5. One o'clock

Two days in a row, I left my desk, waited outside for fifteen minutes only to understand that Jayden wouldn't come

As I would stand outside, waiting for Jayden, I stare far into distance. The only sound that surrounds my ears is the movement of the wind. Swirling around my ears, I block everything else.

My mind wanders to Jayden. How clueless could I be. Why did it feel like a large chunk of me was missing? This small spec of time I have known Jayden, we created something special, a bond that I couldn't describe in words.

After the second day of Jayden not arriving, I made the brave decision to walk up to his place of work. I was stumped, there was no way I could enter the bank and ask for him. I stood outside, focusing on each individual inside, none of them were him.

On the third day, I decided to stay in the office for my lunch break. This was alien to me. I needed my fix of coffee, but it wasn't the same without Jayden.

A connection was made between the coffee and Jayden. It wasn't right to have it without him.

During my break, I lean back on my office chair, my eyes shoot around the office. Observing everyone get on with their daily life, laughing and chatting away, was not sitting well with me. Why did I feel so low, yet everyone was carrying on without a care in the world.

I was powerless, all I could do was carry on, with the idea of never seeing Jayden again.

***

It was the start of a new week. Throughout the whole weekend all I could think about was Jayden. I didn't want him to swimming around in my mind, but he did.

There was no way of contacting him. We had enjoyed each other presence, we didn't establish exchanging each other's number.

Maybe things would have been different, if I had agreed to see him outside of work. Why did I panic? Why is he in my head? So many questions, yet so little space in this head of mine.

I extend my arms far to the side, exhaling all the energy out. Turning my head around, I notice a grey hue evident outside. The trees were subtly dancing. It is cold, I gathered that by just focusing on the outside world.

My stomach cries out for some food, but not as much as it cried out for a hazelnut latte. Thinking of the warm, velvety drink, my mind captures the snug feeling of the cup that latches within my hand. The heat of the drink, warming me up like its a personal mini heater.

Darting my eyes towards the clock, it had just gone past one. Abruptly I stand up, I needed my fix of coffee and if it means having it without Jayden, then so be it.

I swish my coat around, securely fastening it, picking up my bag I hesitantly move my feet towards the exit. It won't be the same, I know it, but I am craving it so badly. What am I exactly craving? The coffee or Jayden?

I push these thoughts to the side and make my way to the exit. As I get the first feel of the outside, a shudder runs down the back of me. I fold my arms to trap in some form of heat.

My head raises from the ground and I'm suddenly brought to a stop, as my eyes were not allowing me to comprehend what I was seeing.

The ever so familiar face of Jayden was standing right in front of me. Seeing him again reminded me of the tingly sensation I had in my stomach. His bright smile welcomes me, the smoothness of his pupils captures my gaze, for a moment I get lost into the swirls of his eyes.

"Alina!" He exclaims.

I take in the deep mellow sound of his voice. My ears were dancing by just listing to his voice again. All I could do was run towards him. Once I was in front of him, in close proximity, without thinking my arms latch around his neck and I pull him for a hug.

Surprisingly this hug seemed normal as if my body was yearning for this hug.

"I thought you never wanted to see me again." I let out in a muffled voice, as I speak with my head buried in the softness of his over coat.

A confused grunt escapes his mouth, he backs away from the hug, his brows are furrow, he shakes his head whilst shrugging his shoulders.

"What? Why would you say that?" He questions.

"After what I did." I reply in almost a whisper. I bow my head towards the ground. Remembering my action, I grit my teeth and let out an exaggerated huff.

"The next day when I came out, I waiting for fifteen minutes and you never turned up. I did the same again, I even went to your work place, I could see you-"

Jayden let's out a deep, loud chuckle, stopping me from babbling.

"I am such an idiot, I forgot to tell you, I had a few days off from work. That day I realised I never told you and I couldn't as I didn't have your number." Jayden consoled.

My shoulders slump and I let a grand sigh escape my mouth. All the dread I had, hovering like a grey cloud above my head, was now gone. It felt like sunshine ruptured around me, creating a light and open space for me to breath.

"Jayden, I am so sorry, I should have never shut you out and ignored you. It's just that I've never had anyone ask me out before, my brain went into panic mode." I mumble.

Jayden lifts my hands with his. His essence is captured between us, suddenly the cold was pushed away and all I could feel was warm glow ignite within me.

"I'm sorry too. I just let it out without thinking. I've never really asked anyone out before." He consoled as he gazes into my pupils.

We both let out a chuckle in unison.

"Alina, I um, really like you."

As those words leave Jayden's mouth, my eyes shoot open, tingles danced their way around my body. Every nerve in my body wanted me to run, but I held myself strong, when things get serious, I can't always hide.

"Me too." I finally admit.

We sigh with relief. Right now, I had wished I had a camera to capture this moment. Somehow, I felt like Jayden melted all the icy coldness I had within me. Ever since meeting him I felt like someone new.

"How about we start again. Let's take each day slowly and enjoy our thirty minutes with each other." Jayden suggest breaking me out of my daydream as I focus back to him.

"I would really like that." I respond with a stretched smile on my face like a Cheshire Cat.

"So, hazelnut latte?" Jayden questions with a devious smirk.

"Hazelnut latte!" I reply mirroring his expression.

We both titter like school children. I link my arms into his and we make our way to the coffee shop.

This was the start of something new.

Who would have thought me meeting someone like Jayden was because I had picked up the wrong coffee order.

I subtly chuckle at how things turned out and all I could think was that:

It started with a coffee
