James released his hand from my mouth as the Borums scanned the area, splashing in the shallow water. James suddenly shoved me with such force that I fall through the waterfall and into the water.
I swim to the water's edge and stood up, the water stopping around my waist. "What did you—" as I turned around I noticed James was gone. "James? Where—"
"Over here, babe."
I turned around again, this time my eyes widened and my mouth opened in shock. "What is going on?"
James stood in front of the Borum's, a smirk was plastered over his face. "Come here, baby." I did not even see him move or pass me, yet there he was.
"I do not—" then I realised how James swam with ease in the water when I knew he could not swim. "You ... you are a—"
"Borum?" he nodded chuckling and then stepped further into the water. "You're a smart girl, no wonder the humans want to keep you all to themselves." Turning to a Borum close to him he whispered something and then took a few steps towards me.
"Why, James? Why change your appearance as him?" I found myself asking.
James, the Borum, smirked. "Because we needed information on Camp Jameson, sadly I didn't get it. However we still have James. You see, pretty girl, James never returned from that raid."
Then it hit me, if James never returned from the raid with Lucy then I was not James's girl fred. There was a possibility he did not even feel the same way as I, and this meant that I ate lips with a Borum. "Where is he?" I could not help but feel the pinch in my heart knowing James and I never became—
"Dead," he spat taking another step forwards. "I'm afraid, you're all alone, Jewels. These humans, they don't want you, they'll abandon you."
No, James could not—it was not true!
I could feel tears forming in my eyes, it was not long until the first one slid down my cheek and dropped into the water around me. "They are my friends."
"You don't have any friends."
I sink into the water, allowing it to rise until the water was covering most of my body, only my head remained out. "I do have friends!"
"Yeah? Where are they?"
"Right here!" A loud gunshot ripped through the air and the Borum that looked like James suddenly falls into the water with a splash. This causes the other Borums to run to the fallen Borum near me. "Jewels, get out of there!"
James was gone.
"No!" I screamed standing up in the water. "No! No! No!" The water surrounding me began to glow. I looked at my reflection only to see the veins on my face glowing with the energy racing through them. "You will pay! You will all pay for this!"
Every vein in my body glowed brightly, lighting up the night. I walked towards the Borum lifting my hands in the air and I screamed, "You will pay!" And with a grunt I bring my hands into the water, releasing the energy within.
Streams of light moved across the top of the water until they connected with the Borums. The Borums then exploded into ash.
I cried loudly, I could feel a pain in my chest I felt when my mother and father sent me to the stars. I felt abandoned.
"Jewels," his voice was hardly heard over my sobs and the sound of the energy surging through my veins. "Jewels, calm down."
"Leave me," I told him between my cries. "Leave me, because you are not real."
I froze when his hand touched my shoulder. "I said leave me!" I turned around and came face-to-face with James. "I am a monster, a lonely monster, and you are not—"
His lips suddenly came in contact with mine, but I did not kiss him back, I did not even move because how can something so fake feel so real?
His hands grabbed my waist and pulled me flush up against him while his lips separated from me. "I'm real, Jewels."
"But—"
"That Borum was trying to get with you, Jewels. I'm here." I found myself giving into his touch and I rested my head against his chest, releasing sobs as my body trembled. "I only went to the toilet, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry I left."
"I do not understand?"
He sucked in a deep breath and said, "When I threw you into the water, I really needed a pee so I quickly went. But when I came back you were gone and when I saw the Borums—" he paused, wrapping his arms tightly around me as we stood in the water. "I thought they got you."
"James, you cannot be near me." I forced myself from him, ignoring the sting in my heart. "I am a monster, James."
He shook his head. "No, Jewels."
"Look at me!" I pointed to my glowing body. "I cannot control it! I can destroy this entire world!"
"But you won't." He reached out and took my hands. "You won't because, Jewels, you're not alone regardless of what the Borum said, you are not alone." He pulled me to his chest again. "Jewels, I lov—"
"What's going on?"
James was quick to pull away from me as Jeremy and Mick emerged from the trees.
He rubbed his hands over my back and sides, and I leaned into his touch. And just by his touch alone calmed me; I could feel the energy subsiding and finally my veins returned to normal.
With a kiss to my forehead James turned to Jeremy, and said, "We ran into Borums."
I watched as Jeremy's eyes widened. James quickly said, "Don't worry, Jewels killed them." He whispered into my ear, "And no matter what happens, I'll never think of you as a monster."
Somehow his words were relaxing.
"Oh, what about the bright light?" Mick questioned, watching us as James lead me out of the water.
"Don't worry about it," James said, slipping his hand into mine while we walked over to Jeremy. "Borums are getting clever, one of them tricked Jewels into thinking it was me."
"We need to be cautious," Jeremy responded, never making eye contact with me. "It's late, so I suggest the two of you get some sleep."
"Come, Jewels." James pulled me along with him.
I looked over my shoulder and Jeremy's gaze locked with my own, his eyes scanned mine like he was searching for something. But with a shake of his head he turned away.
