Finding a Stolen Heart: Chap 22
Merida's POV
I clutched to Hiccups back as we flew in the air. Everything is so messed up right now. "Where are we going?" I asked him, taking a few strands of hair out of my mouth. He just grumbled angrily. I felt tears form in my eyes, this happened because of me!
I started crying against his back. He noticed and pulled forward. "You're getting my shirt all wet." He said with a vile tone. "Sorry." I whispered. Toothless whimpered underneath us. I patted his side and he turned to look at me with a sad expression. I need to fix this. "Hiccup stop." I demanded. He looked back at me with a confused expression but told Toothless to land anyway.
We landed near the forbidden forest and I slid of Toothless' back and walked towards the trees. Hiccup grabbed my arm. "What do you think you're doing?" he asked coldly. "I'm going to fix this. I thought that's what ye wanted." He nodded. "Elsa told me something really important tonight." He swallowed obviously frustrated with me. "She told me that just because I don't have feelings doesn't mean I still shouldn't be kind... It's just hard you know, I looked at you and I remember being happy and in love but I don't feel anything. I know that I've been a jerk but I can't help it. I feel like hitting a wall whenever I see you because...." I raised an eyebrow. "Because I want to be able to love you again." I felt my cheeks heat up at his words.
I stepped towards him and pulled him into a hug. I know he couldn't feel the emotion behind it but he still wrapped his arms around me. "I'll figure something out." I whispered. "It's my fault this happened to ye, therefore I need to fix it." He shook his head. "Its not your fault, I was the one who walked towards that fire." "But I still need to fix this." I whispered. "Thank you." he said before looking up at the moon.
Rapunzel's POV
I can't even begin to describe the fear that was building up inside of me as we followed the Headmistress down the hall. I got little sleep last night because I was afraid, very very afraid. I've heard what horrible things happen to people in the room of senselessness. I held onto Eugene's hand tightly. We would all be in the same room but we won't be able to do anything, just go crazy inside our own minds.
I also can't describe the anger that Jack boiled up inside of me. How could he do this to us!? The headmistress opened the door to the basement and waited for us to walk down before following us. She pulled a cord that turned on a single light bulb and pulled out her keys making them clang against each other.
She shoved the key into the door and turned it slowly making my teeth chattered. I was sweating all over and my heart pounded rapidly inside my chest. She opened the door slowly making it creak and squeal. I peered through the door to see nothing but darkness. She pulled out her wand and made it illuminate blue so she could see as she walked in. We watched her as she stood in front of the chairs.
"Children like you, that rebel and cause trouble should be taught a lesson. You could of gotten hurt, not to mention that you could of gotten lost or even killed." Like she cared! I mentally shouted. "You need to learn to follow the rules." She gestured at the chairs behind her and she smiled evilly. "Choose a chair." she demanded.
I felt like I was going to pass out. Elsa walked in first and took a chair at the end. The guys Kristoff and Eugene glanced at each other before joining her. Anna grabbed my hand and started to walk forward. My legs felt like jello and I collapsed to the ground making my vision darken.
~
I woke up paralyzed and in the dark. I tried to scream but I couldn't move anything. Tears spilled down my cheeks and I moved my eyes to look around. Suddenly candles lit all round the room and I stared at a staircase.
Suddenly I heard the frightening hum of a tune I knew too well. A woman appeared at the top of the stairs. I trembled in fear as she walked down the stairs. "Mother knows best." she sung holding a knife at her side. She kept humming as she walked forward holding the knife outwards. But as I looked closely I noticed it wasn't a knife, it seemed to change into a belt.
I then noticed that my back was entirely exposed. Fear pricked inside my stomach. I felt her lean against my bare back. "Mother knows best." she whispered into my ear before she pushed off me and I heard the sound of the leather belt connect with my back. Pain spread through my entire body as she slashed again and again.
But then I remembered being inside the room of senselessness. This is just an hallucination. Think happy thoughts, like my guidance counselor Peter told me too. (Peter Pan, if you didn't get the reference.) Since my back was bare I thought about Eugene. The night I had showed him my scars. I thought about the way he traced his fingers across them, the way he kissed them and the way he told me I was still beautiful even though my back was covered in scars.
I opened my eyes and found myself back in the darkness. My back wasn't stinging anymore but I still had tears in my eyes. I continued to think happy thoughts, not letting the darkness scare me.
Eugene's POV of the situation.
Punzie grabbed ahold of my hand making my heart calm down a bit. I could only think about my friend the day he came out. He mumbled crazy things about a woman in black and he shook, having seizures until he hung himself in the RavenClaw dorm room.
