Chapter 1 - Don't Get Me Started
"Mum, I'll be fine. I promise." I said for the seventh time. We were at Platform 9 and 3/4, waiting until it was 11 o'clock. I was fifteen years old, but this was my first year at Hogwarts. I spent the first four years at Ilvernormy, the wizarding school in America. My parents had moved here because my Mum found a job opportunity at the Ministry here. Unfortunately my Dad had to come along too. How much fun that was... I still had bruises and cuts on my arms. I wore a black leather jacket to cover them. I also wore a dark grey singlet, black ripped jeans and over my shoulder was a small bag with my glasses and a book in it. My black hair was out and below my chest. My trunk was already on the train.
"I know you will." She smiled softly. "Now remember, study hard. Don't get into too much trouble. And no boyfriends." I rolled my eyes.
"Mum!" I replied. She laughed.
"I'm joking. I'm joking. Who knows, maybe there's some cute boys here."
"Mum." I said again. The train whistle blew, indicating that it was going to leave soon.
"Anyway, you better go now. Don't forget, you're coming home for Christmas." My smile faded.
"Do I have to?" She frowned.
"Of course why?" I looked down.
"Will Dad be there?" Let's just say... I don't have the best relationship with my father.
"Don't worry about it. It'll be fine." That's what she says all the time. But once I get home it's the opposite. My mother is too scared to say anything. I sighed and hugged her.
"Well see you at Christmas then." I said and boarded the train. The train started moving and I waved to my mother again. Finally, when she was out of sight, I sighed and found an empty compartment, surprisingly.
I sighed and looked out the window before opening my bag and grabbing my book and glasses. I put my glasses on and opened the book. It was about Greek Myths, and I had to admit, it was quite interesting. I was just about to start reading when the compartment door opened and two girls appeared. One had bright blonde curly hair, parts of it pinned up. She had grey eyes and freckles covered her face. She also wore red lipstick and long earrings. She basically looked like a diva. The girl beside her had dark brown hair that was above her shoulders and brown eyes. She had a fringe and fair skin.
"Yes Lily you can go." The diva-looking girl said to across the hall. She turned around and saw me. "Oh, someone's here. Well then, can we sit here? Everywhere else is full."
"Sure." I smiled slightly as the two girls came in. They sat across from me.
"Are you new here?" The dark-haired girl said. I took my glasses off and nodded.
"Yeah."
"What's your name?" The diva girl asked.
"Isabel. Isabel Fall." I answered. She smiled, showing pure white teeth and held out her hand. I shook her hand.
"Nice to meet you Isabel. I'm Marlene Mckinnion. This is Alice." Marlene nodded towards the other girl. Alice smiled and I shook her hand as well. "So... you're new here? What year?"
"I'm fifteen. So Year Five." Their eyes widened.
"We're in our fifth year as well!" Alice exclaimed. I smiled.
"Really?" They nodded.
"Oh yeah. Fifth year. Fun year. OWL year." Marlene said. My smile faded and I groaned.
"They do OWL's here too? Great..."
"Here? Oh right you're new... where are you from?"
"America. I went to Ilvernormy, the Wizarding school there."
"Oh I've heard of that place." Alice stated. "It's like here. But American." I nodded.
"So are there houses... here?"
"Yeah. Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin. We're both in Gryffindor. The brave and courageous people are sorted in Gryffindor. Then Ravenclaw, which I guess is all the smart people. It's not that bad. Hufflepuff which is the kind and loyal." Alice explained.
"And Slytherin." Marlene added. "The bad guys. People who are most likely to become Death Eaters." I nodded. Gryffindor and Ravenclaw don't sound too bad.
"Not all!" Marlene rolled her eyes.
"I said most likely. Most of them."
"Well not all of them are bad. There's Lily's friend, Severus Snape?"
"I didn't say he was bad! He was sorted into Slytherin for a reason." Alice sighed with defeat.
"Anything from the trolley, dears?" I looked up and saw a lady pushing a trolley filled with sweets. My eyes widened and I started looking for money. I eventually found some.
"One Sugar Quill, three Chocolate Frogs and Bertie Botts Every Flavoured Beans." I said, handing the Trolley Lady the money.
"And I'll get a few Chocolate Frogs and a packet of Droobles Best Blowing Gum. Thanks." Marlene said.
"And a Sugar Quill!" Alice added. The Trolley Lady gave us our sweets then walked off.
"Um... who's Lily?" I asked, taking a bite of the Sugar Quill.
"Oh Lily Evans? She's one of our friends." Alice said.
"Why isn't she here then?"
"Oh because she's a Prefect. The good kids." Marlene said. "They get their own compartments."
"Not all the good kids. There's Remus Lupin, and he's a marauder."
"Well he's the smartest one."
"But not the hottest one. Don't you think, Mar?" Alice nudged Marlene, a small grin appearing on her face. Marlene smiled and rolled her eyes, turning red lightly.
"Sorry, but what's a Marauder?" I asked. They looked up and both of them grinned slightly.
"The Marauders. Don't get me started about them." Marlene said, grinning and staring out the window.
"The Marauders are a group of boys that are really popular and prank everyone. And I mean everyone. So you might want to watch out." Alice stated. I nodded. "There's four of them. All are in Gryffindor and are in our year."
"There's James Potter, who acts like he's the King of Gryffindor." Marlene started.
"Well probably because he is. He's the leader and he hexes everyone-"
"He hexes everyone?" I asked.
"Well not exactly. He hexes you if you're in Slytherin or if you went on a date with Lily, who he has a terrible crush on." Marlene said. "It's not going anywhere." I nodded.
"Then there's Sirius Black." Marlene sighed and smiled dreamily.
"Marlene's favourite one." Alice said under her breath. Marlene looked at her and frowned, her cheeks turning red.
"No... he's not my favourite one. And I certainly don't like him in any way..." I grinned.
"I don't know, it sounds like you do." I stated. Alice laughed. Marlene blushed even more.
"Whatever. Anyway, he's James's best friend, they prank people together. He's very flirty and funny and handsome. His long black hair and his brilliant eye-"
"She asked what he's like. Not what he looks like." Alice said.
"What?"
"Yeah you don't have a crush whatsoever." I said, trying not to laugh.
"But I'm just saying Sirius is-"
"Next person!" Alice yelled, Marlene frowned and sighed. "Then there's Remus Lupin. He's also a Prefect and he's probably the smartest one out of all of them. He doesn't participate in any of the pranks. But he doesn't stop James and Sirius."
"And he actually studies."
"And Sirius doesn't?" I asked Marlene, grinning.
"Oh shut up." She blushed again. "Then there's Peter Pettigrew." Marlene bit her lip. "There's nothing to know much about him... he basically just tags along with them."
"So I need to watch out for them, right?" I asked.
"Well it'll be hard too. And you don't want to avoid them. They will prank you eventually." Marlene said.
"What she means: avoid Sirius or I will kill you." Alice teased.
"I'm not James! And I told you, that he flirts and winks at everyone so..." Marlene sighed. "And you're one to talk. Who's that person you were staring at? Frank Longbottom?" Alice blushed.
"H-he was helping me with something..." Alice said, blushing even more. Marlene nodded, still grinning.
"Yeah yeah sure."
I laughed. "So basically, you're all in Gryffindor, there's four popular boys who like to prank and hex people, and you both have crushes but you won't admit it." They both turned red. "Oh come on, it's pretty obvious."
"Everything is right except for the last one." Alice said.
"Alright... whatever you say." I grinned.
