Chapter Sixteen: What's Love?
I pulled the trigger on the revolver.
*Click*
I lowered the revolver and opened the cylinder. It counted only 5 bullets when there should be six.
"I wonder where that other bullet went."
I closed the cylinder and made sure that one of the bullets were behind the hammer this time.
I began to move the gun towards my head until I heard a creek of a door opening. I dropped the revolver to the side while Sayori walked in.
"Hey why aren't you downstairs with me?" She said.
"O-Oh no reason..." I said.
"Why did Scarlett walk out the door...?" Sayori said.
She scanned the room and saw the bag on the floor that was over flowing with jewely, money, and other important things to me and the girls.
"Oh...she was trying to steal from us..." Sayori said.
"Yeah..." I said.
"You didn't um...you didn't kill her did you?" Sayori asked shyly.
"No...but you won't have to worry about her anymore." I said sadly.
Sayori walked over to the foot of the bed and took a seat next to me. She looked over at the revolver and picked it up.
"I remember when we would run around with these ol' things. Taking out the bad guy and always on the run." Sayori said in a playful voice.
Sayori opened the cylinder of the revolver and emptied the bullets onto the floor. I looked closely at the bullets.
"Jesus Monika...hollow points? Are you trying to blow the people into pieces?" I though to myself.
"You were always so brave when you would hold your gun Spencer." Sayori said.
"Brave?"
"Yeah. I mean you would only pull it out when necessary...but when it was necessary, it was to save is all." Sayori said.
"Well that's just because I care about you guys. I mean I've killed more people than I care to mention but...I'm just a monster I guess..."
"You're not a monster. You're like a strong big brother that's always beating up the school bully whenever they mess with us." Sayori said.
She stretched her arms into the air and began to lean to the side. She laid her head down on my lap and smiled while she looked up at me.
"You always look after us... especially me. Whenever I get myself into something bad...you always get me out of it. You're like my Gaurdian angel..." She said.
I smirked at Sayori and she sat up. She pulled out her small desert box and opened it. She grabbed a small plastic fork and scooped a piece of cheesecake out of the box.
"Open wiiiide." She said while she pointed the fork at my mouth.
I hesitantly opened my mouth while Sayori put the piece of cheesecake in.
I tasted the cheesecake and it was really rich. Sayori just looked at my face and started giggling.
"You know you don't always have to look after me...I can look after you too." Sayori said.
"Sorry...it's just the way I grew up..." I said.
"I know but... me and you know each other...if there's something you need to tell me...please tell me." She said.
"There is one thing that I need to tell you Sayori..." I said.
"W-What is it...?"
"I love you."
Sayori's face turned a bright shade of red while she covered her mouth, hiding her smile.
"I love you too!" She said while wrapping her arms around my sides.
I let out a faint smile.
"Why was I about to leave all of this..." I mumbled to myself.
"Because you blame yourself...you don't realize that we love you too." Sayori said in a soft voice.
I wasn't expecting Sayori to hear that comment. I guess Sayori saw that I was about to shoot myself. That explains why she unloaded the revolver.
Sayori let go of me and stood up in front of me.
"Now stop being so antisocial, let's go downstairs!" She said while pulling my two arms.
Sayori tried to pull me off the bed but she wasn't strong enough. She just gave up and staired at me.
"Fine..." I said.
I stood up and Sayori grabbed me hand. She led me downstairs into the living room. She sat me down on the couch and she sat next to me.
Everyone else was in the room and they all staired at me.
"Hey where did Scarlett just go?" Monika asked.
"She just tried to steal all of our stuff...but luckily my hero, Spencer, stopped her." Sayori said while hugging my arm tightly.
"Y-Yeah..." I said while agreeing with Sayori.
"That explains a lot then...she was always asking where Monika keeps her jewelry and stuff." Natsuki said.
"I felt a bad essence come off of her..." Yuri said.
"Well we don't have to worry about her anymore now!" Sayori said in an upbeat voice.
"Hey guys can I tell you all something...very important..." I said.
This was the first time that I've had all of the girls together. Now would be a good time, if any, to tell them about the third eye book.
"Sure." Monika said.
"Um, what is it?" Yuri said.
"What do you want?" Natsuki said.
"I'll listen to anything." Sayori said.
"You...You all have been possessed." I said.
A sheer look of terror came over the girls faces as I said that.
"W-what do you mean?" Natsuki said in a scared voice.
"The third eye. I was recruited to destroy the source of the third eye in this universe. The third eye infected Monika first." I said while pointing at Monika.
"Th-The third eye?!" Yuri said.
"The third eye would "Infect" people through the words of Monika's poems...so whenever we would share poems, the third eye would enter your soul." I said. "Since I didn't look directly at the real paper, I was immune of being infected."
"S-spencer what did this third eye look like exactly?" Monika said.
I grabbed a piece of paper and Yuri handed me one of her pens, which seemed oddly familiar. I sketeched a quick drawing of the eye.
I showed Monika the paper and all color escaped her face as she turned the drawing around to show the other girls.
"The third eye made Monika do what she...did. The third eye manipulated your souls and put you insecurities into overdrive." I said.
"That's the eye I saw in my nightmares..." Natsuki said.
"Same here..." Monika said.
"Me too." Sayori said.
"Spencer...what was the source of the third eye?!" Yuri said in an overly concerned voice.
"The Portrait Of Markov. In the book it shows the effects of what happens when the third eye completely takes over your soul." I said. "You become a blood thirsty killer with no remorse. Your only objective is to kill." I said.
The girls looked down at their hands and then the looked at each other still in shock.
"I've destroyed the book, which was the source of the third eye. You all are perfectly fine...you all have free will." I said.
"S-So what Monika did in the game...that wasn't actually...her?" Natsuki said in disbelief.
"That would be a correct observation." I said.
Natsuki and Sayori looked over at Monika in disbelief. The person that they once learned to hate and nothing more, wasn't actually the person they thought she was. It wasn't Monika's fault.
"Monika I'm...I'm..sorry..." Natsuki said.
I walked out of the room and into the kitchen. Yuri followed closely behind me. I poured out a small glass of Hennessy and turned around to see Yuri standing right in front of me.
"Y-You saved us from the third eye...didn't you?"
"Well I mean...I had no other choice..." I said.
Yuri wrapped her arms around me and kissed me. I opened one of my eyes to see the rest of the girls staring at me and Yuri.
Yuri held me there for about 7 seconds until she let go. She gave me a hug and put her head up against my chest.
"You saved me..."
