Chapter Seven
-Beverly's PO.O.V-
I quietly made my way through the apartment and into my room. Slumping down onto my bed, I placed my backpack beside me and began emptying it. I took out one of my books and as I did something had hit the floor. I looked down at the object in confusion. A postcard? I reached down and picked it up. Knowing my dad could walk in at any moment I made my way into the the bathroom, locking the door behind me. I decided to take a seat in the bath tub for some odd reason and began reading the note on the back.
"Your hair is winter fire, January embers. My heart burns there too" I whispered to myself outloud. I felt a smile creep up on my face. For once in my life I felt loved, like I meant something to somebody. It was a great feeling. My smile grew once Bill's face appeared in my head. It had to have been him.
"Beverley!" I heard a female voice whisper. I looked over at the sink, considering that was where the voices were coming from. 'What in the world?' I thought to myself as the whispering continued.
"Help me, help me please?" I got up and slowly walked over to the sink.
"We all want to meet you!" I heard multiple voices whisper. "We all float down here!" I looked down the plug hole to see if I could see anything?
"Hello?" I asked. "Who are you?" I then began to hear different names call up to me. Them being most of the missing kids.
"We change!"
I unlocked the bathroom door and opened it. Stepping out, I began making my way slowly to the living room, trying not to wake my dad who had fallen asleep in front of the tv. I walked over and grabbed his tape measure before hurriedly walking back to the backroom.
Once I was back in the bathroom I placed the tape measure, so that it was level with the plug hole and began to expand it. I began pushing the tape measure further down the sink, seeing if there really was anyone down there or whether the voices were in fact just in my head. I heard a small giggle as the tape measure wouldn't go any further, no matter how hard I tried.
I let out a deep sigh and began pulling the tape measure back up the sink. My eyes widened at the sight of blood smeared over part of it. I pulled it out more, so that the end had come out, blood was still smeared but now there was hair wrapped around it. As I continued pulling, a string of hair covered in blood appeared. I looked at it in dismay. Suddenly the hair was wrapped tightly around my wrist. I began to panic and let out little screamed as more hair flew out of the sink and wrapped itself around me.
"Daddy help!" I screamed as I felt my face forcefully being pulled towards the plug hole by the clumps of hair. I was a few inches away from the plug hole when I noticed blood began to rise up. More blood began to bubble out of the sink. It was like a bomb full of blood had exploded. blood began to spray out of the whole, covering my face and the entire bathroom. I had managed to free myself. I tripped over my own two feet and began crawling away from the sink. I sat with my back to the wall, crying to myself after what had just happened. The blood stopped spraying out of the whole and my dad burst into the bathroom.
"What the hell is going on?" He asked looking down at me
"The sink!" I exclaimed as I met his gaze. "And the blood, it's-"
"What blood?" My breathing began to quicken, my eyes still wide but this time staring at him in shock. The blood was everywhere, the bathroom was decorated with blood how could he not see?
"The sink? You don't see it?" I asked him in disbelief. I watched as my father looked around the bathroom for any sort of truth to what I was saying. He shook his head and slowly walked over to him as I began to mumble nonsense, trying to get a sentence out. My dad crouched down in front of me.
"You worry me Bevvie" He whispered. "You worry me a lot"
"But don't you see?" He reached up and moved a strand of hair out of my face.
"Why did you do this to your hair?" He asked changing the subject. "It makes you look like a boy!"
I watched in confusion as he then stood up and walked out of the bathroom, leaving me surround by blood. I frantically looked around before bursting into tears.
-Bill's P.O.V-
I woke from my peaceful slumber as I felt something wet drip onto my head. I looked up to see there was a leak. I slowly climbed out of bed and looked through my house for a bucket. Once I had finally found one, I picked it up and turned to walk back towards my room. I heard a switch go off and turned to see the light had come on in Georgie's room. I put down the bucket and tip toed into his room. Only to find there was no one there.
I sighed and walked in, picking up a lego turtle he had made before he went missing and sat down on his bed. I began to silently sob as I looked around his room. I missed his voice, his hugs, his hair, everything. I missed having my little brother around, and regretting that I took him for granted. Each day I carried guilt, knowing I should've gone with him that dreadful day. If I did, he wouldn't be missing right now.
My head shot towards his doorway as I heard footsteps running away from his bedroom. I stood up, the lego turtle still in my hand, and curiously followed the sound of the footsteps, I spotted small muddy footprints leading down stairs. The footprints stopped at the entrance of the kitchen. I walked a little closer, my heart stopped beating for a split second as a young boy ran through the kitchen wearing a yellow raincoat. I dropped the lego turtle I was holding in my hand, it shattered into pieces on the floor.
"Georgie?" I whispered to myself. I walked into the kitchen, seeing that he had ran into the basement. I took a deep breath before following him. I slowly made my way down the stairs, every step I took a creak followed. I reached the second to last step, spotting Georgie hiding behind a huge shelf and the basement flooded.
"I lost it Billy, don't be mad" He innocently said referring to the paper boat I had made him.
"I-I-I'm not mad at you!" I told him. I couldn't believe it.
"It just floated off" He told me in a soft voice as he stepped out of his hiding place. "But Bill, if you come with me. You'll float too!"
"Georgie!" He smirked at me.
Georgie then began repeating the words 'You'll float too' over and over again. I watched in fear as his face began to change, it was as if acid had been poured over him. Georgie ended up looking like a zombie, the sight was horrible. Something beside him caught my eye, I quickly glanced over and saw a clown rising from the water. There was no way this was happening.
He finally stopped speaking and his whole body collapsed into the water and disappeared. I looked to where Georgie was once stood and I spotted the clown smiling at me. I gasped as the clown began to charge at me, rapidly shaking his head. I sprinted up the stairs before the clown could reach me and slammed the basement door shut behind me.
