A Buring Discovery: Chap 14
Hiccup's POV
My body was suddenly cold and full of pain. "What the hell!" I yelled. I had been pushed out of bed and was now on the floor. I looked up to see who had pushed me out of bed. Standing above me was the firey redhead Merida. "Merida why-" she cut me off. "Don't speak. I need your help." she whispered. She grabbed my arm and helped me to my feet. I grabbed my shoe and a sweater before following Merida out the door. When we were in the Hufflepuff common room I asked the question that burned on my tongue. "Merida why are you here? I mean right now." She shook her head. "I need your help. I'll explain on the way." she whispered before opening the exit. She walked through leaving me in the fire lit room. I sighed before following her.
"Merida?" I whispered into the moon lit hall. "Over here." I followed the sound of her voice and didn't actually find her until she grabbed ahold of my arm. "This way." She removed her hand from my arm and placed it in my hand, she pulled me down the hall in a steady run. We exited out into the courtyard and she let go of my hand. I could finally see her in the pale moonlight as she shrugged off her backpack. She pulled out two pieces of fabric and handed one to me. After spreading in out I realized in was a black cloak. I threw it over my shoulders and pulled the hood over my head. Merida did the same and held out her hand. I took it in mine and she guided me to the trees of the forbidden forest.
After walking a few feet into the woods we ended up near giant boxes. What are in those? People we milling around, making sure we didn't get caught Merida and I crouched behind a bush watching the people work. One of the cages in front if us started to shake and rumble. The side of the box blew off flying close to where we were hiding. I sucked in a breath and held it for a couple seconds before exhaling. My heart beat in my chest as sweat beaded on my forehead. It got really hot in the area all of the sudden. I stared at the cage trying to make my eyes adjust. Blazing orange fire came shooting out of the cages illuminating the creature inside.
Dragons.
Merida seemed to notice too. "This must be the first task. I must have to fight one of those dragons. I have to train!" she looked at me "We need to tell Jack as well." I nodded. "I can teach you... and Jack of course." She smiled before grabbing my face in her hands. She leaned forward and kissed my lips softly. She pulled back and I couldn't help but smile. I looked back towards the dragon cages. There was a total of five cages, one dragon for each competitor. In the cage in front of us the dragon blew fire once again illuminating it's body. It was huge!Which made the cage sizes make sense. The dragon had large horns and sharp teeth. It was covered in scales which were red, orange and yellow. It looked like an alpha dragon, which are the toughest dragons in their entire species.
"That dragon looks kinda scary." She swallowed and wiped her forehead on her sleeve. "The're not that bad once you get to know them." she rolled her eyes "I'll make sure we have tea before he tries to kill me in the ring." I laughed. "I think that your sarcasm is a good weapon." She laughed "I have an advantage against the dragons then." she chuckled softly. "Are you sure you can teach me?" I nodded "Of course, I would do anything to for you." She smiled.
I looked back towards the cage. I glanced left and right to make sure no one was looking before I jumped over the bush and sprinted towards the dragon. "HICCUP!" Merida yelled. I ignored her and kept running. Well as fast as my artificial foot could carry me. I reached the bars on the dragon encasement.
The bars were closed tightly with no space for a regular sized man to fit through but thankfully for me I was not the size of a regular 16 year old. I squeezed through the bars and faced the alpha dragon. It's legs were all tied together and it's neck was chained to the bottom. How could these people be so cruel? I walked towards the creature, it growled and I raised my hands in the air to gesture that I meant no harm. "Hiccup!" I turned to see Merida with her hands gripping the bars tightly. "I'll be fine." She rolled her eyes "Have to be the great dragon trainer now do ya?" I rolled my eyes at her comment and turned back to the dragon. I pulled out the knife that I always kept in my sock.
I walked forwards slowly this time. He growled and shifted back. He's be beaten before. I was now inches from it's body. I unwrapped the chains from it's hands and legs. He growled again and stood up. He walked towards me with his teeth bared. I raised my hands up and he stopped. I held my breath and walked forward. "Easy now." I mumbled under my breath. My hand connected with it's scaly skin. I felt it's hot breath on my face as I looked up. I looked towards Merida. "Not bad eh?" I asked raising my eyebrows. She rolled her eyes but I could tell she was impressed. I walked over to her and looked at her face. It was still darkened from her cloak but I could see her bright blue eyes. "Merida-" "Shh!" I was taken aback "Did you just shush me?" "SHH!" she held a finger to my lips before pointing to a figure moving in the dark.
The figure moved quickly and stopped in front of a worker. He pulled back his hood to reveal blond hair. "Is that Steve Rogers?" I asked in a whisper. "I think so." Captain full-of-himself seemed to of bribed the worker and was now walking over to us. "Merida hurry! Get in here." She jumped onto the platform and tried to squeeze through the bars. "I can't my boobs are in the way." "Try to squish them in!" She quickly fumbled but managed to squeeze through the bars. I grabbed her hand and ran behind the dragon. He guarded us from sight but gave us an opening to see through. I crouched low to the floor and watched as the worker and Steve approached.
