Chapter 6 - First Marauder Rule
Slime. Water. Feathers. Glue. Weird shaped glasses. Dungbombs. And cat toys had filled my previous week. I walked in the corridors after curfew. With Dungbombs in my bag, I headed to Filch, the caretaker's office, hoping no Prefects would find me. I heard that the Gryffindor Prefects were on duty tonight. So if Lily caught me, well I'm dead. I saw someone heading my way. I sighed and grabbed a Dungbomb from my bag. It sat on my hand, above the gloves I was wearing. I had been wearing gloves or very long sleeved shirts since my experience with that stupid, little, insulting piece of parchment. The Prefect was walking in my direction. I threw the Dungbomb at them, expecting a scream or something. Instead the person just jumped and sighed.
"James! Sirius! Peter! Just because I'm a Prefect doesn't mean you can sneak out at night!"
I laughed and walked to Remus Lupin. "It's funny how you immediately assumed it was the Marauders." Remus looked at me, raising an eyebrow. He looked extremely tired, and was deathly pale.
"What are you doing in the corridors at night?" Remus asked, crossing his arms. I shrugged. I looked at his pale face and the bags under his eyes.
"I was about to go prank Filch. Are you okay?" He frowned.
"Yeah why?"
"You're pale. And you look extremely tired." His eyes widened and he shook his head immediately.
"I'm fine..." I raised an eyebrow.
"You sure?" He nodded. "You should be going to bed. Surely Prefect Duty finishes soon." Remus looked at his watch and sighed.
"One more hour. I'll be fine."
"You sure?" Remus nodded, looking at the floor. "Are you lying?" He looked at me, his eyes wide.
"No! Of course not. You better go to bed-"
"I'm not tired. While you are."
"I'm not tired."
"Yes you are. "
"No I'm not."
"Yes you are."
"No I'm not."
"Yes you are."
"No I'm not."
"Yes you are."
"No I'm not!"
"Yes you are!"
"No I'm not!"
"Yes you are!"
"No I'm not!"
"Yes you are! And don't you say you're not!!" I added and pointed a finger at him. Remus groaned with annoyance and crossed his arms. I grinned.
"Well you're not allowed out of your dormitory after hours." Remus stated again, annoyance in his voice.
"I know. You've said that a billion times." I rolled my eyes.
"I've only said it once!"
"Twice." He sighed with annoyance again. "You're still tired."
"I'm not tired-"
"Are we doing this again? How about... I won't prank Filch if you go to bed." Remus thought for a moment.
"I'll go to bed later."
"Now." He raised an eyebrow.
"And you won't prank Filch?"
"Nope." Remus sighed.
"Fine. Let's go."
"Thank you."
I grinned and quickly threw a Dungbomb behind him. Remus gasped and moved out of the way.
"You said-"
"Who's there?! Students out of bed!!" We froze and I groaned slightly. The shadow of a man and a cat came closer to us.
"Look now you've got me into trouble!" Remus exclaimed.
"Shut up. I lied. Now let's go." I stated and we both ran to the Gryffindor Common Room.
"You lied!" Remus panted.
"I know." I stated simply.
"You - you are a lot like James."
"Wait what?!" He shrugged and didn't answer. I sighed and looked around. A few minutes later I looked at Remus who was sleeping on the couch. I managed a smile.
"You weren't tired. Sure."
I walked over to him and shook him gently. "Remus... Remus wake up." Remus opened his eyes slowly and yawned.
"W-what?" He croaked and sat up, rubbing his eyes.
"You fell asleep."
"I was only resting my eyes for a bit." He stood up and yawned. "Good night then..." He walked off and I sighed.
~~~~~~~~~~
I sat in the Great Hall with the girls. Alice was talking to Frank. Lily was reading a textbook. I was thinking of new prank while trying to listen to Marlene, who was once again ranting about Sirius.
"And... his hair...is just so...." Marlene said.
"Hot." I finished. I glanced at Sirius who was talkng to James and Peter and had no clue about the conversation. Remus wasn't with them. How odd.
"Yeah... wait how do you-"
"You've said it a billion times Mar."
"Oh." I grinned slightly at her.
"Maybe I should tell Sirius-"
"NO! You can't!!" She yelled. I laughed.
"Gee Mar. Stop acting so serious."
"I'm not acting serious. I want Siri-" She stopped and I laughed again.
The Marauders stopped talking instantly when Remus walked in. He looked exactly the same as he did last night. I sighed. The Marauders smiled reassuringly at Remus. Remus sat down tiredly and took out a bar of chocolate. My eyes widened when I thought of a prank. I grabbed my wand.
"What are you planning?" Marlene asked quietly. She glanced at the Marauders then looked back at me.
"Shush." I said and pointed my wand at Remus's chocolate.
"Oh you don't want to do that-"
"Shush."
