Chapter 2: Mis-fortunes
"ARYA EVERLEIGH! GET UP RIGHT NOW!", my mother yelled up the stairs. "YOU'RE GOING TO BE LATE FOR YOUR FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!"
"I'm coming mom," I said.
I don't understand why mothers have to yell up the stairs at you to get you up. They could be kind. Being kind meaning, coming upstairs into your room and gently waking you. Anyways, I kept thinking about that black cat I saw. It scared me and I didn't know what it meant or why it was there. I just knew it was bad; anyway I went downstairs to ask my mom about it.
"Mom?" I asked. "What is the meaning of seeing a black cat?"
"It means that you will have many misfortunes in the near future.," My mother replied. "Have you seen a black cat?"
"Yes, I have...", I said, now worried. "Yesterday morning"
"Okay then, let's get you to school before you are late." Mom said, changing the subject. "After all, it is your first day of school!"
I couldn't stop thinking about what misfortunes I was going to have. It scared me. Today was my first day of school, and I didn't want to have misfortunes. Was I not going to be able to make friends, get bad grades, or get scolded by the teachers? I wouldn't know until things started to happen. I guess I would have to figure things out myself.