What was going to happen to Rapunzel? Fear nested itself in the pit of my stomach and it wasn't for me, it was for her. What will happen to her? I thought again. Her hand tightened around mine and I squeezed. The headmistress opened the door and I practically had to pull Punzie down the steps.
I could feel the sweat building up in her palm as the headmistress pulled out her keys. My heart started pounding again as she opened the door. It creaked loudly as it slowly opened. The headmistress took out her wand and She lit it up before she walked into the darkness beyond the door. I stared at the chairs in front of us and I swallowed nervously.
"Children like you, that rebel and cause trouble should be taught a lesson. You could of gotten hurt, not to mention that you could of gotten lost or even killed. You need to learn to follow the rules." She gestured at the chairs behind her and she smiled evilly. "Choose a chair." she said roughly.
I watched as Elsa walked in first. I looked towards Kristoff and we walked in together, letting go of Punzie's hand. I choose a chair next to Kristoff and stared at Punzie while Anna grabbed her hand. I saw Punzies knees buckle and she fell to the ground passing out. I watched the Headmistress pick her up. "Get your hands off her!" I said through clenched teeth. She chuckled as she strapped her in.
She did Elsa next, then Anna, Kristoff and she did me last. She moved in real close. "You only love her because she thinks you can change. This bond is getting to your head." "H-how did you know about that?" I asked making her chuckled. She tapped my cheek with her index finger. "Have fun in hell." she said before she walked towards the door, slamming it shut making it completely dark.
I tried to adjust my eyes knowing that if I tried to move it wouldn't work. I wanted to shout Punzie's name, make sure she's okay. I was going insane just thinking about it.
Suddenly I was standing in a living room looking at a child on the floor. He was playing with toys and giggling about something. "What are you giggling about?" asked a woman in a baby voice. "What do you have there Eugene?" asked a man in a baby voice. I froze in place, Eugene?
I finally got the courage to move. I stepped around the couch and stared at two people I didn't recognize. Are they my parents? I watched as the woman picked up the child, she sat me in her lap and started bouncing me. "Who's my brave little boy!?" she said kissing my cheeks. I felt tears form in my eyes, I wiped at them.
"I Will Not Cry!" I shouted at myself, gathering my hair in my hands. The people stopped playing with the child and stood up. The woman placed the child in a crib and walked towards me. She wiped my cheeks. "Wow you have grown so much." She said with tears forming in her eyes. "You're my parents." I choked out. My father nodded. "Why did you give me away?" I asked, letting more tears fall.
"We had to, to keep you safe." my mother chocked out. She pulled me against her and my father wrapped his arms around both of us. "Don't think for a second that we stopped loving you."
I opened my eyes and I was back in my chair. "NO! BRING ME BACK! NO NO NO TAKE ME BACK! PLEASE!" I shouted. "please."
Anna's POV of the situation.
I held onto Kristoff's hand tightly as we walked down the basement steps. My heart pounded inside my ears and my brain was yelling at me to run. I had tears forming in my eyes already. I glanced at Kristoff. His eyes were filled with fear and he probably saw how scared I was as well. He pulled me closer and squeezed my hand harder.
The headmistress pulled out her keys and opened the door slowly making it creak. I wanted to cover my ears and scream. She illuminated to her wand to reveal five chairs.
"Children like you, that rebel and cause trouble should be taught a lesson. You could of gotten hurt, not to mention that you could of gotten lost or even killed. You need to learn to follow the rules." She gestured at the chairs behind her and she smiled evilly. "Choose a chair." she said with a vile and demanding tone.
Elsa went in first. Of course she did, she's always been brave and fearless. Kristoff let go of my hand and walked into the room with Eugene. I felt cold without his touch. I glanced at Punzie, she was pale and looked like she was going to faint. I grabbed her hand and squeezed. She stepped forward and I suddenly felt all her weight. She crashed to the ground and I looked at the headmistress. She gestured to a chair and I followed her unspoken instructions, not wanting to get into anymore trouble.
I watched the headmistress pick up Punzie and place her in a chair. "Get Your Hands Off Her!" Eugene shouted. She strapped in Elsa after strapping Punzie and moved on the me next. I winced at how tightly she tied them. I watched her strap in Kristoff. He looked at me and gave me a sad smile. I heard whispering and I turned to see the headmistress up in Eugene's face. What's she saying? I asked myself but the headmistress pushed away and shut the door quickly.
I wasn't afraid of the dark until now. I closed my eyes tightly and clenched my teeth. I tried moving but I was paralyzed in my seat. Then I heard a distant lullaby. I opened my eyes slowly to see me skipping down the hallway of my house. I knocked on the door and opened it slowly. I peeked in to see that it was definitely Elsa's room. We both ran out the room and down the stairs. I smiled, I remember this. This is how it used to be.
