I glanced at James, who stood before me. Holding his hand out he helped me to stand to my feet.
"What do you mean? Me? Why me?" I sling my arm around his neck as he held me by my waist, walking to the door.
"I don't know, Jewels, but that was Mick. He said Nathan will only talk to you."
"I do not want to be alone with him." It was true because I knew he was sent to end my life, therefore I did not trust him.
"I'm not going to let that happen, babe," James assured me and kissed my cheek. "I'll be with you the entire time, okay?"
I nodded as we exited James's hut.
"Took you long enough to get her." Mick was leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. "Jeremy is waiting at the holding room."
"Holding room?" I tensed up, remembering how they held me in a similar place when I first arrived here. So much has happened since then.
I was first abandoned all those years ago then imprisoned by the humans, and now, now I help them, I live amongst them but there was one thing I would never be.
I would never be one of them.
"Jewels?" I did not even know I had stopped walking until James spoke and placed his hands on my shoulders. "You don't have to do this."
"I know, but I want to," I told him. I wanted to find out why Nathan did not make me sleep forever when he had the chance. "I will do this."
"No." His hazel eyes looked deep into my blue ones, I opened my mouth to question why he had said no, but he spoke first, "We will do this together, Jewels." In a swift movement his lips locked with mine as he gave me a quick kiss then pulled away.
"Come on, lovebirds." Mick rolled his eyes with a chuckle.

Upon arriving at the new place of holding I noticed Jeremy leaning against a tree near the small doors. His eyes met mine and he smiled.
"Good, you're here." He pushed his body away from the tree and stood before us. "James, I need you to go check the main gate, hopefully they—"
"What? Why? I'm going with Ja—"
"No," Jeremy held his hand up and I felt James tense beside me. "Listen, I need to talk to Nathan, the only way I'll be able to do that is with Jewels."
James turned to me, taking my hands in his, and said, "You'll be fine with Jeremy. I'll be back when I can, okay?"
I gave him a nod and leaned in connecting our lips. This was the first time I had kissed James.
I felt James's hands fall to my waist and he pulled my body flush against him. A cough behind us made us pull apart.
"Geez," Mick shook his head with his arms crossed across his chest and a smirk on his lips.
"I'll be back." With a kiss on my cheek James walked around us and disappeared down a street.
Jeremy opened the door for me. "Mick, stay out here," he instructed. Mick nodded. "No one comes in."
"You got it, boss."
"Come, Jewels." Jeremy smiled and motioned for me to go inside.
I did as he wanted and walked through the door with Jeremy following behind me. Once the door was closed, Jeremy released a large amount of air.
"He's this way but be careful, I don't trust him."
I nodded and followed Jeremy into a hallway. The hallway was not very long and at the end there were two large heavily locked doors.
Jeremy took keys from his pocket and unlocked several locks before he pushed the doors open and stepped inside. "I brought Jewels, so talk."
My eyes widened when I saw him. Nathan was seated on a chair, arms tied to the arm rests and feet tied to the legs of the chair. His face was bloody and one of his eyes were black.
"You beat him?" I asked, annoyed because James had told me that Nathan saved my life.
"Yes," Jeremy walked over to Nathan. "He wouldn't give answers."
"So you thought beating me would make me talk," Nathan spat blood onto the floor and then he looked up at me. "Hi, Jewels, you look better than before."
"Why were you seen leaving the ROGS hideout?" Jeremy took no time to start asking Nathan questions. "Answer me, god damn it!"
ROGS? He was seen leaving their hideout?
"It was Derek, was it not?" I spoke up and walked around Jeremy, who grabbed my wrist. My gaze fell on his hand that was wrapped around mine. "Jerem—"
"Yes," this caused Jeremy to release my wrist and spin around to Nathan whose eyes were on me. "Yes, Jewels, it was Derek. He wanted me to kill you, but I couldn't." He closed his eyes briefly before yelling, "And now because I was weak my mum is going to die!"
"What do you mean?"
"Derek has her, he tried to use her against me," he replied looking at Jeremy. "She's all I have left, I can't lose her, I just can't."
I took a step towards him. "You will not have to."
"Jewels? What are you doing?" Jeremy was about to grab my hand but I pulled away.
"I will rescue your Mother."
Nathan's eyes shot to me, they were glassy and looked as though tears were about to spill. "Why, Jewels? You don't even know me, I could be doing this just to get you to the ROGS."
"That's why she's not going." Jeremy grabbed my hands and began to pull me away from Nathan. "You're not going, Jewels. I don't trust him."
"I know what it is like to lose your Mother, Jeremy. I know the pain." I tried to reason with him, but it was useless. Jeremy pushed me from the room and locked the doors. "We must help—"
"I said no, and that's final." Jeremy spun around to face me, his eyes scanning my face. "Look, it's not that I don't want to help, it's just I can't risk putting you in danger."
"I can look after myself."
"It's not that, Jewels." He released a sigh and placed the keys back in his pocket then ran his hand through his hair.
I crossed my arms over my chest. "Then what is it?"
Shaking his head Jeremy walked around me then looked over his shoulder, and said, "I can't tell you."
"I do not have to understand you."
"Good," he spat, not looking back. "Because you wouldn't understand."
I was left in the hallway by myself, I watched as Jeremy walked to the exit. I did not understand, one day he was nice and the next day he was bitter towards me.
What have I ever done to him?