"Don't say I warned you." I waved my wand and Remus's chocolate turned into moldy cheese. He screamed and dropped it. James grinned at Remus's expression. Sirius coughed, trying to hide a snicker. And Peter stared at it.
"You are so dead." Lily whispered in my ear. I shrugged. Remus grabbed another chocolate bar and opened it. I waved my wand and that too changed into moldy cheese. Remus sighed with annoyance.
"Ugh! Who keeps changing my chocolate-" I laughed and Remus looked at me. The other Marauders grinned. They stood up and walked over to me.
"Good luck." Alice said to me.
"What? Why?" But before they could answer I looked up and saw Remus glaring at me. I smiled innocently at him. "Yes?"
"Did you Transfigure my chocolate?"
"To moldy cheese?" Remus glared at me. I smiled widely.
"Change it back." He crossed his arms.
"But what if I don't want to?" James and Sirius appeared on either side of Remus. Peter followed too.
"First Marauder Rule. You never touch Remus's chocolate." Sirius stated, sounding... well serious.
"When did you four follow rules?" I asked, slightly amused.
"We don't follow any rules. But we follow the Marauder rules." James added. The girls laughed.
"Are you serious?" Lily asked, in between laughter.
"Yes!" Sirius exclaimed. Lily stopped laughing and gave him a 'Really' look. He shrugged again.
"Now, change the chocolate back." Remus said, placing his hands on the table and leaning forward.
"What happens if I don't?" I asked.
"You'll regret it." I sighed and waved my wand. One chocolate bar turned back to normal. Remus nodded. "Thank you." He walked back and took a bite of it.
The other Marauders looked at me. "I'll watch out if I were you." Peter warned.
"I highly doubt that." I stated, rolling my eyes.
"Should we tell her?" James asked Sirius.
"Nah. Let her figure it out." Sirius answered, and the three walked off. I frowned.
"Figure out what?" I asked with confusion. But they didn't hear me and the girls shrugged.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Potter, please just put that bloody Snitch away!!" I yelled again. We were in Potions and like every lesson, I had to sit with James, who was playing with a Snitch.
"Honestly Fall, you honestly care about this?" James gestured to the cauldron.
"Yes I do! Now can you actually do some work!?"
"Yes mother." James rolled his eyes. I grabbed a book and hit him over the head with it.
"OW!" I glared at him.
"Now work!!" He shot me a glare before opening his book.
"You broke my glasses." James stated. He took off his glasses and frowned at them. One of the lenses were cracked. I grinned. "Maybe I should break your glasses!" I took my glasses off and looked at him.
"You already did." I replied. "And being the witch I am. I fixed them."
"Haha very funny." He grabbed his wand and pointed it at the glasses. "Occulus Reparo." And his glasses fixed instantly.
I added another ingredient and the potion started bubbling. James flipped through the pages of his book. "You know, it's not meant to do that."
"Yes it is. It's meant to bubble for a few minutes-"
"No it isn't. Merlin's beard Fall it would help if you were actually good at this."
"Well it would help if you would stop staring at Lily!"
"It's not my fault she's good looking!" I rolled my eyes.
"What a shame, she's with Severus though." I said slowly.
"Shut up Fall." I rolled my eyes and grinned. I looked around.
"Hey James, what's wrong with Remus?" I asked. He frowned and we both looked at Remus, who yawned and rubbed his eyes. His hair was messier and he was even more pale than this morning when I transfigured his chocolate.
"Nothing.... he's just sick." James said simply while adding another ingredient.
"Then shouldn't he be in the Hospital Wing?" He shrugged.
"We've tried telling him that Fall. He doesn't want to anyway. You know Remus, all about studying." James managed a smile and sighed.
"But-"
"Just leave it. He's fine." James glanced at Remus and started stirring the potion. "Now we just need to add the crocodile heart."
I nodded and opened my book. I frowned and flipped through all the blank pages. Yes blank. There was no words, no ink. Nothing. "What the bloody hell?" I said to myself and held up my book.
"Gee, Fall no need to swear." James looked at me. I rolled my eyes.
"Something happened to my book!! It's blank!" He laughed. "It's not funny!! Did you do this?!"
"No of course not." I raised an eyebrow. "I didn't do it!"
"Are all my books like this?!" I grabbed my bag and took out all my books. I grabbed my copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them and flipped through the pages, finding all of them blank. "Who touched my books?!"
"What's so precious about books?" James asked.
"I love my books as much as Remus loves his chocolate!!" James laughed.
"Yeah... no. Don't say we warned you."
"What?" He looked at me and grinned at me. "What are you grinning at now?!"
"Well for one thing your glasses are different." I took off my glasses and found that they were shaped differently and weirdly (A/N like Luna's Quibbler Glasses). I sighed with frustration.
"Ugh! Who did this then?! You?! Sirius?!"
"Never touch Remus's chocolate." James reminded, grinning. My eyes widened and I looked over at Remus, who was writing on a piece of parchment and grinning slightly.
