or something. With a deeper frown Evan asks, "Can I help you?"
He wondered how he was able to get through his gates when he made sure to lock them after Jared and Mila arrived. Only a code could get you in.
"Sorry to bother you sir, but this was left in my mailbox, and I think it may be yours." He hands out a large yellow envelope. Evan took it without hesitation. And before he could even read who it was addressed too the man continues with,
"You've been served sir." And without another word the old man stalks off as quickly as he could.
Dread seeped into his bloodstream as he ripped the contents open and quickly scans what was written on the white papers.
"What the hell is it?" Jared demands as he stood right behind him catching the last part of their conversation.
Boiling rage filled him like never before. "Fucking bitch." Looking right at his best friend he grits out, "Kristen filed for full custody of Shasta. She's taking me to court."
