Chapter Two//Getting There
I got home worn out and tired but it was more mental than physical. Today was a lot to take in, truthfully I had always wanted to be popular but I didn't want it to happen the way it did. I was trying really hard to focus on the bright side of things but now, within the privacy of the four walls of my room, I broke down in tears.
After crying for about an hour, I wiped my tears and just laid down on my bed looking at the ceiling. I had an image of the woman I wanted to be in my head. Beautiful, smart, perfect shape and popular with an active social life. I already had smart down, I just needed to work the rest out.
"Diamond! Get back here! How many times will I tell you to stop taking your shoes off and just dumping them anywhere in the house? Diamond!"
"Mom, I'm coming, I just really want to tell Lauretta something important that happened in school today!", I heard my sister say as she made her way to my room.
"What's up?", I said as she entered without knocking first.
"Billie and I are finally besties!", She said with so much excitement.
"That's nice", I replied with a chuckle, "so when's she coming over?"
"Saturday, she said her parents won't let her come during the week"
"That's nice, make sure your room's clean on Saturday."
"I will!", She said as she bounced out of my room.
She was really energetic and I was pretty sure Billie was the third best friend she'd had this year alone.
I decided to get up and start on my assignments. I didn't like to be behind on those.
.
I checked the time on my phone before rolling onto my bed and staring at the ceiling for the second time today.
It was exactly 9 pm. Everyone had gone to bed. We tend to go to bed early on weekdays in my family. My mom worked as a lecturer at the state university while my dad was an accountant working with an accounting firm so they were busy people.
My life was pretty boring in my opinion, I had no social life whatsoever and I didn't really like that.
My life was scheduled to the letter and I never deviated from it because I didn't even have any reason to. I was getting tired of this life I was living.
Suddenly, as though struck by lightning, I stood up. Why not use that ability to organize and plan things to become exactly who I want to be?
I quickly stood up and got to work. I outlined a new schedule, a different one. I made the highlighted school time orange. Set a time for working out every day. Researched the best beauty products and prices. Made a shopping list.
I decided to go sign up for the dance class near my home, first thing tomorrow morning. Shop for new clothes. Start a diet.
By the time, I was done with the schedule, I was mentally exhausted but very pleased. If I follow this to the letter, I would see changes in a month. Thankfully, I am very good at following schedules.
I twirled around in my chair, excited about this new step. No more old Lauretta. It was time for a new Lauretta. With that thought, I went to sleep.
.
The next morning, I was up at 7 am. I went out for an hour's jog around the neighbourhood.
I really liked my neighbourhood, it was peaceful and beautiful. It was also very safe. To me, it was one of the safest neighbourhoods in the whole state.
I was back home by 8:05. I went straight to the kitchen and met my mom already there making breakfast.
"Morning mom", I said as I got around to making a healthy smoothie with a recipe I got online.
"Morning baby", my mom replied as she flipped the pancake in the pan, 'well someone's up early?"
"Yeah I went for a jog", I said while putting the cut and rinsed fruits in the blender.
Mom turned to me and raised an eyebrow, "I'm not against that but that's new"
"Yeah, I'm trying to form a new habit."
"That's nice", she managed to get out before I turned on the blender drowning out her voice.
When it was smooth enough for me, I poured it into a cup and headed upstairs to my room.
"Yeah, I'm happy about it too", I shouted back then cringed when I realised my dad and sister were still asleep.
.
After I had drank my smoothie and taken my bath, I got dressed to go to the dance studio I found on google. It was a bus trip from my house. I was planning to go to register there today and then resume maybe Monday or something. I was a bit paranoid since today was a Saturday but the website said the studio was open at weekends.
The main reason I wanted to go register for the class was that I loved to dance. Although, I also wanted to prove those girls wrong.
As I went downstairs, I met my dad eating breakfast while watching CNN.
"Hey, Dad. Good morning. ", I greeted.
"Morning, Lauretta. How are you? Where are you going? "
"I'm fine, Dad. I'm going to register at a dance studio not too far away."
"Oh. Okay. Anyways be back by noon. I want to take you to the golfing centre today. Remember?"
"Oh yeah. I'll be back on time. It's just to register.",
"Okay, bye".
"Bye", I said with a wave as I walked out the door.
.
I smiled to myself as I entered the house. I met the dance coach and she was really nice. She helped me work out the classes around my schedule and explained the classes I'll be having as a beginner.
The price was also under my budget which made me really happy. I felt really achieved today.
The best thing about it all was that there was a fitness program which I had to pay a little extra for but was worth it and still below budget. I was just really happy and feeling fulfilled. I just needed to be consistent and I'll be where I wanted to be in no time.
"Lauretta!", my dad called, cutting into my thoughts.
"Yes, dad", I replied.
"Go get ready. We're leaving in an hour".
"Ohh okay. I almost forgot. ", I said as I ran upstairs to my room.
A/n: a bit uneventful but we'll get there. Stick with me🥺❤️
