Chapter 2: Outside world

Planet: Earth

Location: Unkown

"Mother!" I cried as I scrambled out of my capsule. My eyes scanned the surrounding area.

I had crashed in what looked like some type of forest, but these trees were green, unlike the red ones from home and the ground beneath was brown. I knelt down and scooped up some of this brown substance in my hand, stuck my tongue out and licked it.

I spat it out immediately and wiped my tongue. "What is this place?"

The second I stood up I could feel a presence behind one of the trees, but according to my onboard computer system, this world is supposed to be uninhabited.

"Father?" I took a step backwards to my capsule but arms wrapped around me, holding me tight. "Release me!"

"Feisty thing, this one," a voice murmured in my ears. Warm breath fanned across my neck, "Where are you from?" His grip tightened.

"I am from the stars."

Laughter erupted from his lungs. "The stars? What do you take me for girl?"

I felt something sharp pierce my neck and a loud gasp escaped from my throat. "Please! Do not do this! Please!" I had had enough of killing, I did not want to kill this person. "S-stop!" I tried again, but he did not listen.

He pressed the needle further into my skin. "Hush, child, you're coming with us."

"No!"

"Miss."

"No, please!"

"Wake up."

"Please, stop this!" My vision began to fade. I could only hear soft voices but the strange words I could hear did not seem to fit the moving of this man's mouth.

"Hey, I'm not going to hurt you."

I felt my body being shaken and instantly my eyelids flung open. I gasped, my breathing heavy, and sweat collected on my forehead.

A dream? It was a dream, and somehow that settled me, knowing it was just a dream.

"W-who ..." I tried to sit up, but my body would not let me.

"Easy." My eyes were met by the hazel ones I had seen before. He studied my face with concern written across his. "Do you have a name?"

"Of course she has a name, James."

I turned my head to the right where another male stood in what seemed to be a doorway. This guy had blue eyes with no marks on his arms, unlike the first man I now know is James.

"W-where am I?"

"You're at—" A loud noise caused me to snap my head to James's direction.

The second man had slapped the back of James's head before he said, "Are you crazy, James? Giving our location to a stranger?"

"You just told this stranger my name, so thank you, Jeremy."

James, the man with the black hair and marks on his skin, speaks differently to Jeremy.

"Well, now you know our names, can we know yours?" James asked, sitting on the bed beside me, his eyes never leaving mine.

I nodded, disconnecting eye contact with James to look at Jeremy. "My name is Jewels."

"Ah, that name is unique." Jeremy flashes a smile, running a hand through his light brown hair, before taking out his weapon and placing it on the table. Glancing at James, a frown takes over his facial features. "Jewels, can you answer another question for me?"

I nodded, knowing it would most likely be—

"Why were you at the ROGS warehouse?"

I blinked and turned to James, whose eyes were still fixed on me. "I do not understand? ROGS?"

"Yes," James spoke for Jeremy. "The warehouse you were in is owned by the ROGS, Jewels."

"I do not understand, who are the ROGS?"

"Geez," Jeremy sighed, straightening his posture. "Where has she been living? In a hole for the last one hundred years?"

"I'll explain it to her, Jer. You can go, and see how the raid on the Wastelands went."

Jeremy nodded, turned towards the door and said, "Jewels doesn't leave your sight, James, at all times she has to be with you."

"What do you think I am? A babysitter? I have more important things to do, like hunting. We're almost out of meat."

"Then take her with you."

"Jeremy."

"No, James. It's not safe for her to be out in the camp by herself. If people learn where we found her, they'll think she's—"

James ran his hands across his face in an upwards motion, ending in his black hair and tugged on his roots, and said, "They'll think she's a spy for the ROGS, I know."

"Precisely."

"Fine," James muttered in a defeated tone. "I'll make sure she doesn't leave my sight."

"Good." Jeremy turned and left, closing the door behind him, leaving me with James.

I could not help but wonder where I was, and who these people were. More importantly, who and what were the ROGS?

"I know you have a lot of questions, and some I can't answer until we're one hundred percent sure you're not a spy," James spoke, getting to his feet. "But I also have questions of my own." His eyes diverted to my leg. I had forgotten I was hurt. "Your blood, it glows."

"You would not understand," I spoke with strength, showing no emotion. "No one from this world would be intelligent enough to understand."

"Are you calling me an idiot?"

"No, your brains simply would not process it." I closed my eyes briefly before opening them to find James standing next to the bed, so close I could feel his breath on my face. I inhaled a large amount of air and told him, "The things I've seen would shock you."

James ignored my previous statement and glanced at me before his eyes shifted to an object wrapped around his wrist. He sighed. "Patrols will be back soon, meaning you have to come with me." Again he shifted his gaze to my face. "Can you walk?"

"I think so." I stood up from the bed I had once laid on. I would be telling a lie if I said it did not hurt the minute I put pressure on my leg.

James made no effort to help me. He simply walked to the door and opened it. "Thank you." I forced a smile, exiting the building with him behind me.

I had to shut my eyes from the bright light in the sky I assumed was this world's sun, and once my vision had adjusted I was able to see properly. "What is this place?" I asked, looking around me.

We stood before what looked like a primitive village with houses made from bricks and concrete. The houses were in rows behind each other which were surrounded by a large, tall wall protecting the place from whatever dangers lurked outside. The building we had just came from was not very big and was just like all of the others.

I turned my attention to the human standing near me, only now that we were in the light could I see his full imagine. He wore some kind of black shirt that showed much of his arms, revealing those marks, but the marks were in patterns and seemed to have been manmade. James was well built in body size, muscular and a lot taller than me. His hair was jet black and his eyes hazel.

"Come," James spoke from beside me, breaking me from the trance I had been put into. "We're going to take a trip to the doc, so hopefully your leg is healed enough."

He motioned me to walk next to him as we turned to the left and moved up a small hill. "Why? What are you going to do?"

"We," he corrects me. "We are going hunting."