I followed us down the stairs and watched Elsa make it snow. But I was still shocked to see that Elsa hit me with her powers, I knew it was an accident but it still scared me. I still know that she would never hurt me. Then time seemed to fly by.
I was now looking at an older version of myself. My parents were talking to Elsa and completely ignoring me. They turned to me. "Get away from us Anna, you aren't like Elsa, she's special. She has powers and you don't. You're worthless, useless and pathetic. Why can't you be like Elsa, why can't you be perfect." They said together. I felt my cheeks become wet. "You are nothing, you are nothing compared to her, compared to our favorite daughter. You will never have the same place in our hearts as your sister. We wish you were never born." Then I snapped. "SHUT UP!" I yelled.
I was back in my chair with tears streaming down my face. I want this to be over! Get me out of here please...
Kristoff's POV
I watched the Headmistress close the door making it dark inside. I tried to hide my fear but I'll admit it, I was freaking out. I tried to move and get out of here but I couldn't move a muscle. I tried yelling but it was like someone ripped out my vocal chords. I scanned the area and started shivering.
I was outside in the cold in the town I lived in. I was with my parents at the lake that was frozen each year. My dad was an ice cutter and I was in love with the idea of becoming one. A reindeer walked up to me and licked my face. "Hi there!" I said giggling. He then licked the ice and I laughed as his tongue got stuck. I moved my hands across the ice and looked down into the water.
I saw a dark figure and I gasped jumping back. I pushed my legs back and I wasn't paying attention to where I was going and I ended up on the thin ice. "KRISTOFF!' my father yelled as he started running towards me but it was too late, I heard the ice cracking.
The ice collapsed beneath me and the cold water hit my skin. I gasped and swallowing water. My lungs burned, begging for air but my clothes were to heavy. I kicked my legs as hard as I could but I only kept sinking and sinking until my vision started to darken. I watched a figure dive into the water. It swam towards me and grabbed onto my clothes pulling me towards the surface. I looked behind him and saw the dark figure I saw earlier.
My father took a breath of air as we broke the surface. He handed me to my mother and I watched the figure grab his leg and pull him under. "DAD!" I screamed.
I found myself sitting in the room of senselessness again. He did it! The man KILLED MY FATHER! IM GOING TO KILL HIM! I heard a chuckle and a man stepped in front of me.
"Yes I killed your father, but good luck killing me." he said before he vanished into the darkness.
Elsa's POV
I breathed heavily as the headmistress closed the door. I remember what happened to Jack when he was in here. I'm vulnerable and I don't like it. I heard a laugh and I stiffened.
The man walked in front of me. "Long time no see Elsa." he said caressing the side of my cheek. I would of flinched if I wasn't paralyzed. "I hate you!" I said between clenched teeth. He chuckled "Don't judge me too harshly Elsa, if you grew up like I did... well you would do terrible things too." I smirked. "So you admit the things you've done are terrible." He stared at me intensively with his yellow eyes. "Terrible yet necessary." I furrowed my brows.
"You have no idea do you?" he asked and he laughed. "You've only heard one side of the story. Well I see you have plenty of time so I might as well tell you." He leaned against the back wall and cleared his throat. "My father told me the destiny my family was to fulfill. A world where they stood on top, where we ruled the wizard world. Like it had been all those years ago." "What do you mean?" I asked trying to get him to talk
Long enough to give me time to make a plan. "My family ruled the wizard world until we discovered black magic. We tried to convince everyone else to turn dark because it made us more powerful. The only down side is our short life span. The darkness can be cruel Elsa, but I think you already know that." He walked closer to me and crouched in front caressing my legs. "Your so beautiful, you know that right, We could of ruled together. You and I aren't that different." "Im not crazy like you." I spit at him and him smiled. He placed his hands underneath my shirt and felt my bare skin with his hands. "I want to be immortal and carry on my family destiny but the only way to do that is to sacrifice someone like you. someone with powers. This is your last chance Elsa to join me." I clenched my teeth. "I will never join you!" "Pity." he said as he leaned in to kiss me.
"I thought we were her to torture her, not play with her." Said a familiar voice. Jack stepped out of the dark his eyes glowing the same Yellow as his. "Jack?" I said with disbelief. "Believe it baby." He said as the man backed off me. Jack got on his knees and placed his hands on my hips. "Sorry to disappoint you. Its too bad I'm going to have to kill you." The air around us dropped in degrees quickly as my body filled with fear and anger.