"So this is our first task?" He asked. The worker nodded. "I don't know much but I heard they're for the games. It has something to do with them protectin' a golden egg." Protecting a golden egg? I glanced at Merida before looking back towards them. "Are you sure that's all you know?" the worker nodded. "Now if you excuse me, I need to get back to work." The worker walked away but Steve stayed examining the dragon. "You are one ugly thing." Rude. "I think I might need help from that little geek... what's his name? ... right Hiccup. I need the pipsqueak to train me in the art of dragons. If he doesn't help me I'm going to have to get on that girl, Astrid's good side." that scumbag! there's no way in hell I'm helping him.
A few men shouted in the distance and Steve pulled up his hood and ran back towards the school. "That Dinkleberry!" Yelled Merida tugging at her hair. "How did he know?! Grr! I just want to punch his pretty face!" I raised my eyebrow at her and she rolled her eyes. "Let's just go back..."
~
We walked slowly back to the castle. It was dawn by the time we got there. We walked into the great hall for breakfast to find everyone sitting at the Ravenclaw Table. Punzie jumped up when she saw us and came running forward. "Something's happened." I looked at her confused. "Somebody got caught last night... A competitor. They are being punished... I don't know how... But the games have been moved to this Saturday." That's in three days!! Merida's eyes widened. "Why would they move the date?" she shrugged "The headmistress said it was hard to contain them for so long. I don't know what she meant by it." Makes sense. I looked at Merida. "It's okay I can help you." I wrapped my arm around her back and walked her to the table. I made eye contact with Jack. I tilted my head to the right motioning him to follow. I stood from the table and he followed me without hesitation.
"What's up?" he asked with his hands in his pockets. I inhaled and swallow before speaking "Merida and I found out what the first task is..." Jack's eyes widened. "Were you the ones who got caught?" I shook my head. "You have to fight a dragon and retrieve a golden egg." His face paled which is rare for him because he's already pale. "I-I have to f-fight a d-dragon?!" "Shh not so loud. Jack don't worry; I'm going to help You and Merida train." His eyebrow raised. "You would do that?" I patted his shoulder. "Of course I would. I'll meet you in the stables after school tonight." He nodded and we both headed back to the table.
I sat down beside Merida and whispered in her ear "Stables after school." She nodded and continued to eat her breakfast. I only have 3 days to teach them what I have learned about dragons.
Jack's POV
After classes Merida and I headed to the stables where Hiccup told us to meet him. But not to my surprise everyone was there to watch us. And by everyone I mean everyone. Elsa caught my eye. Her hair was down again today and she was smiling at something Punzie said. She looked towards me and our eyes met. Her smile grew and she gave me a little wave. I returned the wave and couldn't help but smile.
"Hey." I said when I nudged her shoulder. "Hey." she nudged my shoulder back. "Alright let's get started." said Hiccup clapping his hands together. Toothless walked up behind him and nudged his back. "Alright first things first dragons are not as vicious as the seem. They only care about survival. They act on instinct." He rubbed Toothless' head. "Dragons are very good pets in my opinion. I'll just teach you some of my tricks. One; every dragon has a soft spot." He rubbed underneath Toothless' chin and the dragon purred and flipped over and Hiccup scratched his belly. He chuckled before looking back at us. "I also... If you hand me that bag..." Merida handed him the bag and Hiccup opened it "This right here is like cat nip to dragons." He held the grasslike substance over Toothless' nose. He flipped over and started wagging his tail. His pupils were huge! "This weed here makes them very playful..." He pulled out a pointer and Toothless chased after it. Hiccup chuckled to himself softly. "Now this is very important. A dragon's skin is mostly fireproof but they aren't so fireproof on the inside. That saved me from a queen dragon a few years ago." Hiccup then walked past us and into the woods, stopped and motioned us to follow. We were all hesitant but ended up following.
We walked into an open field before Hiccup stopped. He held up his hand for us to stop. Suddenly a wild dragon appeared. It was smaller then Toothless but probably just as deadly. "This right here is a wild dragon. Toothless and I caught her this morning. She is still very jumpy because..." he pulled out an egg from his pack back. The wild dragon went crazy and tried to get to it but thanks to Hiccup's chains, it wasn't going anywhere. He placed the egg on a rock nearby. "Now once I let her loose she is going to try and protect it. Your job is to get it." He stepped away and motioned for everyone else to back up. "Whoever gets it first will earn a prize." Merida rubbed her hands together and got ready to run. "GO!" Merida ran towards the dragon but I stayed in one place. Oh crap we're going!
