The Two Wanderers Reunite and Make A Small Deal

~~💔~~

Geno's hand slowly trailed up to his face, his gaze peering throughout the empty void.

"What...What happened?" He slowly questioned, not expecting an answer.

He examined himself to reassure his mind about his nagging feeling of pure insecurity. He created a mental check list: One red scarf, one jacket, one pair of shorts, a pair of determination-stained slippers, decaying bones, a huge gash in his chest, his melting skull, the glitches to HIDE the melting skull, and his ninth of a soul. Everything seemed to be intact and present.

So, why did he feel so odd?

He pondered on the question for a while, sometimes pacing back and forth on the "floor".

Geno then came to a conclusion.
Something must have happened to affect the timelines. Though, what? What possibly could possess the power to disrupt the timelines-

Then, it hit him square in the face.

The glistening of gold was all too familiar to him. Frisk looked frantically at Geno, starting to shake with fear. Geno's left eye socket grew to a shining coloration of blue and red. He felt himself dusting instantly. His time was running out. "Well, guess I'll see you never." Geno shrugged, his grin growing wider. Suddenly, five Gaster blasters materialized from thin air, and shot blinding light at the child before him. The only thing left of Frisk was the echoing sound of their soul shattering.

Geno chuckled to himself, then let himself slowly fall backwards. "Geeeet dunked on."

...

Among the midst of Geno's fading vision, a soft glow illuminated the area. It's glow felt...menacing. The soul was scattered into millions of pieces, but something...mind-blowing occurred.

Slowly,
very slowly...
it crept closer...
and closer...
until the pieces were close enough to be glued together.

The lights dimmed in the hall, only leaving the soft glow of the broken soul visible. The darkness crept closer to it, until a black substance leaked from it's cracks. It strung together, creating a sort of "glue". The soul then repaired itself, releasing a new glow. An unnatural glow. A shining red face appeared from the darkness, a dark hand underneath the soul, inching closer to the floating object. The expression morphed into a terrifying smile, finally grasping onto the red object.

After that...
Geno didn't know.

Everything went black.

Everything was dark.

Geno sat in the darkness, gripping tightly to his brother's scarf.

His plan...failed.
He was completely certain that he ended it.
He DID end it.

Geno gazed upon the timelines, watching himself dancing around the kid.
That...kid.

He remembered.
He failed.
The world reset.
Chara came back.
They had their dance.
They both died, only to come back with another reset.

This had happened several times, until something happened to force it back to...

Here.

Geno pondered. What could possibly cause that? Another small memory came to mind, answering his question.

Another moment of awkward silence.

"Sans."

I looked over at the cloaked skeleton.

"What?"

"Sans. My name is Sans. I'm a God of Death."

Now, Geno didn't know a lot about mythical beasts or gods. However, he had a feeling that this 'God of Death' is partially responsible for this.

"So, this is where you were hiding."
The voice nearly made Geno's soul stop completely.

A familiar cloaked figure emerged from the darkness, floating calmly towards him. The utter suspense that Geno felt was overwhelming, his soul racing.

"...Death?"

The figure's smile widened. "Ah. I see you remember me." he lowly stated, bitterness laced into the word 'remember'.
Geno flinched at how cold his stare was.
"You know, I was wondering about something. Something very...VERY interesting..." He landed with a soft clank of bones.
"An outside source has informed me of something. What was it, again?" A step further, followed by another.
"Ah. That's right. RESET, Wasn't it?" Geno started to back away, unknowing where this one-sided conversation was going.
"Reset. The power to revert everything back to a certain point. An interesting power indeed." He stopped when he was towering over Geno, a dark expression spread across his face.
"Something done with an undying power. The power to come back from the clutches of eternal rest. A substance which is present in a certain child I've seen. Determination." Death summoned his scythes, a low growl echoing through the empty space.
"So...Here is the deal: Either you come with me and tell me EVERYTHING about the subjects, or...You can take a closer look at my 'friends' here."

Geno swallowed a small breathe. Death was threatening him with his life. Geno mustered courage to respond. "...It's...weird."

Death hesitated for a moment. "..what?"

"It's weird." Geno restated, straightening up. "If you remember everything that has happened, yet still don't understand the concepts of it, then that is just plain...stupid."

Death stood there, dumb-struck. "Did...did you just call me stupid?"