"Relax babe, winter is coming but you'll be dead before it does." He glanced back at the glowing eyes against the wall. "Actually you will, but everyone around you won't." he smirked and leaned in close to my ear. "We're going to kill them all, one by one."
The door opened and the light stung my eyes. North stood in front of all of us with a look of concern painted on his face. I could finally move again because the door was open so I looked around frantically. Jack and the dark lord were gone. North untied all of us and lead us to his office to get us some hot chocolate and cookies.
Everyone looked horrible. Punzie had makeup down her face and her hair was a complete mess. She looked like she'd seen a ghost. Anna looked angry and sad. I sat down next to her but she shifted away from me. "Anna?" I whispered but she shook her head crawling into Kristoff's lap.
North looked at me with concern and gestured me to follow him into the kitchen. Once inside he closed the door and looked at me. "What did you see?" he asked. "Jack's gone dark and he'a working with him. He said he's going to kill everyone I care about, one by one." North pulled me into a hug. "The headmistress is working with him too. I remember the day Jack turned dark." He paled. "And she's running the school." he shook his head and rubbed his face. "Everything is going to get even worse. And I believe Jack was being serious. I just don't know who his first target is."
Merida's POV
I'm going to fix all of this. I placed my bow overhead and grabbed my arrows before walking to the stables. I didn't tell anyone where I was going, especially after what Jack did. I didn't understand why he did it, I mean we're his best friends. He knows we would do anything for him. I shook my head, I can't think about this right now, I have other important things to do.
I opened the doors to the stables and got my horse ready to be ridden. He neighed in my face. "I told ye! Ye'll be safe! It's still light out and if ye keep complaining it will get dark and I won't give it a second thought to leave you behind." I joked. He rolled his eyes and let me place his saddle on his back.
I threw my legs over him and sat myself in the saddle. "Come on Angus, we have a lot of riding to do." I said kicking his side lightly. He started off in a run and ran into the forbidden forest without much complaint.
It was getting dark overhead and I watched the moon rise in the sky. Come on where are they!? As if God heard my plead a blue glowing light appeared ahead. I pulled on the reigns to get Angus to slow down. We approached close enough to see that it was indeed what I was searching for, a wisp. I couldn't help but smile as I slid off Angus. I grabbed his reigns and I followed the wisps on foot.
After what seemed like hours the old lady's shack came into view. I tied Angus to a nearby tree and approached the door with great caution. I lifted my hand slowly and was about to knock but the door swung open to reveal nothing but darkness. "Merida." said a voice inside.
A fire was lit in the middle of the room and I gasped. But no face appeared this time, it was just flames. "Come in Merida." said the voice again. I was hesitant but I stepped inside the door. I heard Angus calling out. I turned around and gave him a reassuring look to tell him it was okay before the door slammed shut in my face. I jolted back before turning around slowly. My heart pounded in my chest and I could feel sweat building up all over my body.
I approached the fire slowly with my chin held high. "Look, I've come here to bargain." I heard a chuckle echo across the room. "Bargain for what?" they asked. "For Hiccup's heart, I'll give you anything."
"Now those are words I like to here." I watched Jack walk out from behind the fire. "Jack?" I asked shocked. "What Are-" "They more important question is, what can I do to help you." He chuckled a sly grin appearing on his face. He walked closer and I gasped as I saw his golden eyes. "They weren't contacts." I said sternly. He shook his head. "No but they went well with my costume, don't you think?" He chuckled. "Not to mention how they go with my complexion." He's turned dark. He tilted his head to the side. "Alright, how can ye help Hiccup?" I asked sternly.
"I can give him back his heart, but it comes with a price." "I'll do anything." "Ah! Music to my ears!" He walked closer, so close we were almost touching. "Are you sure?" he asked. I hesitated but slowly nodded. "Fantastic." He grabbed my arm and jolted his arm towards my stomach.
I didn't realize he was holding a knife. "Shhh!" he said as we both fell to the floor. "He'll get his heart back and then he'll join you after he dies of a broken heart." He laughed. "You're so naive Merida, always willing to give everything away. I thought you would put up a fight since you're so stubborn, but look where we are now." The pain was unbearable as he twisted the knife. I coughed covering his shirt in blood as he pulled it out. He cradled me in his arms and stared into my eyes.
"You have so much fear in your eyes right now, it's really beautiful." he chuckled moving a strand of hair away from my face. His hands were covered in my blood and I was sure he smeared it across my face. "Too bad you won't win the Goblet of fire." He smiled down at me. I could feel the world slipping beneath me. My vision darkened around the edges and I could barely breathe. "Now that's a good girl. Shhhh!" he said before he chuckled. He pushed me off of him and laid me on the ground.
The pain was gone now though, and so was the of my beating heart.