Merida tried to get around the dragon but it flung her to the ground. I walked slowly with my hands up. Merida got up and ran towards the Dragon once again thinking that it's focus was on me but it shifted it's attention to her. Merida was hit by the dragons tail and fell to the ground. She clutched her arm and tried to stand. She turned to me once again and I held my hands up. She sniffed me and let me touch her nose. What do I do now? Oh I know! I slid my hands underneath her chin and scratched. Just like Hiccup said, she flipped onto her back and purred loudly. I smiled to myself and scratched her belly. But when I turned back Merida had the egg in her hands. "Snooze you lose, Jack." I rolled my eyes because I didn't care. I looked back at Hiccup as he walked towards me.
"Merida won the challenge but you won the game." he whispered before walking to Merida. Elsa came up beside me. "I think that you actually won that." she said flipping her hair into her left shoulder. I nodded "Hiccup was right they really love that chin scratch. The only problem is that this dragon has a chin the size of my hand. The dragons we are against are like 20 times bigger, they're more aggressive and they're alpha's." She looked at me. "True, but your smart Jack, you'll figure something out. Now let's go get dinner I'm starving."
Elsa's POV
"Hey." Jack waved his hand in front of my face. We were sitting at the Ravenclaw table eating dinner talking but I got thinking and zoned out. "Hey sorry, just deep in thought." "What were you thinking about?" I swallowed and whispered so the people around us wouldn't hear. "Remember when I told you I injured the man?" He nodded. "Well the Headmistress keeps grabbing her side as if she's hurt." His eyebrows furrowed. "But the man is a man." "We don't know that for sure. She could of modified her voice or shape with a polyjuice potion." He nodded. "But why would the headmistress.... The headmistress has been alive for a long time. She fought with our parents. Remember the photo? She was apart in the order of the Phoenix. I think she might of gotten hurt from trying to protect us." I recalled the memory. The headmistress was there. She had no children but she was there the night we were connected.
"You're right. sorry for jumping to conclusions..." Jack shook his head and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear. "Elsa you don't need to apologize because your idea means that the headmistress might know something." My eye widened. "You're right! But how do we ask her? She's not really the nicest person in the world." "I'll think of something. Lets get out of here." I nodded and stood from the table with him.
He walked me to my House and followed me inside. I yawned and rubbed my eyes. Because of the stupid nightmares I haven't been able to get a good night sleep in what feels like forever. I could also tell how tired Jack was from the circles under his eyes. I grabbed his hand a pulled him into a hug. He wrapped his arms around me. "Are you okay?" he asked. I nodded into his chest. "Just tired." "Me too." My eyes started to get heavy just standing in his arms. He noticed and walked me to my bed. He laid me down and was about to leave. "Stay." I managed to say. He nodded and came back.
I moved over and patted on the bed. He blushed but didn't refuse. I turned over and he turned to so we were spooning. It felt nice and comfy. My eyes got even more heavy and I let sleep take me.
Merida's POV
I was walking back to my room with Hiccup. We were holding hands and he was giving me more tips on dragons. When we arrived he was about to leave but I grabbed his sleeve. I looked around the Gryffindor house to find that no one was here. Probably because we left dinner early. He looked at me wondering why I had stopped him. "You still owe me my reward." I said very confident and cocky. He got nervous as I pulled him into the room. I shut the door behind him and guided him to the couch.
He sat down and looked at me. His hands were shaking. "Well what do you want?" He stuttered. I smirked and did something I wouldn't even expect myself to do. I sat on his lap. His eyes widened and I crushed my lips to his. The kiss was very passionate and really turned me on. I started to grind against him. He moaned into the kiss and his hands started to travelled under my shirt.
"HICCUP?" I pulled back from the kiss to see Astrid standing in the door way of the girls room. Hiccup blushed and I slid of him. He stood up and rubbed the back of his neck. Then he got angry "What? She's my girlfriend. Last time I checked your dating someone else." Astrid looked down. He called me his girlfriend! I smiled to myself before grabbing Hiccup's hand and leading him to the door. He stood in the doorway. "We aren't done here." I whispered before placing a kiss on his lips. "I hope not." He smiled and pushed his hands in his pockets before walking away.
I turned back towards Astrid. "Astrid I'm sorry." She had tears running down her face. "I never did anything like that with Hiccup." I blushed "I always thought he wasn't in to that kind of stuff." I raised my eyebrow. "Astrid he's a teenage boy of course he is. He's just shy." "He didn't seem shy there." She shook her head. "I was the one who broke up with him." She took in a breath before turning to walk away.
"Wait Astrid..." She turned to face me once again. "You know Steve Rogers?" She nodded "He's going to try and charm you so you help him train." She raised an eyebrow. "The first task is with dragons. If Hiccup doesn't help him he's going to come to you." She nodded "There's no way I'm helping that slim ball. I want you to win." She winked before walking into the girls dormitory. Thank goodness.
I walked back to the couch and laid down. This day has been interesting. I chuckled to myself softly as my eyes got droopy.