Geno froze.

OH F*CK

"N-NO, I DIDN'T MEAN TO C-CALL YOU STUPID A-AT ALL, OH LORD, I SCREWED MYSELF OVER."

Suddenly, Death's glare disappeared.
His eyes lit up.
His smile grew with amusement.
Then, He laughed.

The terrifying and cold bringer of all darkness...was laughing as if it was his last.
Geno stared at the sight with amazement.

"E-EVEN AFTER I THREATENED YOU?! YOU STILL HAVE THE AUDACITY OF CALLING DEATH STUPID!" He exclaimed, heaving in ragged breathes.

Geno frowned. "Yeah, yeah, I know about my own stupidity, Thank you very much."

Death waved his scythes away, clutching to his non-existent stomach. "Oh wow...I haven't laughed like that in WEEKS!" Death smiled at Geno. "I've never seen THIS side of you, Sans."

Geno froze at the name. "...what?"

"You're name is Sans, right?"

Geno's eyes went dark. "No, it isn't. I've lost that name a LONG time ago."

Death raised an 'eyebrow', but shook it off. "So, Geno then...right?"

The other was a little surprised at his own name being told to him, but then remembered the previous resets. "Yeah. I nicknamed you Death." The cloaked other nodded in agreement, remembering that moment. He settled into a spot in the dark, patting the area next to him for Geno to sit. He obliged, sitting next to the cloaked other.

"So...About earlier." Death started. "I...I was wondering if you knew about these 'resets' and 'determination'. If you do, could you maybe explain it to me?"

Geno didn't hesitate to ask. "Why?"

Death went silent for a few moments. "I believe that it has to do with something that I'm currently dealing with."

Geno didn't want to question him further, so he tried to find a possible way of explaining all of the knowledge he was able to gather over the timelines.

"Well...to start off, there is determination, also known as DT. DT is among many soul traits, such as kindness, bravery, justice...uh...um...I can't remember any more than that." Geno sputtered, continuing.
"DT is usually represented with red, which is it's natural soul color. If a soul possesses enough DT, they are able to hold the power of RESET,  SAVE,  and LOAD."

Reaper nodded, showing Geno that he was attentively listening to the information. He was considering on writing notes, though he had no paper to write on. The journal full of names was forbidden to be written in, since names appear inside the book when it is their time. Plus, Reaper didn't carry any writing utensils with him, so-

"Reset is the power to start anything over. For a reset to work, there has to be a Save. The save is a point in time where all data possible is remembered, enabling the reset to jump back to a specific point. The save will stay the same unless if something alters the data or if a new save is created. Load is a separate power all in itself. It allows the holder to choose which save to reset to."
Reaper had shoved away his thoughts about writing notes as soon as Geno continued. He should probably try to keep a mental note of this information if he couldn't write.
"Then, there is the factor of DT transportation. It's something which isn't quite clear, but I was able to gather something. The one which possesses the most DT is granted the ability to RESET. If two beings possessed any form of DT, no matter if it is natural or if it's a substance injected, they have the possibility of reset. However, the one with the greater amount of DT is granted the power. The other is just a normal being, not able to RESET, LOAD, or SAVE." Geno glanced over at Death, which was staring at him intensely. Sweat began to form on his forehead.
"uh...Are you okay?"

Death snapped from his trance, smiling. "Whoops. Didn't mean to stop you." Death chuckled.

Geno rolled the lights in his sockets, before stating, "Well, that's it. You can relax now."

Death blinked. "Wait, really? I thought there would be more."
He began to float from the 'floor', drifting over the scarfed other.

"Well, that's all you wanted, right? That'll help you with whatever you wanted." Geno sighed, sitting down into the emptiness.

Death watched him, a strange feeling rising within himself. "...I'll visit."

Geno looked over at Death. "What did you say?" He asked.

"I'll visit." Death restated, louder than last time. "You gave me the things I needed...and you seem kind of lonely here. Maybe I can come back? And...we could...hang out?"
Geno's eyes widened.
"I mean, you're pretty interesting, Unlike any other soul I've ever seen. I'd like to get to know you better." Death explained.

Geno locked gazes with Death, at a loss for words. When he finally managed to find them, He finally smiled.
Not like the other smiles which he usually wore.
A genuine, small smile.

"...I'd like that."
