It Should Have Been Me

Her Wedding Day

I'm here as promised in an all black tux. My mom was angry that I wore it. But this was her favorite tux on me. A small part of me is hoping she leaves with me in the middle of the ceremony.

As I sit in the back row of the wedding hall I see her walk down the aisle to the man who swooped in after I broke her heart. I plead with my eyes for her to look at me as she walks down the aisle, just to see me and come running for me. Not walk down the aisle to him.

The ceremony goes by quickly. I'm zeroed in on her. She's smiling, she's happy, without me.

The first dance is when I hid in the shadows. Watching her in her white gown. I was supposed to be the one holding her as we danced to our song.

When she had no one to dance with I swooped in. When she saw it was me, her arms wrapped around me. She looked so happy to see me. My angel was in my arms. I needed her. I just held her as we danced.

Her heart wasn't mine anymore. I didn't realize it till then when she shook her head and stared at me with her sad eyes. She backed off to find him. The one who had stolen her heart.

It should have been me at the altar.....
