1. Hazelnut Latte
The bright screen of my computer stares at me, as I shift my focus on the clock, far across the room. The clock ticks away, five minutes left. Five minutes, till I can eject from out of my seat, running to get air.
The busy ambiance of this office, is always on the go. Chatter here and there, clicking here and there, the ringing of the phone here and there.
My eyes avert back to the computer screen. My mind draws blank. What was I doing, I thought to myself. Confusion runs through, a break is what I needed. Only three more minutes till I can leave this office.
I think to myself if it's worth doing anything in these three minutes. Nervously twitching my leg, I count on the time to go quick. To my unfortunate luck, the phone on my desk let's out a sharp ring, making me jump in my seat.
I close my eyes in frustration, I stare at the phone that's lit up, still ringing waiting for me to pick it up. Clenching my jaws, my hand slams on the phone and I abruptly pick it up. This was the last thing I needed, a phone call as I'm due to go on my break.
Five minutes later, I strike the phone down and, in a hurry back away from my desk. Putting on my black teddy bear coat, I make an exit, briefly telling my co-workers that I'll see them later.
As I finally step outside, the sharp cold air latches on my skin, making me shudder. Taking my phone out, I check the time, thirty minutes till I'm back in the suffocating office.
My mind targets the coffee shop I've known to love, I proceed to march towards it. Placing my hands in my pocket, trying to get some type of warmth, I lower my head town to avoid the piercing wind attacking my face.
When I finally enter the coffee shop, my shoulders relax as I'm welcomed by a warm ambience. The rich smell of coffee wiggles its way to my nose. Closing my eyes, I inhale to take in the deliciousness of the aroma.
Excitedly, I skip to join the queue. Much to my happiness, the coffee shop was quite calm, especially during the lunch time period.
"Hello, what can I get you?" The overly sweet young girl chirps behind the counter.
"A hazelnut latte please." I reply in an instant.
"And what size?" The young girl asks as she taps away on her screen.
"A regular." I respond as I eye up the barista hurrying around the back, my mouth suddenly starts salivating at the coffee being poured into the cup.
Paying for my drink, I walk over to the other side, anxiously waiting for my drink. Confusion enters my mind as my drink was made. The barista calls out my order and places it on the edge of the counter.
My brows furrow as I stare at my drink. This was the quickest I have ever received my drink. Shrugging my shoulders, I stride over to the drink picking it up. As my hand clasp around the cup, the hotness of the drink somehow connects to my heart as a warm feeling awakens me from my tired brain.
As I leave the coffee shop, I'm stopped by a voice that is projected towards me.
"Excuse me! That's my drink." A deep, low melodious voice blurts out.
I'm stopped in my tracks, turning around following the voice that caught my attention. I'm faced to the neck of this person, my first thought was, 'my goodness he is tall!'
My head inches slightly upwards to place a face to the voice. I'm welcomed by this alarming attractiveness that makes my brain stop thinking for a moment. His black hair neatly brushed back, with an ever so light strand falling at the side. Rounded brown eyes, reminding me of a deep river of chocolate. Stubble covering the majority of his cheeks, but an ever so small dimple on each side was evident. I shift my eyes to his hand that is pointed towards my drink. All I could think was how soft and strong they looked.
Dressed in a black topcoat, I noticed a grey suit, I made the assumption that he was also at work, maybe this was his time for a break as well.
"My drink?" He spoke again snapping me out of my stare.
"Excuse me?" I confusingly mumble.
A short snap sigh escapes his mouth as if he was getting frustrated. "That's my drink you're holding."
I subtly chuckle at his claim. "No, this is my drink, I ordered a hazelnut latte-"
"No, that's my order, I ordered a hazelnut latte and I was waiting for my drink, way before you." He snapped, cutting me off as I was about to finish what I was saying.
My mouth gapes open at the sudden change in his voice. The harshness overpowered his soothe low tone he spoke with earlier. Whoever this man was, he certainly was not making a great impression.
"A regular hazelnut latte!" The barista calls out. Ironic how my drink is now called out. I suddenly crashed with embarrassment.
"Well then," I awkwardly let out, "here have your drink."
I extend my arm towards him, placing the drink close to him, waiting for him to take it out of my hand. Instead, he walks over to the freshly made drink picking it up.
"You've held onto that drink for too long, keep it." He mischievously says with his lips curling in to a cheeky grin. Without another word he walks past, exiting out of the coffee shop.
My mouth is once again gapped open at his sudden change. My eyes follow him as he walks on the other side of the window. Just as he leaves my sight, he turns his head to me lifting his drink, which was supposedly mine, shooting me an ever so devious smile.
As he finally leaves, I'm left stricken at the exchange I just had at this coffee shop. I look at the hazelnut latte in my hand and I can't help but blush at the thought of this guy.
